I have a few different things for getting different flavors of this. Always on is a Petty John PreDrive. It can also take a balanced line source in, and switch between that and instrument input, so I split my signal in front of this so that I have a direct in to my interface that could be recorded and then reamped/reprocessed from the PreDrive. I will also use the CB Condor for drive/lift and eq, but my favorite one does a mix of all three things in one pedal, and that is the Dreadbox Kinematic. It can be an envelope filter pedal, but can also be put into compression mode where the envelope sensitivity control, controls the compression ratio. With the drive set relatively low adding the lift, the compression and the filter most of the way open, but with a bit of a resonant peak dialed in at the upper range of the eq, it has a really lovely character. I want to know though, what is the reverb your using in these clips?

Very cool! I'm going to have to check out the Dreadbox, I just connected with the Pettyjohn crew not too long ago, their stuff seems super special! I'm using the Stryfecta at the moment, so the reverb you're hearing is a big cloud setting, which I think gets the point across in terms of dead center ambient sounds haha Full board is here in case you're curious: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIrKh5h9i6dmgdk

The Euna sounds amazing!, it magically clears up everything, Are there any other more affordable clones or similar pedals?
@signalpath17 күн бұрын
There are a few others that folks have mentioned elsewhere in the comments, but nothing that does exactly the same thing that I've personally used. A good balanced overdrive pedal can go a long way for those kinds of things too imo

Version 2 of the King of Tone does this great. Unfortunately it’s no longer in production

I've always been curious about the older versions of the KOT, couldn't imagine spending today's prices on one though!

I was a sceptic when it came to the Euna.. I got one though and haven't been able to get it off my board. Are there other pedals that do this?

I’m wondering this as well. I have the CB Clean + Empress compressor mkii for compression and CB Condor Hifi for EQ. Any idea if I can have one of those provide the lift that is referred to? I think my clean tone is great, just wondering if there is extra some greatness i’m missing out on.
@13aphomet19 күн бұрын
@Laurenslamberts a pedal I used to have that kinda "felt" like the Euna was the Taurus Servo. It was pretty good. There's a mk2 version (that seems hard to find) that has way more options but I eventually broke down and bought the Euna.
@Laurenslamberts19 күн бұрын
@@13aphometinteresting. Haven’t heard of the brand Taurus yet. I notice they’re from Poland and have the pedal for sale, and price is less than half the EUNA for me in the Netherlands. Unfortunately I can only find a single comparison blogpost, and they were a little less happy about the Servo’s build quality. I really like my pedals to last forever, so that might be a dealbreaker for me. Maybe I’ll try a EUNA, see if it sprinkles the magic for me.

@Laurenslamberts Sounds like an insane setup! I haven't used any of the pedals you referred to specifically, but where I would look for that lift is probably from the Condor. If you're happy with your setup that's all that matters! I really dig what the EUNA is doing for me, but I think the condor is a different flavor of that same kind of preamp lift feel Ultimately I'm just looking for those 3 things in my clean tone, but many devices can offer multiple stages at once, for instance, the JHS Colour Box is a great lifting preamp, but also has a killer shaping EQ as well. That + a compressor is also a killer combo.

Really enjoyed this video - really great sounds. I am curious to know if the 29 euna sound could be achieved with EQ. I mean it sound a bit like everything is dull before that and then the euna really brings in clarity but interested in the difference between that and how close you could get that clarity just with EQ. Also what is the reverb/delay? I must have missed what you were using - love that overall cleanish sound with everything on!

So part of why I kept the different "steps" I was describing as general as possible is because I think that many things are capable of that "lift" that I was describing. For me the value of the EUNA is borrowing Jesse's expertise in tuning those filters to be as musical and easy to use as possible, though with the right inspiration and tools I definitely think you could achieve a similar result with a variety of approaches! Years ago I used to use a timmy overdrive for a very similar purpose. I'm using the Stryfecta for my ambience in this one! The full board overview is here in case you're curious! : kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIrKh5h9i6dmgdk

I really like how with this method you can dial in your tone before recording. It might seem obvious, but it makes a lot of sense doing upfront what many home producers do afterwards in post-production. Even when you’re just playing rather than recording, it’s great to have your pedals always on and ready to shape your sound. I also noticed a Red Panda and a Chase Bliss pedal in the corner. Your reverb, delay, and chorus sounded especially lush-do you mind sharing which pedals you were using?

That was kind of my whole thought with this video, how does setting up a clean tone that you can later modify help save work in the long run! I actually just posted a full overview of the board here:kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIrKh5h9i6dmgdk I'm using the stryfecta for all the ambience and modulation in this video though

Two questions. Is it pointless running Euna without Oamp? And does Euna replace an input buffer?

I don't think the Luna does anything but EQ. "Lift" is also interesting. Is it the wind that blows under the emperors new clothes?
@signalpath19 күн бұрын
Since we want to talk about it. Did you know that EQ can go up *as well as* down? Wow! It’s almost as if increasing the level of a certain set of frequencies and not others can take a tone that lacks energy and “”””””””lift””””””” it! At the end of the day, not for you? Then hey! You saved some money and this video did exactly what it was intended to: provide another data point for people to inform their decisions with.
@onenotesolo25619 күн бұрын
@ramstein47 excellent sceptical analogy - I like the thought behind it! As for the Euna: buffer + some sensible EQ options to suit different guitars and amps. You can get most of the impact from a good EQ pedal and a *good* buffer, plus a touch of comp. The Euna does it in one box with quick EQ tweaks, which is handy, thereby freeing up the other pedals to do other things. Most people I’ve spoken to who try the Euna tend to leave it on the board if they have space - it’s not essential, but it’s one of those ‘where did the hi fi-ness go when you turn it off’ pedals. Edit: I have the Euna and OAMP and a couple of his other boxes. The Euna and FLWR get the most board time.
