Some of the best advice for arrow builds ive heard in a while. Ive heard great things about every broadhead you mentioned. Only honorable mention id have is the grim reaper line. And also for some quicker smaller game keep in mind the iron will that are hollowed out make more noise in air. Good luck to everyone this year!

Solid advice. Lower poundage shorter draw length guy here. 27" at about 63 pounds. Had good luck with elk keeping arrows in the 425 grain range with a fixed head like the Exodus. Also like the recommendation of sticking with more weight up front. I shoot 100 grain heads but with the Black Eagle SS half outs coming in at an additional 56 grains. I prefer the .204 diameter arrows which I feel is a happy medium. Like the stick bow guys I have a significant arc in flight at distance. All things considered there is a balance between weight, speed, trajectory, momentum, etc. Nothing here intended to be an asshole.

Aron, thanks for sharing your knowledge in such a down to earth, brass tax manner. Quick question, are you nock tuning arrows when using glue in field points and/or broadheads? Or a re you trusting the spine align mark on the Victory arrows? If you are nock tuning, what is your process with the glue in components? Thanks in advance for your time!

When you’re talking arrow weight are you meaning 450+ with the broadhead/ field point? Or is that just arrow and components, minus points?

Thanks. Curious what negative effects having too stiff a spine does on low poundage compound set ups
@jasenlarue67335 ай бұрын
Poor arrow flight or a BH that hits right of field point for a right handed shooter.
@pennyontrack5 ай бұрын
@@jasenlarue6733 hitting right of your field point is a recurve problem I believe. I haven’t seen that happen with a compound that is tuned. If anything I’ve seen stiffer arrows shoot more constantly with Broadheads than lighter spines arrows that are “correct” according to spine charts
@tobpitbull5 ай бұрын
10gpp recurves.. works best I’ve seen over years in all regards, speed but more importantly sound. 7.5-8.3gpp compound… my Hoyt rx8 at 65 pds with a Easton 340 FMJ & brass insert with 100 gn is one hard hitting bow… and may I add very quiet which is a must here in Midwest when hunting whitetails 5 years old and up.

Arron sir can you tell me what you have seen with your evolution Jekyll and Hyde heads out at distance concerning drag? Are you losing 1 to 2 yards like other mechanicals out past 70 yards? Curious what you have seen trying to narrow down what I will use this year and I have both those but have not tested out to distance.
@aronsnyder94875 ай бұрын
At 80 yards I really don’t see much drop with either of those broadheads. At 100 I get about a 4 inch 26 inch drop with Jekyll and next to none with the Hyde.

How do you feel about a deep six insert and collar with a sevr or iron will broadhead?
@brentbandy35665 ай бұрын
Pretty similar to a hit insert with a collar, so I’d say he’d approve.
@aronsnyder94875 ай бұрын
The biggest negative side to the deep six system is availability. They’re not as durable as some of the other options but with a collar, it’s not bad.

New to the archery game and my first elk hunt is in sept. Is my arrow setup sufficient?
@jameshoward79785 ай бұрын
Assuming you’re shooting 300 spine and approximately 26.5” arrows, I would guess your total weight is closer to 460 (9.3*26.5+55+7+27+125). That’s plenty as long as you’re able to push that with a fair amount of speed. For reference, I shoot 458gr and 503gr setups somewhat interchangeably for Elk (30” DL, 77#, V3 31) with 100gr QAD Exodus or SEVR 1.5s up front
