This is GOLD! Thanks. When I imported SVGs that turned out to be complicated groups, I would just give up and use Blender to make the SVG files 3D. Thanks for this.

This is amazing work Jake, thank you for showing how this can be done. I really hope that BM makes some serious updates and investments into vector-based workflows in fusion soon because we SHOULD NOT need to do this. It's way too much work and it makes Fusion a frustrating tool compared to After Effects. But regardless.. a solid tutorial bud 👏👏

I think the legacy of where they came from is why this is the case. I agree by the way. However After Effects was primarily designed to be motion graphics tool so that is where it has strength, but not really good for complex VFX and compositing work. While Fusion originally competing with Shake and Nuke for VFX comes from what background and is much better in the world of VFX. Unlike Nuke, Fusion has actually very good motion graphics ability, in many ways rivaling After Effects while still retaining its VFX background. I think since now Nuke dominates VFX industry because of contracts and VFX pipeline integrations, and Fusion has been bought by BlackMagic and added to the Resolve.... probably will see more investment in the motion graphics feature set. We have seen introduction of shapes and extrude and other tools in recent versions, something that is not native to Fusion of the past. So its nice to see Blackmagic giving importance to that, since so many are moving away from Adobe subscription system and looking for replacement for After Effects and Premier.

Thanks for those historical tidbits, that actually does help understand why things are organized the way they are. Seems like DR is a mish-mash of apps that Blackmagic has acquired over the years--which I think is why the audio page is called the "Fairlight" page.@@KrunoslavStifter

instead of copying and pasting, you can also use the Connect to... command in the context menu of the shape animation. just 1. add a keyframe to the regular Polygon; 2. remove the keyframe from the sPolygon and 3. connect them to the Polygon animation. after that, you can just remove the animation and the shape will have been "converted". there's also no need to sTransform them into the correct aspect ratio, you can (and should 😅) set the correct resolution in the sRender node, just like Fusion did automatically in the bg node

i do love your trick to open it in code, though. might just make a script for it 😄

Hi Bruno, could you be more specific (for us newbies). on what you’re suggesting. For example, where in Davinci’s Fusion page do I find:“Connect to…command in the context menu of the shape animation”. Etc. Including “add a keyframe to the regular Polygon etc, etc… Ideally, Jake, can you do an updated video incorporating Bruno’s method… Since Bruno’s method will simplify the process, I’m sure all of us would appreciate a video update. Thanks, Rowby.

Great Vid. BM has to make this usable. Most of projects have very complex vector graphics, and this still isn't a useable workflow. Hate to give Adobe any cred, but they still have a massive advantage in AE for this stuff

Great tutorial. Only issue I'm having is my SVG requires the background node to be able to display the SVG. If I delete the background node, then the SVG wouldn't display in the edit section of DVR. I couldn't find a sBackground, my sPolygons and sMerges wouldn't connect to a regular background node, and I need the background node to display anything.

Hey! Check out my video on the Vector System of Davinci Resolve. That explains how all of the shape nodes (sPolygon) work. Pretty much you need to use a sRender before you connect it to a Background node

@@JakeWipp Weird. I'm on the same version of 18.6. This time I created two sPolygon nodes manually by clicking on the tools from DVR, connected to a sMerge and then manually created a sTransform but could not connect the line to the sTransform from the sMerge.
@kodekorp2064 Жыл бұрын
@@JakeWipp Only thing I noticed is, the transform node is actually not purple like the rest. I'm still new to DVR, so Idk how you pulled up that shortcut comment for the sTransform node. I manually clicked the transform node icon and it gave me a orange version or by right clicking for the tools on the grid.

@@JakeWipp I got it. I needed to go under the "shapes" option to create the non traditional "transform".

You spend a minute explaining the advantage of vector graphics, which nobody needs if they are looking for SVG import. But you skip what would have been really important. Where did you import SVG and how? Somewhere in Fusion. Unfortunately, that's all I could find out.
