I barely travel, just once or twice a year. I do feel I get my moneys worth 100% so I use majority of the points as cash with the Charles Schwab version. The 1.1 CPP is sweet, if you also carry the gold card, since both pool points together.

@@YumDex Yeah the 1.1 cpp is a great escape hatch to still get good value from MR points. Did you always have the Schwab, or did you switch over?

@@KevinYang always had the Schwab, I knew from the start I would get a better “ROI” if I started with the Schwab despite the lower bonus. I don’t want to bother a year with the vanilla then switch to Schwab. I rather not run any risk whatsoever. Schwab for the win.

I find Amex points to be super hard to use. One of my least valued points of all the reward cards. The transfers ratios are similar to other premium travel cards, and it is easier to earn points on those other cards (like 3% on restaurants with Chase Sapphire Reserve, or 2% base on the Venture X).

I always remind myself, I don’t have to always get the best redemption value/cpp as long as it fits to my situation. Yes, it is nice to get over 2 cpp but I think depending on your situation for instance you wanna save cash instead of points for your travel then it is no brainer to book your travel with points even if it is lower than the normal 2 cpp.

Couldn't agree more! I would say at least personally, there is a minimum bar I'd prefer to redeem for (and fortunately has always been above that), but the balance between effort vs. value is a key factor to keep in mind!
