A supernatural malware that's managed to escape the VR game and has taken over (but not completely), the body of that player which kind of reminds me of The Evil Within 1 when Ruvik managed to escape STEM through Leslie's body, except this time, it's a mix of supernatural and computer technology elements and the possessed individual is now a serial killer with a costume similar to something you would see in the movie "You're Next," and this possessed person still has a conscience left but is unable to completely control her body and mind. @@Nikapocalypse Tbf they're different cases. Scott tried dozens of times to make family-friendly, christian games but just had a natural tendency towards uncanny designs and weird, dark lore that sabotaged him and ended up making FNaF; Rareware meanwhile were pumping out numerous platformers with kids in mind (Although they ended up being some of the best games ever), but were called babies for doing so, leading to the devs making one of the most offensive, ridiculous games ever in a Nintendo console.
@Ingri94 жыл бұрын
I feel like the jumpscares of these games aren't really meant as a "payoff", but more as a punishment. They aren't there to heighten the tension or upping the scary atmosphere, because when they appear it's just the end -- you're dead. You failed. On the contrary, the jumpscares actually release tension. They release you from playing the game, you are no longer against the clock, there are no more animatronics to look for. The jumpscares also almost never appears unexpectedly, you almost always know when you've failed before you actually get the jumpscare; either by the doors and lights not working or the hoarse breathing close to you when you are looking at the cameras, when BB is able to get in your room, or when springtrap is just staring at you from outside your door, telling you that you are almost certainly doomed and a jumpscare awaits the moment you put down your camera. You are always at the mercy of the clock so there may be a part of you that hopes the clock will turn to 6am in time, which is probably the highest possible moment of tension in the games. And then it sucks even more to have that loud noise happen and an animatronic jump at you and startle you. So I don't really think they were ever meant to be scary, necessarily. They are an annoying punishment for failing the game. An incentive to do what you can to win te game so you don't have to experience it at all. Side note, I also thinks it's funny that dying and having a jumpscare releases the tension and boots you back to the main menu, but winning just boots you straight to the next night, not letting you relish in winning for more than like 10 seconds before it wants you to keep going.
@GypsyxDarling3 жыл бұрын
Jump scares are used as tension release in movies as well, since the extended experience of watching a horror movie basically means you’ll become numb to the fear eventually. Even people who aren’t scared of jump scares (or even those who are, like me) often laugh at them, which also resets the system. This makes them very effective reboots for starting the night over fresh, as you stated. It’s actually pretty clever!

this is something people dont take into account enough; you dont have jumpscares, you hate unneeded jumpscares. a spooky lady doing a scream with no warning isnt horror. thats not interesting, thats not *terrifying*, thats just loud and startling. but when youre deep into the film or game and youre really paying attention and youre already nervous and then it happens? its exhilarating, its punitive, its a great release of tension and its a great warning for things to come.

I feel like people don’t pay attention to the lore either, it’s cool if you like or dislike it, but I feel like it needs more attention, it may be a little convoluted, but it has some of the best horror and sci-if elements I’ve ever seen in storytelling. I hate it when people act like Scott is just milking the franchise. A lot of the money he makes goes to charity, he actually made a free game for MatPat to play so he can donate money to charity, plus the first five games only costed $7.99 (except for one which costed $5), and how about after FNaF 5? Pizzeria Simulator, free. Ultimate Custom Night, free. World, FREE. Pretty sure the highest price a FNaF game has ever been was Help Wanted with it being $19.99, maybe Security Breach will beat that but he is now working with another studio so it’d be understandable. Edit: I don’t get people who think they’re right about everything and think other people should dislike and like whatever they think should be disliked or liked, all people have their own opinions, so don’t act like everyone should have the same as yours. Edit 2: Jesus this has gotten out of hand :/

the little "ah" when springtrap appeared shows just how effective the jumpscare was in fnaf 3

Very hot take, springtrap is the scariest jumpscare in the franchise. Every other jumpscare is just scary because it looks frightening and is surprising, like you're being mauled by an animal, but the springtrap one feels a lot more like a psychopath saying "looks like you lost. And I'm going to have a lot of fun."
@phantomgamer38984 жыл бұрын
It's odd, usually whenever I talk to people about the lore of this franchise, we all agree that it got way too complicated and despite that being cool in a way it's also tiring. However, you were the one person who actually acknowledged Scott really ended the story in FNaF 6 despite the new content being released, and honestly, it feels really good to see someone give credit to Scott for that ending.
@darkhumour7414 жыл бұрын
I feel like more people should pay attention to Scott's THOUGHT PROCESS. You can see it across the games - the different sprites & colour shades for purple guy? only relevant for Sister Location, where it was a different person; Michael - the near year long debate about who was inside Springtrap? came from a robotic voice effect for Michael that Scott *didn't even intend to sound robotic* - the 1983 vs 1983 debate for FNAF 4? Scott tried to end it with the private room in Sister Location but instead...he had to just outright confirm it was 1983 in *a reddit post next year* he's a (remarkable) human being trying his best - not some infallable master storyteller. Try to keep that in mind for lore solving, because atleast from my experience it's really helped

I never felt Scott was milking his franchise, it's just the only franchise he worked on and it didn't require multi-years to work on a new title. But he still had his personal values in quality. When FNAF World came out he realized how much of big mistake he made out of it, issued refunds, made the game free, and then proceeded to fix it. Later on he realized Pizzaria simulator for free. He's had many chances to get a movie done that though would be subpar he'd make a ton of money from it but refused and held on to his principles. When a toy company that was bringing in him some profit not only released toys that spoiled his game but was very shoddily made, he took away their licenses. Personally I've felt... What is the best game of the 2010s? Witcher 3? Undertale? GTAV? Personally I feel it's FNAF, maybe the gameplay isn't your thing I get it. But this single person standing up against bigger companies and sticking true to his principles while owning his intellectual property is an inspiration to game developers everywhere. It shows you can still make it big with your franchise without giving up on your principles or worse losing your IP to these big companies. If that's not amazing, then I don't know what is.
@ishimura5564 жыл бұрын
You are 100% correct. As a fan who has been with the series from the beginning, and really getting to know Scott as a person over the years, you can tell he has never ever "milked" the franchise. When toy company's reached out to him sometime in 2015, he was extremely excited, and it really bled into the community at the time. I think comments about Scott like this, only really happen because he's just very down to earth and honest. Most people like to think someone is always thinking about pushing out new titles and gaining the dough, but that really wasn't the case with Scott. He has always enjoyed making games, it's clearly his passion.

You know what would be great? If after the jumpscares happen, you enter a stage where directional button prompts appear on the screen for you to struggle free while the animatronic screeches, shakes you and bears it's horrifying mechanical insides at you. With each night, the prompt sequences would become faster with less time between each prompt appearing, and go on for longer overall. That... would be pretty cool and generate some legitimate tension. You could even have it so specific parts of the animatronic lurch out at you that you almost have to dodge with the button prompts, and if you don't, you get a grizzly first person death animation.

“I was a FNAF kid.” Jesus Christ I feel old. The first FNAF came out the year after I graduated from high school. ;-; Really interesting retrospective though! But I don’t think I’ll ever stop being surprised over how successful this franchise has been though. 🤷🏻♀️ Also I love how that one FNAF world plane mini game was just a huge reference to Starfox 64. I see what Scott did there.
