Super helpful. Ordered a set as a gift and they were tied Sefardi. Your instructions were very easy to follow to retie them properly for him.

I’m looking forward to your instructions to secure the hand knot to the box. I’m not in the market for new tefillin, but I would like to visit if I’m in the area.

Thank you so much. My son had a very close relationship with his Sabba Rabba (great-grandfather), and olev ha-shalom, was given one of his pairs of Tefillin for his bar mitzvah. Fortunately they were tied the wrong way, and I got a chance to learn how to retie the retzuit. I've always wondered how to tie this knot. Thank you so much for the lesson... Now for the shel-rosh!

Did you find it easy to follow?

Thanks for this. Was wondering why my new set wasn’t sitting right there for way too long! Finally got it right now!

I bought retzuos from you today and did end up using your video to tie them. It was much easier to follow than illustrations in a book. Edit: I also answered my question on another video, "Why don't remember seeing the hair to tie the yod to the beis before about 20 yrs ago?" With the 18mm wide retzuos, the yod isn't going anywhere. I gave myself a rug burn tugging the retzuo through the mabarta."

Rabbi, if you could please give me clarity on a subject. I have a kosher Peshutim Mehudarim tefillin that, despite being Ashkenaz (even the Shin pattern is in the triangular shape, typically Ashkenaz), the knot is Sephardic, and I don't understand why that could be it. Could there be a reason for it? Would there be a custom for an Ashkenaz tefillin to be like that? Thank you!

Hi I'm a gentile but find your videos very interesting. I have a question, is the Tefillin a cube because the tablets (10 comandments) were a cube? If not, why are Tefillin a cube?

it is a law given to Moses at Sinai (Hebrew Halakhah le-Moshe mi-Sinai הלכה למשה מסיני) refers to a halakhic law for which there is no biblical reference or source, but rather was passed down orally as a teaching originating from Moses at Sinai. Such teachings have not been derived from any Talmudical hermeneutics, but known solely from the Jewish tradition.

@@TheSoferCenter This is a great explanation. Thank you. What are the oldest known Tefillin?
@jwhippet83132 жыл бұрын
@@R.N.19 , the oldest ones come from Qumran and are 2000 or so years old. Other sets were found around Masada also. The gap between oldest and second oldest is huge bc they are fragile and don't preserve well. I've seen some in museums that are 300 or so years old. If I remember, they were from Morocco, which is also a hot, dry country.

@@jwhippet8313 Thank you! I love archaelogy. I've never seen the ones found at Qumram, I'll do some research.
