Try enabling Quartz Extreme. By default on Tiger "Quartz Extreme" only works on AGP cards, but it could be soft enabled in the OS. Core Image would have been nice to have but the 9200 can't do it at all. A flashed Nvidia Fx5200 PCI would be an amazing upgrade for that machine + the software mod for PCI cards.

I have a similar setup to yours. Beige G3 Minitower with the Sonnet 500 MHz G4 processor, 768 MB of RAM, and the ATI Radeon 9200 card. Did you have any trouble with some extension conflicts on OS 9.2.2? I had to turn off 2 extensions for the ATI 8500 and Rage 128 in extensions manager because the computer would boot to the desktop and freeze every single time with the 9200 installed. Only reason I have the 9200 was because my Radeon 7000 card died last year and I needed something as good or better and found someone selling a Mac Edition on eBay at the time. Watching videos in the browser is going to be CPU-only unless there is Hardware Acceleration, which it didn't look like there was. You'd be much better off using 3D games for benchmarks, although you'd likely see much better performance in OS 9 (with proper drivers, here: gona.mactar.hu/ATI_Mac/ don't forget the hotfix), instead of OS X. Also, GeekBench is only a CPU benchmark, none of the image-related stuff is being done on the GPU.

Also the GF6200 was limited to a 64bit VRAM interconnect to the GPU, so is very memory bandwidth limited. It should be possible to use a PCI to PCI-E bridge and get ATI and nVidia PCI-E cards working in the Beige, but the PCI 33 max bandwidth of 133MB/s would become the limiting factor. The Beige G3 has jumpers that can be set to overclock the PCI bus and that would add some performance. I have all the equipment so let me know if anyone is still interested and I'll run some tests.

Mac OS X for PowerPC doesn't support hardware acceleration for anything beyond Mpeg 2. So KZbin etc, won't be accelerated. Obviously support was added to newer versions of MacOS, but those only ran on Intel based Macs. So PPC CPUs have to decode KZbin in software, without any help from the GPU, which is much slower.

I managed a monster hack along these lines... is appears that the DIP8 BIOS chips on 2000-2005 era PC motherboards can be used to replace the ROM chips on PC versions of these 9200 PCI cards... The bios chip is usually 512k or 1M, MORE than enough space for the full 128k mac rom. A DIP8 socket, and a SOP8 to DIP8 adapter will let you upgrade the roms on these cards, and even make them swappable, so with a resistive dip switch on the MAC/PC selector resistor, you can have a Hybred PC/MAC card. My beige G3 is catching up... Just need that sonnet card next.

