I'm a self taught artist, I don't know anything about art and I wanna pursue it. I'm from small town and my school doesn't have art subject so I need to know more about it before I go to University and I don't know where to start

The internet is your best friend! You can go on websites like the bubblegum club to see the art scene now in South Africa, watching videos from other artists and seeing how they work are also good. And keep on creating art! You don't need to "know" a lot before you study it at University, you'll learn more when you get there. For now, just keep creating and seeing what you need to apply for Uni :) (A lot of my friends in Fine Arts never took it in high school and they are really talented so you don't need to worry!)

KZbin is a University for learning... Start here, I'm a self artist too and watching artist do their thing on KZbin has helped me a lot and I can say I know almost everything I need to know... I'm only going to school for certificate 😂😂😂😂

Wow, this is very helpful. I find the portfolio making process so stressful because there are so many mixed messages everywhere. Some people's portfolios are full of writing and don't have titles for the artworks and some are like yours where it's the exact opposite. As someone who never had any formal training in art it's so hard to try and understand what these admissions people want ;")

This is all great advice!!! I still haven't made any portfolios but I've been wanting to do it soon- I mainly do character designs and comic art, so if I brought my art to someone looking for concept art, fine art, etc I wouldn't get it because obviously thats not where I focus on. So if you want a job with character design- include character references and character art, if you want a job for fine art, probably only keep fine art in your portfolio.

I currently have a paid art fellowship that was offered to me by my college after I graduated- it's meant to help me build my portfolio, but I only minored in art and I never thought about portfolios or grad school until now. This is so so helpful, I was drowning in Adobe tutorials trying to figure out where to start!

I love technical studies. Most my art are studies. I just like the act of drawing itself and making things too conceptual takes me out of it. I get my meditation from that path itself. It’s not in the nose, it’s in the artwork, in the rendering of the metal it’s in the thought of the line. The path of design and render. Art is in itself my all and end all. Why reduce it to “concept”?

I just graduated this year at BC, and I could recommend you some art courses (for the future) that I've taken this last two years. -Studio Art 11/12 -Drawing 10/11 -Drawing and Painting 11/12 -Media Arts 10/11 -Photography 12 -Ceramics 11/12 And that's pretty much the art related courses that I know. Of course in Alberta might be different, and you could ask a counselor what art courses you have at school. In terms of psychology courses I have no clue as I did not take any. Hope this helps! ^^

This is a very helpful video!! but I have a lot of questions and I am very confused about how the process works. especially in my case, I am a self-taught traditional artist and I come from a homeschooling background so I have no high school art club/class experience. I'm not a painter but I love to draw and have improved greatly over the years. I would love to get my hands on any information that I can to make my future in the art career easier and improve on any skills I can.

I’m applying for a summer art program in Paris to see if I want to study there in college, but I’m not that knowledgeable about art. This video helped me with making a portfolio but I was wondering, if I had a piece of art I was extremely happy with, but I drew it in a paperback sketchbook, how would I submit that on a pdf portfolio? And is it okay if a piece of art is something I drew from a show because I love the how the character was written and how much I relate to him and his mindset?
@RumboMercy
@RumboMercy Жыл бұрын
Fingers crossed for the program! If you are able to access a printer, I would scan it and then crop the edges to make sure the sketchbook isn’t shown but I’d say add it to the portfolio because of how proud you are of it :)

I want to ask though, what about drawing from observations videos, such as you watch as you draw things that are in colour, does black and white apply on drawing objects which could be a colourful display before you? Thanks buddy.

but i cant just sit and draw whatever i feel because my brain is not used to not see how the final piece would look, so i dont have so many imagination myself. also im self taught, never felt the urge to start doing imaginary art, im a major fanartist and great at copying (no tracing, copying), i can do things from imagination but like fanarts. to sum up, i need something to inspire me (a piece of media, a book, a word, a theme, or sum), and if dont have that i feel like it’s a waste of paper and time, trying to just do (for example i work greatly on inktober and similee, but i just cant do it if not given a theme). so i havent anything “of mine”. how i can unlock myself?

For my digital works in a portfolio, I usually leave out the dimensions and put "Digital illustration" or whatever type of digital work it is :) Unless you plan on printing them, then you could try "digital print" followed by the dimensions of the print you intend to print them in. Hope this helps a bit :)

Hi girl I just comment on your video that was a long time ago but I really want to know if you’re a beginner and you don’t know your art style but you’re really good at painting and certain things like oil painting water painting animations🙏🥹😅 I feel very confused and lost because I don’t know exactly what I want I know this sounds confusing but how do you start
@RumboMercy
@RumboMercy 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I just responded to your other comment teehee. But I want to add that finding your own style takes a loooong time for most (heck, I'm still trying to find mine.) It takes time because you discover it as you make art and look at art that makes you feel something. You definitely do not need to 100% know your art style before you study art. There is no exact recipe to discovering your style. I don't know how to explain it but in my experience, it comes from the work you do over the years, the research you do, personal experiences, etc.
