SUMMARY: 1) Your hair can't be too long. Her hair was waist length and weighed her roots down, is now 'bra strap length'. 2) Use dry texturizing shampoo to help give lift and volume to combat oil. her fav is in the description. 3) Get roots very clean, moisturize ends. shampoo is in description. Don't put moisturizer on roots. 4) Bleached hair absorbs oil better. Don't overdo it and damage your hair beyond no return but if considering highlights it will also help with oil and help your hair style better. 5) If hair is extremely healthy (not colored/processed) and you want to curl your hair put in minimal conditioner and no leave ins or sprays. Your fine, virgin, straight, healthy, hair doesn't need any moisture or oils, that will only relax the curls. 6) Mousse is better than hairspray. A lot of hairspray on fine hair creates crunch and mats. Mousse more touchable and effective. Flexible hold hairspray after is okay, not firm hold. 7) Go with smaller barrel when curling because you know your hair will loosen up anyway. 8) Curling hair before styles (braiding etc) gives volume and helps styles hold. Braids look different with curled hair, more 'bubbly' and voluminous. 9) Pomade better than oil better for frizzy ends bc it won't loosen the curl like oil would. very damaged ends could use a tiny bit of oil on the very very ends.

Thank you for talking about the struggles of fine, THIN STRAIGHT hair. Girls with the opposite type of hair think their STRAIGHTENED hair is the perfect kind of hair, therefore they wish they had straight hair. All the thick haired girls whine and cry about how good we have it, how we have the easiest hair to manage and deal with. It makes me SOOOO mad every single time I hear it, and I feel completely alone in my own hair struggles. They have no idea what it's like to not be able to do ANYTHING with your hair. Or how it immediately separates in to tiny, scraggly oily strands that want to just stick to you if you don't use any products. How it makes you look like a wet rat most of the time, people think you're dirty because you look greasy. God forbid you have oily skin like me too, hello acne. If you wash it too much it just gets oilier, but it looks best when it's freshly washed. I only wash my hair twice a week, it still doesn't look nice when it's not washed, despite what people say about your hair not getting as dirty as quickly when you go longer between washes. Still VERY noticeable that it's oily. But it's healthier to go longer without washing it, and it makes it take a LITTLE bit longer to get oily. Like one extra day. They don't know how the tiniest breeze turns our hair into a bird's nest of a thousand painful tangles, but brushing your hair more than once a day will make it an oily mess. Girls with thick frizzy hair think they have to use a million products to smooth their hair down when they really just need some moisture and to stop using heating tools. Thin haired girls have to use a bunch of products to make their hair just look NORMAL and not over dry or over moisturize and weight it down. And damage actually makes it look better! To a point of course. Once it's super damaged, it looks and feels like fried straw. Thankfully our hair does better with bleach than other types. It is a CONSTANT battle for balance that just gets overlooked as "Oh you can do whatever you want with your hair, you're so lucky!" Girl I haven't been able to curl my hair in YEARS. I have given up styling my hair at all, it's so ugly. I just let it be its natural flat self, since thick haired girls say we can do that with our hair. "You can just wash it and walk out the door and look great!" And it looks horrible lol. There are no positives to fine thin straight hair, besides not having to do much with it if you cut it all off.

Madison Crum I relate to everything! Such a stupid thing to worry about, but I’ve cried many times over my hair because it literally NEVER looks good. Considered shaving it but my parents would kill me. I’ve tried waist length hair, I’ve tried a bob, I’ve tried no layers and layers, I’ve tried different styles. l don’t know what to do.

i'm 49. i started lightening and coloring my hair in my late teens. part of the reason was for what she mentioned here - i had fine and oily hair. keeping it "damaged" helped me keep it somewhat styled. i kept this up until the last few years when we just can't afford it. fortunately, its not as oily as it used to be. but the good news, ladies, oily hair and skin will keep you more youthful looking longer!! up until the last year, people thought i was still in my 30s. the last year has been stressful due to health issues, so i have some fine lines around my eyes that are beginning to tell on me, but people still think i'm early 40s. september, i'll be 50. there's always a silver lining to every problem.

It might take some mixing and matching, but until our girl has time, this might help!

Girl you have brought this lady's fine, flat (yet super thick) hair to life just by watching your videos over the years but this one was EXTRA helpful. Really does a great job of breaking down what you do to your hair to come up with your style (that I have been desperately trying to recreate - getting there haha). I am with everyone saying we want a product haul/recommendation video though. BTW, I did not know that color treated hair was such a great repellent of the whole grease situation...I just always assumed that my hair looked worse because my roots were growing out, not because the grease holds better to unbleached hair. Definitely validates my frustration with my hair when it's due for a touch up. 😜 Love your stuff and just love you in general!! Keep being amazing!! And if you could post some more bridal hair tutorials l would love you forever (my bestie is getting married in November and I'm her MOH and we are trying to figure out styles for all the girls 😳 #allthefloofybraids)

This is great advice for people with this type of hair like myself! I can confirm that these techniques will work! No hair stylist has been able to help me and it took years for me to discover these things on my own. You have saved young people with this hair type years of struggling and disappointment. There is just one other thing that I have learned for keeping my hair curled. Use setting lotion and steam rollers. Any other method just falls out in about 10 mins or less. I did learn one thing from your video and that is the advice about curling your hair before doing a voluminous braid. I was unsuccessful when I tried this type of braid before. So, I'll try your advice. Thank you!

Girl, where were these tips when I was in high school lol I'm 33 and just learning about all these things and how to style my fine straight hair. I'm so glad I've come across your channel and how to better deal with my hair. I've always struggled with keeping a curl in my hair and back in like middle/high school and if I wanted to curl my hair for whatever reason, I would douse my hair in hairspray. So I'm going to try using mouse. Thank you for all your tips!

Very interesting! I also just realised that damage is your friend.. I was OBSESSED with healthy hair but now I finally broke free and got my highlights again, so happy! It would be very interesting to talk a bit about cuts, I struggle with heaviness or with weird shapes with certain lengths and layers

my sister and niece's hair are so fine, i could literally brush their hair, put the brush down to braid it, and it already be tangled again. my niece's hair would literally catch lint from the air and tangle around it.

Have you tried clarifying and/or chelating it? You can get special shampoos for that. I absolutely understand your struggle :D

I had to cut my hair to get rid of this problem! Once my hair gets below my chest, the tangles will never end!

What helps me is Argan oil. I take a tiny bit of my hair serum and put a drop or two of Argan oil on top, warm it up in my hands and spread it around in my damp hair (from the chin down). After this I blowdry my hair with a paddle brush until it's about 90% dry. The oils and blow drying it with a paddle brush makes a real difference in how tangled it gets.

Try adding apple cider vinegar (organic) to your hair washing routine (there are many videos on this topic). It makes my hair nice and soft. Also, try braiding it. It REALLY keeps my hair from getting tangled. If I put my hair up in a ponytail, it gets tangled. If in braids, it doesn't!

This is so helpful, thanks. My hair is impossible to curl, or get any volume in, and I never considered it was because my hair is too healthy!
