Great tutorial! I was able to get all the way until the 15:18 mark with ease. When I went to try to take the roller out, it won’t. I’m not sure if it’s because I have the Maker 1. The bar is so long that I’m not even able to wiggle it out or anything. Have you worked on any Maker 1, and if so, how did you get the roller bar out?
@AnotherMaker
@AnotherMaker 10 ай бұрын
When you slide the bar to the right, does it actually start to come out the side of the machine or is the hole on the power button side just a tiny bit smaller than the rod? I've had to do a little bit of filing on one to just get a burr out of the way and then the rod slid through on the right.

@@AnotherMaker I had this exact same problem and had to file the hole (the plastic surrounding the hole was too small) on the right side so I could slide the bar far enough in order to get it out!

Same here got stuck on 15:25 part . The rod on this maker 1 is too long it does have wiggle room but not enough to take out the whole metal bar

This was an amazing tutorial!! My husband and I worked through it step by step and everything went so smoothly!! A note on the clip for the roller bar that is behind the gear - my husband wanted to try to put it in, so we were both looking at it and saw that neither his fingers nor mine, nor the needle nosed pliers were going to fit to hold it while we pushed it into place. I happened to look over at my Cricut weeding tools and saw the pair of tweezers and handed them to my hubby. They held the clip perfectly in place and he pushed it down with the weeding hook very easily. No leftover parts!! :-) Thank you so much for filming this repair!

Yeah. That was a really really dumb decision. The old rollers lasted for 5+ years without issue on my Air2. These lasted a year and were a pain to change.

Mine went and because I had it for7 years they couldn’t replace but they offered me10% off for another one on their site. 10% ain’t much for what those cost but it’s something. I’m waiting for prime day to see if I can get an even better deal. I wish I can take it to someone to fix for me but they said no.

This was an awesome video that helped me replace the rollers on my Cricket. This was the only video that showed me how to do the very first step, getting the strip off the top, with the newer crickets where the strip is glued down. All the wires, springs, clips were expertly described both in removing and when putting them back in place. I fixed it myself- no husband needed thanks to this video. There were some areas that were quite difficult, but his video gave me the confidence that I could do it. Thank you so much!!!

Thank you for the detailed and amazing tutorial! Took hours as I ended up having to drill out a bit of the plastic on the right side hole holding the roller bar to get it out. I had also bought the tight fitting rollers, which I managed to get positioned on the bar after heating them on the bar with a hair dryer and putting some silicone fluid on the roller bar. I'd love to have a conversation with the Cricut machine designers.........

I had to come and leave you a message; it sounds just like everyone else's but still! Having tried all the temp hacks on those roller pads and seeing them eventually stop working, I knew there were only 2 options; throw my 4 year old, still in excellent shape Cricut away, or take it apart. I'm a trainer by trade and know a good one when I see one. Yours is the ONLY one that anyone should ever use. It took me awhile to gather the right tools and those screws underneath were a bear (kept remembering your statement of 'be in a good mindset', haha) The springs weren't a problem, only the last one when putting back together. BUT, I got it and I have so much gratitude as well as pride at being able to undertake something like this. Never afraid of anything techy, this was still pushing the envelope for me. However, it worked! Honest to goodness, thank you. Thank you, thank you.

Thank you, AnotherMaker. I'm almost done using your guide, and I couldn't have done it without you :) I also had trouble removing the roller bar, but I used a little lube, and wiggled the bar to the upper part of the hole, which seemed a little larger. Also, I ran intro trouble putting the cover back on. Instead of turning the unit over, I put the machine on the edge of the table with 2 feet hanging off. That way, I could screw at least 2 bottom screws in place without wrecking the alignment. Then turned the machine to do the other side the same way. Not flipping the machine worked better for me.

Great guidance! Great video! Saved the day!! My Maker had an issue with one of the roller positions. Performed all steps and discovered that the rubber roller and it corresponding metal roller had become gummed up with adhesive and push the right rubber roller off registration. Cleaned knurled metal roller well with an x-acto knife. I found that by using a little dish soap and water I could lubricate the shaft at the rubber roller and move it back into position. (Sort of like putting on handlebar grips on a bike). Reassembled and all is working great again! Thanks for giving me the confidence to fix it myself!!

