I run all my 1080p exports from the Insta 360 through Topaz AI. Once upscaled to 4k with a bit of deblocking, it truly looks amazing. One day when these 360 cameras are 12k and have a much higher bit rate then that won't be necessary but for now, Insta 360 paired with Topaz is a match made in heaven.

Thanks very much for this. Great video! I’ve been thinking about buying one of these cameras and using it in lieu of my GoPro 10 Hero but it looks like you need to edit twice correct? So it needs to be edited once with the app and then once you have a file created, you can put it in or load it into iMovie, which is the program I use is this correct? Great video!

Great video, just like you mentioned, I've been using Gopro for a long time. This insta 360 is great but is it easy to use like the Gopro while riding, in the sense that Gopro has a single button to operate when fixed to the helmet to turn on/off recording. Does the insta 360 have a similar feature?

I've had one for a week - the image quality is really not there yet IMO. I like the flexibility though and it'd be good for showing scenery on roadtrips etc, but it's noisy AF in anything approaching low light. When they get a new sensor it might be worth investigating...

I am into upgrading my old DJI Osmo Action. I'm also insterested in 360 (I have a VR headset which is fun to watch stuff back on). Does it lack features when used as single lens? (apart from smaller resolution) Do I get more fisheye in single lens? I also find it less mountable compared to action cams, however I have to see that the option are endless.

Many motovlogs use the GoPro's for their travels and swap out video cards as they go along. You can get quite a bit of recording before having to change cards. Hw long can you record on the 360?

I like what the X2 and X3 do but the form factor is less than ideal for mounting. It’s too tall compared to the One RS. I’ve been using both and the One RS gets used weekly while my X2 sits in the case. The reality is I use the minute GO2 more than any other action camera.

The X3 can be used while plugged into the power. They recommend you drop the battery out while doing so to avoid overheating.

Thanks for the review, I think most of us have suffered from GoPros ability to do something weird causing a loss of footage and a ruined video. How have you found the Insta in that respect, has it proved to be more stable or has it let you down in any similar ways ?

My Insta360 X2 has frozen and lost footage. My GoPros have frozen, but not while out recording.... so far. Welcome to the world of software. It's gonna crash sooner or later. The 360 cameras are cool, but the lower resolution compared to GoPro 4k video is noticeable, so I can't use them as my primary camera with the motovlogging I do.

After I got hit on my bike in August, I wanted a way to film my rides - if for no other reason than for insurance purposes should I be involved in another accident. After a few months of deliberating, I decided on the Insta 360 X3 because of the 360 view. I was considering a front/rear hardwired camera setup, a GoPro, and a DJI action cam. I bought it during their Black Friday sale and it’s snowed a few times since so unfortunately I have yet to actually test it on a ride, but I’m looking forward to playing around with it.

Nothing can equal a 360 cam as a dashcam. I had a 2 camera setup on my bike and even that leaves both sides of the bike uncovered. There's a company called 3BR Powersports that make a hard-wire kit for the X2 so you can power it externally while keeping the water resistance. It's the perfect solution for a bike. Now if I have an incident, I know it'll be captured on video no matter where it comes from.

Does the GPS work in single lens mode? I tried to overlay GPS data via a GPS remote on a single lens mode and it didn't have any GPS data. If you want the flexibility of "shoot first frame later" nothing beats the Insta 360 X3. But if you want single lens sophistication and telemetry data, GoPro Hero 11 has got you covered.

We are a long time user of two insta 360 cameras (The X2) which we did buy. Great reliable cameras. They capture some awesome shots but there are some down sides you didn't mention: Those convex double lenses are very easy to damage, never lay the camera flat on a hard surface without the lense guard fitted. If you film long sections in 360 then the editing is very time consuming and tedious. Post much footage of the view turning or unnaturally spinning around and your audience will feel nauseous and thumb your vid down. Love your channel, but really this is stuff folks need to know before buying.

