the thing that sucks with box sets for me is that it's pretty much all I get manga from, unless i'm really hyped for a series and I find a volume at a physical store. I can never find them in stock, which is the sad part... hopefully some of the stocking issues get fixed this year so I can finally collect some more manga

Yeah im kinda the opposite on buying. I always start series with singles when they start so when box sets come I have to sell and buy the set or live without the box. But like you said good luck finding them in stock recently. They just need printed non stop!

​@@underkoverist5254four months late but here u go: The setting is basically Alice in Wonderland, the mangaka took heavy inspiration from that story. There are tea parties, mad hatters, alternate dimensions, etc. It's a battle shounen with a really strong, intricate storyline (though it is confusing in the beginning), and a unique power system, once again influenced by AiW. I'd say the three best parts about the story, are themes, plot twists and character writing. PH deals with themes of identity and fate vs free will better than any animanga I've seen, the themes are never shoved down your throat, but always present, and executed to perfection. The plot twists, well PH has the best in anything I've seen hands down, the story is written so well that and the twists are absolutely insane. Lastly, the characters, PH has one of the best casts in animanga imo. The mangaka takes time to develop not only the MC and main antagonist, but pretty much every side character, and it works. It doesn't feel forced, the characters fit into the story, while also getting their own motivations, inner conflicts and trials. It goes deep into the thoughts of each character, and makes them feel real, you can understand them so deeply. PH is actually a masterpiece, and I hope this comment convinces you to give it a read (if you even see it lol)

FYI, the "open" box set is called a slipcase set and that box of course is called the slip case. It was first made popular in comicdom with The Sandman comics by Neil Gaiman.

I tried looking for the Fullmetal Alchemist box set. It seems to be out of stock for quite awhile. My local comic book shop does not have it. The hardcover versions are pretty nice, I might as well get those.

Yep, go for the fullmetal editions, the quality is just so much higher and they fix minor errors such as the little mistakes in changing japanese to english, in the original manga it was called, "the ishvalan war", but it should have been, "the ishBalan war".

@@Mee959 that’s up to you. Personally I think the Anime is better simply because there is so much detail put into the environment. The manga, at least what I’ve read of it, doesn’t share that trait. If you want to experience the story in its original form then it’s a good read but you won’t find anything new that you haven’t seen in the anime. Although from a collectors standpoint the boxset looks gorgeous on a shelf!

I've bought box sets when it works out cheaper than buying singles but then I take the mangas out and put on the shelf. Now I've got empty boxes which I keep thinking about throwing away. Box sets are so random that they are too hard to display as you get the normal ones like Demon Slayer which has all volumes in a row which I could put on my book shelf but then you got the Naruto and Claymore with their multi tier awkwardness.

This was an epic video!!! Very informative!! I haven't seen that Akira boxed set before and that's really cool how it opens! I thought about getting the Ouran Host boxed set, but the one I found was in the $200s and was bummed by that. I'm not sure how hard to find the singles are, but that's such a steal to get that for $69!! Again, this is an epic video and really good way of how you broke it down!

i only own two box sets, the a silent voice box set and the first box set of bleach, which btw i just got done reading that last volume of it and oh man i can’t tell you how much i really want the second box set right now

Yeah box sets tend to do that which stinks. Just keep an eye out for restocks and reprints then nab one for a good price if you can wait.

Waifu & I surprisingly only have one box set in our collection - Buddha by Osamu Tezuka and we only picked it up as we found it for a very good price used! We do also have a "box set" of Speed racer that just has the two volumes in a sealed box together. But yeah we have mostly stayed away from the box sets but I think we would like to buy the One Piece ones one day - I have confidence they will restock over and over because its such a popular series. - jerry

OP will keep getting reprinted forever probably haha. I dont get box sets much since I usually get series 1 volume at a time. But I do trade in and also get fancy sets etc.
