Update for y'all, she's been active on Twitter somewhat (last tweet was April 3rd). On Christmas day she posted: "This year has been incredibly trying and my mental health has suffered a lot. I miss you guys, and I’ll be back when I can." She also made some general tweets about anxiety and mental health so that seems to be an ongoing struggle.

I have always had thin, fine hair and I've done it all - I feel like I've been through every single brand of volumizers. What I've finally found works best for me is pretty much nothing at all. No heat styling, no dye, little to no products and washing once a week. My hair feels healthy and fuller from not damaging it constantly, and I get lots of natural texture 2-3 days after washing it. My hair is my least favourite on the first day of washing it, and I used to wash it every other day. ☺

I think a what to ask for at the salon series could be really cool and so useful. One video could be about what haircuts to look for to help different hair concerns (like which hair cuts are best for creating fullness at the crown, etc.). Another video could be a guide to getting dimensional hair color from a salon visit and you could go through what different coloring techniques work best for different hair colors.

@@hannahjacobs3416 I understand. I missed some things about the 90’s. I miss the effortless clothes. I was 18 in 1993. I kept certain things I bought after I graduated from college and my first job. Levi’s cropped jean jacket, my leather grommet belt from Old Navy, my Benetton overalls and sweaters, my Born black wedges, my crazy expensive Calvin Klein black bikini (no clue why I paid so much so little fabric,) a Vera Wang blazer and pants, a J Crew black dress, etc. I bought them at the outlet, I bought most of it from the outlet mall, carried high end stuff with small damaged areas for a fraction of the price. Would you be willing to go all hair nerd on us and formulate a DIY overnight hair oil treatment for us dry scalp/dry hair ladies? I try to oil up my hair the night before I wash it and put it in a turbie twist. But I can’t seem to find the right balance of oils and ya girl is on a budget!
@AlexC13912 жыл бұрын
I don’t really know what I’m talking about haha BUT, I’ve watched a lot of manes by Mel’s videos and shes talked about how overnight masks/treatments/conditioners can often times make scalp/dry hair issues worse. She obviously explains it much better than I’ll be able to, but it has to do with hygral fatigue, which is when your hair gets too much moisture, causing the porosity to change, it can get gummy feeling and change texture, etc. She explains that deep conditioners (or any product) should only be kept on for the amount of time instructed. Otherwise you are not only wasting your time because it is no longer actively working, but it could be overdoing it on the moisture, protein, etc (whatever the treatment is). Also, and I’m sure you already know this, but they say that a lot of oils that people try to use in DIY concoctions (especially coconut oil) is not effective because it isn’t able to penetrate the hair shaft. Mel has also talked about it not being great to leave your hair wet overnight (even without product) cause it can cause your scalp to get irritated and yucky. Again, watch her videos for the actual advice hahaha. I highly recommend her vids cause she’s a professional hairstylist and talks a lot about the science. She has curly hair and that’s what her videos are about, but the scientific stuff is still applicable to any hair type. And she has a lot of vids on scalp care and dry scalp! I’ve struggled with scalp issues for years too, so I feel your pain!!