Hi Richard and Carol Thanks for making prospective buyers aware of some very valid issues regarding the vulnerability and dexterity of these cameras. " We paid for ours" is another point, I understand Insta wish to promote their products to large audiences, whilst choosing large channels to do these promotions and paying them on top however always results in a rather prejudiced review. I'm sure gifting cameras to the likes of you or I would attract almost as large an audience given it's something people are searching for. They would then see their product being tested and used in more real world circumstances and also how creative their product can be without using head spinning trick shots. It would also improve product development by seeing shortfalls and addressing them. Also sticking them on selfie sticks all around the bike firstly produces some rather fish eyed views but most importantly the more you extend the selfie stick the more impossible it becomes to control it's movement due to catching wind at speed. This could easily result in £500 worth of camera bouncing on the road.

@Grey Wolf We've made a conscious decision not to take free stuff to review. Same as not pursuing manufacturers for test bikes. There will always be an obligation to put a positive spin on the bike or product if you do take it. We do take the ad sense money as Google would still play the ads over our vids and just pocket the lot. Difficult area for big KZbin channels and influencers that want to make a full-time income. In my opinion the best reviews on KZbin are by owners of products or motorcycles. Owners who've used their own hard earned cash. Still love what Moto Bob does but sometimes only listing the positive things in a review just isn't a proper review..... its a promotion.

IMO audio is unusable on any action cam cos they’re always out in the wind, despite whatever wind-cancelling tech they claim to have. I always use a tascam sound recorder with an external mic and sync afterwards in the edit

@@motobob yes thats my experience as well. But it adds to the workload .. more units to bring with you and to keep charged. GoPro, DJI Action and the Insta 360 One X2/3 have adapters for external mics. With a mic hidden behind the windscreen its possible to pick up engine sound as many prefer to hear. So I think that a review of a action cam..used for motorcycle video should dig into that challenge too. Another thing with this camere is that the neccesary reframing of the video makes the resolutin far away from 4K ;-) Other wise a very good review of you (as usual).

Question: Did you get any sort of document in the Motorcycle Mount box telling you what the limitations of the mount was? My camera came flying off the mount and got badly damaged on the weekend. I wrote to Insta360 and they showed me a web page that explains that you should not go over 80km/h with the camera mounted when on the road and not more than 40km/h offroad. I did not remember seeing these recommendations so I went and looked in the mount and camera boxes I have but did not find anything so I was wondering if you did find any instructions to this effect in your boxes.

Did you use the invisible stick with the mount? I use a sidemirror ram ball mount similar to the official moto mount connected directly to the camera. I have taken it up to 280kmh multiple times and it still held. I wouldn't go that fast if I put the monopod and extend it. The most is I have a rigid carbon fibre stick about 30cm that I used and those I have tested up to 180 kmh

Hard to get any good exhaust noise with an action cam style thing. Maybe if you use the mic adapter and then hide an external mic somewhere under the seat? Some people also cut a hole in a sponge and put the mic in there to complete kill any wind noise

The real pain in the a** is the file transfer that is mandatory done by wireless. I can't understand why you can't just plug the camera to a phone or a tablet that has the Insta360 app running. I took for EVER to upload the files through wireless, and that alone is a deal breaker in the workflow. I have not 30 minutes to lose with the app running to retrieve a 1 GB file. Not talking about heavier files... Once they fix that, it becomes indeed a very good camera system.

Yeah, I don't quite get the work flow. I was downloading the files onto my M1 MacBook Air and then editing the files using the desktop software, but then I discovered that the mobile app has more features. But, like you said, you have to rely on wireless. It takes so long I have to have my iPad Pro and the camera plugged into an outlet while the transfer is occurring.

I use mine to record audio. The adapter plugs into where you charge and once that waterproof door is removed the camera isn't waterproof. Better to record audio separately if riding in the rain and link them back together in the edit.
