I got a tip that helped me getting a better understanding of directional air roll. Go into an aerial shot pack and purposely jump in a way that you wouldn't be able to hit the ball without adjusting, then use air roll to hit the shot. This will take a lot of trial and error, but after doing this for many hours i can confidently say that i still miss open nets.

That's what I did...I started with 1 full rotation and then hit the ball...did that until I was consistently hitting shots...then went to 1 and a half rotations for months until I understood how my car moves in every way possible holding dar

@@Serdy you went way more precise on it then i did then. I just kinda threw myself at it and with trial and error i got better. Obviously paying close attention to what happens and why it worked or didn't work what i did - to speed up the trial and error process. I am honestly not even thinking about how many rotations i make when i am going for it, i just kinda know what to do by now in a lot of situations. However, gotta throw a disclaimer in here, i try to avoid having to adjust a lot in actual ranked games, i only use it when i have no other choice. But if i can avoid using so much boost and overcommit, i will just look for a different option, like taking a 50 or just going back.

to all my fellow low rank players.. directional air rolling is a means to get touches and control your car on a different axis than normal air roll..its not to be fancy or have swagg so learn to use it wisely...getting a nice save doing a sick tornado spin is cool but the most important thing is you got the save

@mistadude going high is enough of a mix at a low rank, no need to tornado behind it, odds are you aren’t getting the direction change; better to build good habits. The need to mix aerial attacks isn’t till c3 minimum. For low ranks, just be able to actually pop it up and take it high is enough.

Been at it for 6+ months now, and I'm starting to finally get really good at it. It's a marathon not a race. Your brain needs to read all the patterns from being turned in different directions over and over until you automatically start fixing mistakes based on muscle memory

Go into pillars map (or any map) and turn on slow mo. Then practice air rolling and makong adjustmets. Start with just forward and backward adjustments (push up or pull down) depending on where your car faces. Once you learn that it all comes together. And the slow mo is really helpful. Applying it to normal speed is a piece of cake once you learn slow mo

I think this is the most helpful advice I’ve seen. Maybe slow memo is what I need to make it make sense. Because all these videos are just like keep doing it and you’ll figure out what makes you spin out or go to the ground, but when you’re spinning so fast and trying to learn you can’t even remember what direction you were facing when you spun out or turned down

​​@@toonco7473 In my head I see it this way, you can move the nose of your car over the X axis (up and down) and the Y axis (left and right). When you use directional air roll you can still move over both the X and Y axis while barrel rolling, but when you use normal air roll you eliminate your ability to use the Y axis. I use air roll left 90% of the time, but I've just learned how to use air roll right as well for recoveries and power shots. So no need for the (in my opinion) less versatile normal air roll.

Yet, free air roll, (as i call it) gives you the freedom to move your car in slight adjustments, whether its setting up an off the wall aerial, or making your car flattened out for a recovery. Both types of air roll are useful and provide assistance in their specific situations. That's why most players move to using both inputs further down the line. I never really know when to use Air Roll Left besides speed flipping and turning in the air. 💀

When I started focusing on learning air roll, I de-ranked hard. I just used it as much as possible and missed a lot of free aerials in the process. But no regarts, now I can air roll a lot more consistently, yet I’m still no master and still have a lot to learn. Also the biggest thing that helped me was redirects training packs. Idk why but those training pack put so much focus on positioning my car and rotating it. Plus it got me out of air rolling just for style, and got me to air roll for adjustments.

Air roll is the most over used/improperly used mechanic in the game. Between low Champ and High GC about 90% of people I play with and against seem like they taped down air roll. I've seen so many empty net misses and easy saves whiffed because the player tried to air roll in a situation where it did nothing...except make them miss the ball. It's a important skill to learn if you want to improve but building bad habits can be what gets you hard stuck in a lower rank. When I started playing I would always double jump and it took forever to break that habit. Learning the right way to do something slowly will get you a lot farther than learning the wrong way quickly.

Ont even have normal air roll binded.. I never had the need for it. I mainly use air roll left (LB) and sometimes for adjustments i use air roll right (RB). My binds are. Boost: B Jump: A Drift: X Ball cam: Y Air roll left: LB Air roll right: RB Gas: RT Reverse: LT Score board:RS Thats what i have been ising for over 6k hours.. Pretty mechanical. Yet game sence is my suffering. Also im c2/c3 maby 1 day ill be GC.. EST. 2017

You'll get GC. Free Air roll is useful for recovering though, split second uses of it helps throughout matches. I have my RB as boost. X (□) for Left Air roll. My LB is Drift + Free Air roll. These helped me new faster with my movements, took me a few matches to get used to it but for a long time these help minimize how much you need to move your thumbs. That's pretty essential.

Learning directional air roll legit took me at least 100 hours. Probably more. You WILL get pissed off and feel like it doesn't make sense. One day, though, you'll be popping up for an aerial and then instinctively moving your stick around to adjust your directional air roll to point yourself at the ball. It'll happen as long as you keep practicing, and it'll come out of nowhere. It's so weird.

