Thank you for making this video with such clear meaning and understanding of wearing a teffilin.

Wonderful education. I did have to slow down the video speed because you speak quickly. That works perfectly. Thank you ☺

Thank you very much for this all-inclusive instruction! I am new to Judaism and have already invested well in a set of Gassos Tefillin and am doing the practice wrapping with a measuring tape until I am permitted to don the Tefillin for the first time by my Rabbi. I will remember your shop when I need to send mine in for Annual Kosher Inspection!

New subscriber. You didn't mention placement in the tefillin bag after removal. I was taught to put the shel rosh on the right. Does it matter?
@TheSoferCenter2 жыл бұрын
That is a good point. Thank you for bringing that to my attention, perhaps I'll make an additional video just addressing that alone. Typically yes you are right and there is a reason for that although if it is put on the other side it is still ok.

My Tiffilin were a Bar Mitzvah gift from my grandmother in 1967, they belonged to her father! The Shel Yod is falling apart & I don’t know what to do. I had a rabbi who took them to Chicago & had them checked about 25 years ago but we no longer have a synagogue anywhere nearby. I use them daily & have thought about buying new Tiffilin but I have treasured using my great Zada’s Tiffilin. Thoughts?

You can ship them to me if you would like me to take a look at them... but there are risks in opening up old Tefillin... see this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZKYpqZqeNeMi8k with that being said, if it is possible that they are still Kosher but just not sure and you want to be on the safe side I would recommend buying a new pair in order to make the blessing on and fulfil the mitzvah of Tefillin, then afterwards you can put on your Zeides Tefillin. When you make the blessing on your new Tefillin have in mind your Zeides Tefillin which will be put on after. Best of both worlds.

@@TheSoferCenter The thought of sending them off frightens me! They are one of my most prized possessions, I had them in storage for many years but in consultation with my dad, 99 yrs old!, & his rabbi, I began using them High Holy Days last year & every day since. I know I am damaging them, but I think I honor him by using them. I am new to this Mitzvah.

@@swyman10 We're very similar! I also started wrapping with my great-grandfather's tefillin so I can understand the closeness and powerful feeling it brings. Ultimately, you give more honor to your zeide by fulfilling the mitzvah correctly. In my case, I chose to keep my sentimental pair and not send them in because, like Rabbi Kass mentioned, I didn't want to risk opening them up and not being able to close them again. I bought a new pair for myself to use everyday and now have my great-grandfather's old pair on my office as a reminder. I would recommend you do something similar. If there is a Chabad anywhere nearby they would love to help you out.

Another thing that you can do is put on the new pair that you know is 100% kosher and use that to fulfill the mitzvah and there's no harm afterwards putting on the other pair which we don't know whether it's good or not but of course not making a blessing on that.
