I want to build an outside bathroom. When my kids, family and friends use my pool, they’ve got to walk through the living room to get to the bathroom. I think something like this would be great.

Be careful with using shingles on low pitch roofs they can leak if your pitch isn’t steep enough. This is more for someone watching as I don’t know what your roof pitch is. It just looked rather flat at the beginning and then it Looked fairly pitched toward the end. Nice build I’ve been thinking of building something like this.
@Stefan-yz5lr

He states at one point of the video that it's a 2/12 pitch, which is the minimum allowed for asphalt shingles. Best practice to use full ice & water shield for underlayment.

Hey Pete, nice little office shed. I'm curious how the setup for the electical works in relation to that outdoor inlet. Is there the equivalent "female" outlet on the inside or did you direct wire it to a panel and set up outlets from the panel? Do you have a video showing both sides of the process?

Hey mate, I'm doing my own project right now for the exact same reason, losing office to kids. Wondering you didn't need vapour barrier inside the structure, and whether you've found that the insulation baffles provide enough ventilation to keep the interior dry/well ventilated. The way that it looks, your insulation baffles don't actually extend into the soffit, so they aren't circulating air in your "attic" area. Not at all criticizing, just asking while doing my own research. I've been worried about ventilation with climate swings in Canada. Appreciate the response

Nice build … the headers are overbuilt for the roof load. Thank you for including the cost as this is always left out of a DIY project. The final cost didn’t include heating/cooling which will make this about a $7k build, which is reflective of material only. Again, nice build and thorough enough details to actual show what it take to build a room and the actual cost, approx. $86 per square foot with heating and cooling. 😎
@DIYPETE
@DIYPETE Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I didn't include everything, but a space heater or small baseboard would do the trick for heating and a wall or window a/c unit would be great for cooling. A mini split would be a bit overkill for this small of a building. Of course there are lots of options. Thanks for the /sq foot breakdown and taking the time to share your insights and feedback. Much appreciated! Cheers Barry!

@DIYPETE Жыл бұрын
Hey Patrick! I hear ya on trying to find good boards. I actually have found that our home depot has the best bunks of wood to pick from. For some reason the 2x4's at the other box store haven't been great lately. But sometimes they are it just depends on what they get in. We also have a couple local lumberyards. I buy my 1x materials there because it is better quality and cheaper ( plus available in longer lengths ).

The insulation is so first world. This aint a budget house. Its a tiny shed. But it must so expensive. Im ignorant about this stuff. I called it stuff. It is impressive though, the skills people have. In places were labor is supposedly cheap, most people dont even know what that drilling machine is called. Those treated lumbers for the floorings are so expensive, if bought in some depot. But it may just be a scam. When i heard on the video, about building communities, i thought of weight watchers, something that only exist in the West. People pay to belong to communities.

I think you are right, it would be overkill. I may get a real small unit and mount it on the back wall as it wouldn't be as ugly as going in a window. I think the mini-split would be a better fit for our 12x20 building. Thanks for the feedback!