PLEASE HELP ME For years and years I have been trying to learn how to air roll but the thing is I just don’t understand the explanations, they just don’t click. So I have a couple of questions I need to get answered. The first one is imagine I want to move to the right while air rolling, do I only hold my left stick to the right when the car is facing forward or do I also hold the stick to the opposite side (left) when the car is facing backwards??? Another question I have is how do you people move so quickly from like one side to the other when air rolling it’s like you see a ball is far to the left and you just air roll and you reach the ball as quickly as if you weren’t. I feel like when I air roll I take a long time to get to the ball if it is in the air and on the left or right. This might be because I only move my stick when the car is facing forward (to the opposite net) I don’t know if I should move the stick around at all times if I want to move left. If I do have to move the stick around at all times where should I move the stick to when the car is facing at the opposite net and when the car is facing If I want to move left??? Im still having a hard time with air roll too, in the air, you need to make some big adjustments, micro adjustments, and no adjustments. Just straight air roll some times, and you should look at controller cams to see how pro-player make their adjustments. That would help you a lot, and make sure you have good keybinds because that helps with fast aerials. And some times you don't need to air roll, it's just for air car control, if your learning air dribbles and aerials. DONT USE DIRECTIONAL AIR ROLL WHEN LEARNING!!! You will mess up trust me, ive been trying to learn air dribbles for so long. Same with aerials do air roll when you can hit the ball 7/10. Also practice air car control every day for 30mins-2 hours. It will show improvement, I hope i helped!

I’m so confused on when to use an air roll. I can do most workshop maps without hardly doing a full flip. I tap air roll left and right to make small adjustments. A few questions after only an hour or two of practice: 1) What actual situations is learning this skill advantageous? I feel like every situation I try to use it in, I realize I could have very easily hit the ball just doing a normal aerial with joystick air roll. So I guess my question is, when is this the best possible option? 2) Am I supposed to be tilting my joystick the whole time I'm flying, or am I supposed to be making small joystick taps most of the time? 3) Does the direction my car is facing matter? I've seen numerous guides explain how to air roll, but none of them mention that you need to be constantly aware of your car's direction while air rolling, and yet when I'm practicing it seems like I can do the same inputs over and over again and get a wildly different result.

😂😂 I actually thought that to start an air roll, I had to move my joystick in a special motion and combine my air jumps to start the rotation and see if I could somehow perform it randomly during a match just to see if I was getting better at it. Thank you for clarifying that I have to adjust my untouched keybinds/settings. I was gonna adjust my setting eventually but this saved me a large amount of time. Thank you!

You can learn landing cleanly after every goal explosion just aim for the ceiling or the ground and practice that way. Also a good way to learn wave dashes.

That's the adjustment bit that's really important. I'm still learning myself so take it with a grain of salt, but you're supposed to do those rolls till your nose is the direction you need to go and then do regular air rolling. Either by directional air roll with no stick input or manual air roll

I'm new at this game and there are some opponents that use air rolls, but they make a lot of mistakes, still learning a lot I guess as I'm playing in the earlier ranks. I like to defend a lot and it would be nice to better air roll to be able to intercept balls in the air, instead of waiting it to be near the ground. As you improve in levels, it becomes more and more important to have good control in the air I guess. But for this, it's better to do a lot of trainings and to apply it in matches only if you either can't win or loose the match anymore, to avoid loosing ranks or loosing the game for your team mates. I sometimes see players flying around all the time, without ever hitting one ball.

I can air roll and control my car with a tornado spin plus VERY SLIGHT alterations to the position of my left stick to get the nose of the car to tilt slightly left and right... My issue comes when my nose of my car starts to tilt too far left or right OR if the nose tilts even slightly back or forward. I have a serious problem that I can't find anything on. The issue I'm having is stalling out when trying to air roll left. Best way I can explain this when jumping of walls hitting both jump and air roll left causes my car to stall out or delay air roll and it's getting super annoying. For anyone new, one thing that is currently helping me figure out control with tornado spin is the idea that if ur air rolling left, then pushing ur joystick right will turn ur car in the direction of ur hood, so if u are really struggling with understanding how to move ur joystick, I started to understand it better when I purely focused on trying to move my joystick right only when the hood rolled into the direction I wanted to go

I don’t know if anyone else does this don’t call me stupid, but instead of starting and practicing directional air roll if it’s too hard for you, just use your normal air roll in the air and Periodically let go and just aim your left stick in the direction of the ball real quick. Just hold left trigger as needed. You only wanna let go of left trigger for milliseconds at a time when you need adjustments. Same as directional air roll. Just easier

i saw a video talking about the important movements when using directional air roll. like how to move left and how to move right, and that has really helped me so far because it really summarizes all the complex movements into something basic you can practice a ton.

The easiest way i learned directional airoll is to with 50% game speed and focus on your wheels when turning this will help you understand how it's work.

I still use x or square as my air roll and I have done for years, I know for me to progress and get to the next rank I need to change it to be able to compete with others and it’s gonna be really hard to break the habit of using x

okay but can someone explain the point of regular air roll? like, why would i want to use it instead of directional? i only use directional and regular just feels way too weird to me

I made it to champ only knowing directional air roll. However I notice the weaknesses of only knowing directional air roll and there are situations that are becoming increasingly apparent the high up you get in the ranks as more mechanical plays and consistency struggle when you only know directional.

Same aswell! Got to Diamond 3 with just directionals, this is my first time learning about regular air roll lol. I also switched my power slide to the same binding for the first time too. It’s like having to relearn how to play, kinda stinks but oh well.

I got rid of standard air roll and use air roll left and air right left only...is that bad?

I do the same. Im good with directional air roll but i can't control myself with the standard air roll so i just unbinded it.

@@AnnaTheDingus I don't like loosing the left stick direction when it turns.imto controlling the air roll..I like air rolling left and using the left stick as it was attended to be used...feels comfortable to me too

I would also recommend learning to aim your aerials, it's not enough to learn just to hit the ball I see many on the low ranks going for aerials without actually aiming their shots and lead to passes, commits and risky shots that are hard to recover from.
