One relatable thing about Sleeping Beauty? I’ll give you three. 1. Wondering when you will fall in love. Unlike a lot of other princesses or princesses to be, Aurora has spent her life thinking she is a commoner and is shut off from the world. By the standards of the day, she is eligible for marriage or betrothal. Her song “I Wander” reflects something that people who have been single for a long time ask; when will I be in love? 2. Special secrets; Aurora tells the woodland animals that she has had wonderful dreams about love (and I have a theory on this), and she keeps them from her Aunts (the good fairies). They are simply too good to share to anyone to come raining on her parade. We all have our secrets, silly and sordid, but sometimes they give us happiness when faced with unfortunate reality. 3. Maintain your skill set. Even though song and dance won’t get you as far today, in the years of Sleeping Beauty the ability to sing and dance were quite prized. Aurora practices these skills (and no doubt some of her other homemaker skills expected of a woman, even a Queen) well worked and she is quite capable. No doubt her first lessons ended up with sore feet for everyone, but by sixteen she is quite accomplished in ballroom and opera singing. For anyone who has skills, natural or learned, it is important to keep them practiced so that you are ready for the time they are needed, *Mic drop.*

If Ariel "abandoned" her family, then so has every person who's moved out their hometown/gotten married/established their own life apart from their relatives. I also find it interesting that no one accuses or judges Hercules for doing literally the same thing. He gave up the goal he AND Phil had been working towards for years and chose Meg (who was double crossing him up til the middle of the movie) over being with his family who actually loved and missed him. As opposed to King Triton who was overbearing, hot headed and was ok with Ariel being unhappy until she finally left. The amount of criticism she gets is one-sided and ridiculous in my opinion.

Forget what the media says about Cinderella, she remained brave, strong, smart and intelligent and did not rely on a prince to save her because she does take initiative to free herself from the abuse. I remember watching Cinderella with my sister when I was very little and I felt in love with Cinderella and her compassion & beauty. I remember laughing and feeling so bad for her at the same time when Lucifer messes up her cleaning when she's singing the Nightingale Song. I love the animation with the bubbles and the lighting on that scene. And you just can't feel but happy for her when she finally gets her dream come true

My Top 5 Favorite Disney Princesses Honorable Mentions -Cinderella (She's kind, sympathetic, relatable, and genuine) -Jasmine (A smart and fun princess. Nothing more. Nothing less) 5.Elsa (She's a misunderstood victim who many treat her as a villain. But, in reality, she's a sympathetic person who was cursed with magical ice powers that's tormenting her, making her an interesting character) 4. Belle (She's smart, independent, but at the same time kind and genuine) 3. Tiana (This is a really cool princess. She takes the infamous "follow your dreams" lesson and turns it upside down by aknowleding that getting what you want in life doesn't come from wishing on a star alone. But, it comes from hard work, making Tiana more down to earth and realistic) 2. Anna (She's the princess I relate to the most. She acts and thinks like me, she's funny quotable, her relationship with Kristoff is alot of fun, and I dig her character growth in Frozen 2 because of how I relate to her) #1. Ariel (The first proactive Disney princess to break away from classic princess trope, take it to a new direction, and is far from a generic, passive, and weak damsel who helplessly sits around waiting to be rescued (saving Flounder from a shark, killing Flotsem and Jetsem, and saving Prince Eric more than once), something that princess characters are infamous for. She's just as interesting as she is lovable and adorable and her beauty and voice also make me smile.

Sleeping Beauty really didn't the box office failure it got. It's my favorite movie before the renaissance and Aurora deserve more credit than she get. I hear a criticism given is that Aurora is only in her own film for 18 minutes. She's actually in it for 30. Also, Philip did get more screen time than the previous ones did, but he still didn't have as much character as Aurora did. Also, the good ferries only get 3 or 4 minutes more of screen time than Aurora which I don't it enough to consider them main character over Aurora.