Anyway, I'm curious about performance because I just bought a G4 mac mini (1st gen), which has a Radeon 9200 built-in. Only 32MB though, so I don't expect gaming performance would be amazing. It's odd i discovered somehow best GPU ever called GeForce 4 Go, Pentium M 1.1GHz in HP TC1100 plus LAV codec vs < 0.72 to be installed of K-Lite Codec Pack it enables DXVA it's able to display smoot video in 2022 of KZbin although in 240p. Mac should be able to play it?! It's more powerfull. I was able to watch iPad premiere on it 2010 on Safari 5 on Windows when YT was in Flash watched on 480p, it was awsome experience to be alive then. BTW. it's not issue with Flash this browser, but Safari itself while(1) loop in it to wait for data, to make it fastest browser but causing this browser to be CPU hungry if your internet is slow. It wasn't issue on desktop but you could tell using laptop. But i digress. Apple was always blaming everyone else for their fauts id this TC1100 experience gave me all knowlage i need. Later they removed Cover Flow of Safari and i removed this of all mine devices knowing how bad in fact this browser was. But in retrospect it was fun time.. Trough years I was able to run almost same machines all that time, its been 15 year now, to be daily driver up until 2019 since 2008 also mine mom PC with 1.8, 2, 3GHz, 4 core Athlon x2 then x4 640 so on so forth updated, mine Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad, Intel GPU, Radeon 9200,9500,1950,9800,x200,x1250,x600, 5450, 7470,R5 240 and GeForce 6200, FX5500, 7300, on this and on laptops and this old HP machine is still i repeat STILL able to watch KZbin while not all of more modern was able to be as smooth, Now it's like 240p but few years earlier when they used x264 corec itr was able to watch smoothly 360p and it was possible to watch 480p when they used MPEG4 in Flash 2010, for some time i was using this as mine daily driver to watch movies on platform called cda.pl now im not using it, using EliteBook this thing is works best on Windows Vista not that bad on SUSE Linux, im using more modern machines more modern GPU upgrade. Been using Dell GX1 with PCI video cards fastest possible, actually mine mom and girlfriend with 1GHz Pentium III when i installed PCI Radeon 9000 or so, was able finally to watch DVD smoothly and Media Player Classic rmvb videos. At that time this one device TC1100 struggled to display 640x480 to be able to watch tv series, remember watching Dr. House on it, then they somehow upgraded LAV decoder when this device was way too old, obsolete it all of sudden worked better than in it's time. I enabled DXVA copy-back and since then MPEG4 h264 720p consumed only 18% of Pentium M 1.1GHz and up to 25% of Celeron M 800Mhz not 100% like before, this machine is albe to play videos wghile Athlon X2 with Radeon 2600 then Radeon 4650 then 4850 wasnt on desktop! Two cores 2x2GHz vs single core Pentium M 1.1 and this ingenious GeForce 4 Go, even 6200 Go wasnt able to play MPEG2 DVD on other laptopl friend gave me. I found more modern drivers and DXVA was again avaliable but not anymore newest LAV 7.2 somehow removed that feature. Using now old Windows Vista M5, Maxthon browsers, CA certificates update applied still in 2022 you can download updates of system via WSUS Proxy program still is able to play videos on KZbin could you believe that? For a while used UCBrowser Desktop then Slimjet then MX5, But i cant anylonger log into Google acoount using Linux using Windows 7 if i have to. For while Opera Mobile Emulator was option on that crappy old Windows XP Tablet Why im wasting time, writing all of it.. well.. To say that Mac G3, G4 1GHz 1frame per second, 2 frames per seconds.. souds odd to me, Mac OS uses OpenGL to display dekstop maybe thats why?! I believe if someone released updated ffmpeg, LAV or whatever coded with some kind DXVA equivalent for Mac OS it might display smooth video even better than when this machien was nice and fresh. It's almost as powerfull if not faster than Pentium M specially 1GHz version. It's all about drivers its all about software. I wish someday make proxy for modern websites, Puppetier on Node.Js or whatever based on, to then convert videos on fly to some smaller videos format and some older video format to be able to use if not KZbin cause it's difficult but at least bitchuite. Maybe you should try to make it this way? Rumble, oddysey, bitchute if you get source code of website they embadded mp4 file and with few hacks and tricks maybe you could write "proxy" to convert if on server to let your old Macs to be used as daily drivers again? Nevertheless.. 1GHz Pentium M, good graphic card, overlay, dxva and voila. Mac G4 should be able to do same i believe but it's all about software.

Mac OS for PowerPC doesn't have built in support for hardware acceleration of the newer codecs beyond Mpeg 2. Apple added OS support for acceleration of newer codecs ***AFTER*** they had moved to Intel CPUs, and had already stopped development of the old PPC OS. With PPC, the CPU itself has to do all the decoding in software on anything newer than Mpeg 2. Old, unsupported versions of Windows suffer the same problems with newer codecs... new things don't get added to OLD operating systems.

KZbin will not work at good frame rates with this kind of hardware. Video cards from this time period lack the hardware decoders. Everything is being rendered in software. It's like playing QuakeGL with a video card that doesn't support OpenGL. (Kind of)

When working on a computer open like that, if you're concerned about air flow, you can always set a fan loosely on top of the heat sink, blowing air upward, away from the heat sink. Just remember that it's loose or you'll keep knocking it off. :)
