Speeduino based ECU kit purchased. Do you know if there is anything different to do for automatic gearbox?
@CashedOutCars4 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure what’d be different! It’d assume the process shouldn’t be too different. I believe autos came with a slightly different cam setup so your tune may end up a bit different but you’d have to work on that once you get the kit anyway. Good luck!

I have a few notes I'd like to add if someone is interested? I recommend as much OEM used as you can find- turbos as well. If you find one at the right size an OEM and a rebuild kit will work fine. I would say the same for intercooler. If you have to do custom anyways, get a good OEM unit if you can find one. Also, do research on water to air. It's much easier to route some coolant hose to a heat exchanger than it is 2" pipe. Some cars that have cheap H/E are cobras Mercedes products etc. Prius water pumps are adequate for moving the coolant. Great video thanks!
@CashedOutCars3 жыл бұрын
I agree with trying to go OEM when possible, it'll often be cheaper and easier. With Miatas, MazdaSpeed setups require modification to get them to work on 1.8s and don't fit 1.6Ls. I did want to source an OEM Saab or Volvo turbo, but i couldn't find one since the small, T3 flange ones are getting tough to find. Air to water inter coolers certainly can be a good choice for a lot of setups. Thanks for stopping by!

THANK YOU BRO!!!!! you a real one! one day ima get a NA and i wanted to make it fun for my first car. later down the line ima get a sti but it looks way too complicated for me to start on so i thought i would get a miata. i know some things about how some parts of the engine works and what their for so basically im a beginner. i know some names of parts like radiator, down pipe, intake, etc but i dont know how exactly they work. ive watched so many videos on engines and how to build them but they probably only told me like 20% of the information i need to know to just build it, and not explain what they do. one day ima probably go to college for me to become a mechanic but damn this video pretty much showed me basically 100% of what needs to be done and 50% of how the parts work. i was so excited when you said you have more videos of the whole process and explaining it in more detail because these other youtubers hardly do it. Great video, overall a through explanation of how to low budget boost a Miata. I would like to add that BOV’s are crucial to keeping lower priced eBay turbos alive, even just starting out with a cheap eBay HKS knockoff. It may save the novice builder some instant headaches because contrary to popular belief, “tuning out” compressor surge doesn’t elevate the mechanical load the turbo is seeing. That’s probably one of the biggest reasons eBay turbos fail, the parts aren’t big money for a reason. Though, I have with messed first hand some pretty decent abuse on my Maxpeedingrods turbo. And she’s still good boost right meow.

$1776-4090 is cheap?! Maybe I should start putting together kits. Civics are also really popular to turbo because like Miatas they’re simple and cheap enough to work on! Good luck if you go for it!

For a total beginner, would you recommend doing this?
@CashedOutCars3 жыл бұрын
For a total beginner that hasn't worked on a car at all, honestly, probably not. I'd recommend getting a feel for doing basic maintenance first, then some basic modifications. If you're comfortable with that, and do your research, then you can jump on a project like this!

Great video - just didn't show the important part of where the oil supply comes from...

This car had a high pressure oil port in the block, otherwise sandwich plate off the oil filter is common

I’m doing an NB2 swap into my NA6, not too sure if I wanna go turbo yet or not, my NA6 used to be turbo’d but then cyl #4 decided to retire early...
@CashedOutCars3 жыл бұрын
That'll be a sweet swap. Sounds like a cooling problem, that's what goes when they overheat. Good luck on your swap!

@@CashedOutCars just saw your reply! Thanks, and slowly but surely she’s getting done, I have her basically stripped down to a shell at this point and I’m trying to touch every single nut and bolt possible to put everything new or aftermarket

hi it is a good idea to make a Coolant Reroute on the engine especially when the turbo is mounted

Did you use an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to ramp up fuel pressure with boost pressure? Or is the boost low enough that it does not cause a problem with factory fuel pressures?
@CashedOutCars3 жыл бұрын
No, stock fuel pressure with 420cc injectors, almost twice what a stock 1.6 is, now at 14psi. If you use a rising rate pressure regulator with a standalone ECU you’re going to have a bad time tuning it. Those regulators are really for people who don’t want to run a proper ECU
@timjs10183 жыл бұрын
@@CashedOutCars Interesting. So tuning is still okay at 14 psi even with reduced fuel pressure? What I mean is, if stock fuel pressure is say, 40 psi.. the injectors would have an effective pressure of only 26psi when spraying into a 14psi environment. No issues there I guess? Thanks for the information.

@@CashedOutCars hey man, sorry if I missed it in the video but where did you find an inexpensive cast iron manifold? Ebay seems to be full of the shitty tubular ones.

Quick question if I was to do this would I buy the stand alone and injectors first and install them before the turbo or would I have to install the turbo first?

Hey Cash! Hows the Chinese T04e holding up? When do you hit full boost RPM wise? Looking at going the same way with my 1.8L and this looks like a great option
@CashedOutCars2 жыл бұрын
So far so good on the turbo’s reliability! It spools slower than I’d like, especially being a 1.6. Full boost (14 PSI now) from a lower RPM pull is around 3800 RPM. I do have electronic boost control set up. With a 1.8 you can easily get a cheaper, T2 flange manifold which should be better suited for quick spool
@andrewatkins14382 жыл бұрын
@@CashedOutCars yeah I have electronic boost control and a forged bottom end and I'm shooting for 300-350whp so was going to go a bigger frame turbo than T25. Hoping this fits the bill 😊
