I was present at the 1992 airshow and recall how even the US pilots were impressed by its manoeuvrability. Also present was the Yak-38 v/stol aircraft. It took off vertically once, burnt a huge hole in the runway and then was banned from doing it again 😂

The radar on the Su 35 must be massive, that nose radome at 6:31 is huge. A very beautiful aircraft and a fierce 4+ jet no doubt.

That specific aircraft was the venerable su34 which I think has an air to ground and air to air radar in it's nose and is also wide because it is a two seater. The su34 is a multirole fighter so it can carry all the missiles of other flanker models, but it is primarily used as a ground attack aircraft. One of my favorites for sure!

@@bekeneel not realy, in 1991or1992 usa invited russians for a simulated dogfight , 2 russian pilots with su27 vs f15 , russians won 8-0 , research it and cry about it. merics were such bad loosers , reporter asked the general how it went and he said it was pretty even, pathetic liars. on the way back su27 were fueled with merican low quality fuel , they almost fell from heaven because they flew to high for that fuel, the russians told the merican jets who escorted em they had emergency and they should call for help when they go down ,the merics ignored em and just left. after a few minutes of free fall the russians could manage to get the engines working again and returned safe at home. USA sucks , they are pathetic liars who live for propaganda. nobody builds better jets than the russians, btw su57 is the only one with 360degree radar , western jets cant find enemys without stationed radars on the ground. and nobody has more training hours than them, also no stealth jet can hide from russian ionic radars who detect electricity . you know s h it welp

@@deanboy2416 Hmmm... I would say it's true but on 50% The 37M did hit the targed at 325km away twice (2 Ukrainan aircrafts, but it was SU 57). But the max range of 37M - 380km in theory (not 400+). Plus R-37 was desined for slow targets (tankers, AWACS), not shure that the 37M could hit F15 or F16 that far. Dual stage R-77M way more dangerous for F15/16s. I do not want to see that fights in real, but soon we will see it... 100%.

@@alexeyguskov8153 If it can hit a large slow moving target at 380-400km then it can probably hit a maneuvering fighter at around 250-300km no problem. As for its design I'll say this: it is roughly in the same weight class as the AIM-54 Phoenix, and that missile had no trouble hitting fighter-sized maneuvering targets, so I dont think that the R-37M will have any trouble at all.

For a long time I thought the Su-35 had canards but now Im learning that Concept 1 has canards, Concept 2 had the current production design with just 3D TVC. They should give it back its canards and improve the radar to an EASA, give it a side joystick and redesignate "Su-37M Terminator II". Su-37 and 47 are my fav aircraft to ever fly, sad that their budgets dried up.

You should clarify that the "3d thrust vectoring" of the su35 works by having 2 2d nozzles mounted at an angle, the su35 has nozzles that can move 10 degrees from the centerpoint along a single line that due to how they are mounted is canted 32 degrees to the outside

To be fair, Russian - or Chinese - military equipment would have locked Australia into Sino-Russian doctrine, culture and politics. With Hugh White, I'd say the only chance of Australia to remain neutral would have been to receive nuclear submarines and nuclear arms - and in consequence to cut all political ties to the US and the Commonwealth - in other words, a coup. From there, a domestic defense industry would have to be set up - which is not exactly trivial (e.g. Australia has no nuclear industry, no aviation industry, no armor industry - solely some experience in submarine production). At this point, all is too late as it would take two generations to get that kind of readiness... Even if Australia would have openly joined China as a guarantor of it's territory, the US would have laid waste to Australian ports like the British did with neutral Denmark during the Napoleonic Wars...

Yes, I get the feeling the stealth might be a little bit ordinary, but otherwise it's a very competent, airframe. Very agile for such a big bird. Good payload, good range, excellent low-speed high alpha ability. You wouldn't want to get in close & tight against it. I notice it still uses a mechanically steered radar array. That suggests the electronics and avionics are still about 20 years behind what the Americans have got. On the plus side, I wouldn't be all that surprised if the infra-red suite is actually better than what the yanks and NATO have.

@@rajaydon1893 ~ well, I'm not sure that's something I'd be bragging about. The F-16 was designed in 1972 and stealth was never a consideration in the first 20+ years of it's life. '70s planes from America, had twin tails at 90 deg to the airframe. They started to go away from that with the F/A 18. Russian air frames, they're still making them that way. Twin vertical tails is like a deliberately made radar reflector. There are very good reasons for them, in aerodynamics and handling and high alpha and agility, but from a stealth stand-point, that's a nightmare. Now consider the Su-35 again ~ it has a smaller radar cross section than an F16. Ok, good. But that's still like an old metal bookshelf from the local library. Let's make another comparison. Turkey is starting to make a stealth fighter, I can't quite remember the name, but it looks like an F-22 except it has round exhausts, not the rectangular thrust vectoring ones. If you told me it had pretty good stealth as long as it was faced mostly toward you, I'd accept that. Now how does your Su-35 compare to the latest from Turkey? Don't compare it to something that was designed before the fall of Saigon, compare it to something that's in the prototype stage now.

In a visual range fight, I would back the Su-35 as being the equal of almost anything, but at 20 ~ 40 miles out, that's a different story. You can't fight what you can't see, and you can't beat somebody who can lock you up and launch beyond your detection range. A pilot of an F-22 or an F-35 is never going to get inside 40 miles, because why give up your advantage? It's not meant to be an 'even fight' ~ that's what they're designed for.

China is the first export user of the Su-35, but the purchase was made not because of the practical needs of the Chinese air force, but because of political concerns. By then China has already put its own 5th Gen fighter J-20 into service, and Chinese derivatives of the Flanker (e.g. the J-16) have avionics that is miles ahead of that of the Su-35.

Ukraine has lost about 400 airplanes and on fighter bomber channel they claim that about half was shot down by su 35 versions and a few by mig 31 with long range radar missles. Ukraine airforce was terrible bad but also they had very bad short range missles againt russian long range stuff. To bad the F16 also will have bad short rtange versions of amrams. Having short range missles in 2024 is like flying an slow airplane in ww2.

@@imepriimek398 2 fighters were shot down. This information was from the news of NATO countries as well. Ukraine confirmed the loss of two aircraft. But we cannot know for sure what exactly shot them down; perhaps it was the S400 or S350 air defense. Su-35 fighter missiles are used against AWACS; it is unlikely that they can shoot down a fighter because it is too maneuverable a target. For fighters, medium-range missiles are used.
