I’m new at this. So… when people talk about “control paddles” or interested in “control over power” does control have to do with the amount of texture on the face of the paddle? Texture makes it easier to get top spin or slice? My paddle was $30 from Walmart and it works but I am getting into this sport. This Selkirk Air Control Luxx could be good for me? Top spin is my favorite thing.

Is it possible to do all the topspin dinks with the forearm instead of the wrist? Or the the wrist produce greater effect?

A buddy of mine let me try out the selkirk luxx and holy.. the control on that paddle is amazing. I use the Warrior Edge currently which already has a lot of control on it, but the selkirk luxx is amazing.. Great videos as always! If I buy the luxx i'll be sure to use your code!

Hey Austin, when you are dinking, are you taking the paddle to the correct spot with your shoulder or only your forearm and wrist? Because when I take the paddle back with my whole arm, I tend to create a backswing. However when I take it back with my forearm and wrist there is no backswing? I’m confused. Should I be able to have a small backswing on my dinks or not?
@pickleballplaybook5 ай бұрын
I do not think about it at all. All you have to focus on is making contact out in front and say bounce when the ball bounces and hit when you make contact. Everything else will take care of itself! Hope that helps
@Adi0-e8v6 ай бұрын
Question, on dinks and volleys, how do you get back to your ready position fluidly? Do you just use your shoulder to smoothly get back or use your forearm? Very stupid question I’m sure but I’m just curious. Thanks!

I do not think about it. All I think is paddle out in front. Does that make sense? Less is more in pickleball

One question, with the flat push dinks, is your wrist cocked up or cocked down? I notice your wrist is cocked down. When hitting flat dinks consistently, is it better to have your wrist cocked down? Thanks!

Cocked up 👍

@@pickleballplaybook when I cock my wrist up for flat backhand dinks, I’m never consistent though. I know practice is important, but I have been practicing. What else do I need to look out for?

Love the tips. How do you avoid telegraphing the 1-hand backhand top spin dink when you cross over (so hitting off your dominant leg)? Maybe if they cheat out wide you hit middle instead?
@pickleballplaybook Жыл бұрын
Exactly! You do a backhand dink roll up the middle instead. Typically though, you want to project that you’re rolling up the middle then hit it out wide.
@Adi0-e8v5 ай бұрын
On the forehand slice dink you say to move the elbow in a bit. Does this also apply to both regular forehand and backhand slices? Because i never move my elbow in the way you show for slice dinks! Please enlighten me.
@pickleballplaybook5 ай бұрын
Yes it bends and unbends as you hit it from the baseline! Does that make sense
@Adi0-e8v5 ай бұрын
@pickleballplaybook forearm only or shoulder? Also are there other ways to slice dink or is this the only one?
@kevinespina32896 ай бұрын
when you explained the forehand backspin dink, you mentioned that you would "shave" witha L shape. Is it basically the same technique but reversed with your backand backspin dink? or are you getting more under the ball with the backhand backpin dink?
@pickleballplaybook6 ай бұрын
I don’t understand the question. Can you explain? Thanks!
@BoostITFORward Жыл бұрын
Great video. I am sure your technique is better than mine being that I am a 4.5 and you’re a 5.0+, but I don’t use as much wrist as you on the topspin dinks (forehand and two handed backhand). I use a lot more arm/shoulder than anything. When I get my wrist involved too much, I seem to have less control of the ball and create more pop ups.
@pickleballplaybook Жыл бұрын
Yeah that can happen. What it comes down to is not breaking your wrist through the shot. Keep it cocked and you will not slap through it and pop it up. Does that help?
@BoostITFORward Жыл бұрын
@@pickleballplaybook Ya I break my wrist to position the tip of my paddle downwards, right before the shot, then I use my arm/shoulder to hit the ball cross court. It’s a really awesome shot (2H backhand) but it does take practice. Thanks for the vids!

I like what you have to say but think you need to stop playing with these Selkirk paddles with white on the face. It's amazing how much they obscure the ball, which not only makes it extremely difficult for your opponent but ends up making you worse since the quality of shot coming back from your opponent is diminished. AND, your poor shots aren't punished as much. They make everyone worse, which is not what we want. Just my .02
