What if my dining table is 8' x 37" wide. Don't I have to choose a linear chandelier to or a table that long?? I am really having a tough time finding a nice linear light as the selection is limited.

These are just guidelines. I don't think that you have to get a chandelier that is exactly consistent with your table, it's about balancing out the size of your table with the fixture.