Thank you for such a well detailed video on replacing the rubber rollers on Cricut machines! This is probably the best detailed one I have seen. I'd like to add a few tips that will help others in this endeavor: 1. My Cricut Maker definitely requires a T-9 driver for the lid screws. I have seen other videos and even comments here that had/have the same info. Owners should be aware that it may be either T-9 OR T-10 --- Either way, it surely seems just an attempt by the manufacturer to stymie owners from DIY repairs. 2. You may want to show a more clear view of which way those angled posts/tabs face on the underside of the flat plastic cover of the top lid hinge. If you attempt to put it back on with the piece turned the wrong direction . . . well, let's just say it don't work. 3. You are spot on with your description of placing the body/cover back in place and aligning those slats/tabs... ALL of those slats/tabs! I thought ours was properly placed twice, but when I had put the bottom four AND the seven top-underside screws back, replaced the lid on the hinge and closed the lid for inspection, both the first and second attempts had the center section of the back of the body bowed out. I tell you, removing and replacing those seven underside screws just doesn't get any more fun with practice! The third time, it just seemed to fit like a glove when I placed the body back on and the four long screws even seemed to go in smoother too. 4. There IS an easier way to replace those tension springs! Really easier than trying to hold a tiny portion of spring metal tightly and stretching beyond your gripping strength. First, make sure to put the end of the spring that is "more closed up" on to the bottom, or arm, connection FIRST. Then, using a very small flat blade screwdriver, the smaller the better, slide its blade through the opposite spring opening. Let the spring slide down the screwdriver shaft some -- perhaps an inch and a half, but not too far as you don't want to stretch the spring beyond recover. Now place the flat blade just into the tab slot for the spring. You want the screwdriver blade just a tiny bit through the tab/slot width. (I hope this makes sense -- you don't want it so close to the edge that it will slip off, but you also don't want it extended too far beyond the tab; which will make keeping the spring in its place more difficult when removing the screwdriver.) While lifting the screwdriver handle, slide the spring up to the slot where it is to go. As you continue lifting the screwdriver keep pushing the spring over the tab for the slotted position for the spring. It may not happen perfectly on your first attempt (although, I have NEVER had this method fail), but if you pay attention to where the spring opening is facing and keep the spring as close to the tab/slot as possible, it will be in place before you know it. I've used this method since I was about age 14 (now 70) and the whole process takes about 3 seconds. You're welcome.

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation, especially for the recommended tools for those of us who are beginners. Regarding the difficult portion in which you need to work with screws inside the cricket body: If you don’t have a small socket wrench, you can always hold a drill bit in place with your fingers and use a pair of snub nosed pliers to break the screws loose and/or tighten them into place. The trickiest part of this job for me was the roller removal. I found that the inner plastic layer of the roller hole on the power switch side was not aligned with the metal hole of the cricket frame. It looked like a manufacturing defect and it made removal of the bar impossible because the upper part of that hole is supposed to be larger than the lower part. I used a small strip of sandpaper to sand down the plastic and widen the hole which allowed the bar to be removed. Other than that, I’d recommend some very fine nosed curved tweezers. They helped with removing and attaching the circlips and grabbing dropped screws.

@ 3:17 you removed a spring. Later you put that spring in the wrong location during reassembly @ 23:11 You put that spring on the wrong secure point. I know it looks like the correct placement but IT IS NOT back where it was removed from! Perhaps that stamped metal frame is used for multiple models and utilizes that "hook" in other designs but NOT in this Maker3 model.

I've been dealing with stretched out rollers on my Cricut Maker for about the past year. (I bought the Maker in May of 2020). My Cricut gets a lot of use. After a long online chat with Cricut support, the best I could get out of them was a $50 promo code toward a new one. I finally set time aside and decided to tackle this. I did end up needing a T9 instead of a T10. I bought the type of rollers you have to soak in hot water, but despite that, they are nearly impossible to get on the rollers by hand. I found boiling them for a minute in the microwave and then immediately putting them on the roller will get them ON the roller. I then used an 11mm wrench (the circle side, not the C-shaped side) to jiggle the roller into position with ease. It worked like a charm. I did need a right angle screwdriver for the 7 screws and I used a small mirror to be able to see the 3 hidden ones. I can't say how long it took as I worked on it as I had spare time over a couple of days, but I'm guessing between 1 to 2 hours. I was not able to put the tiny C-clamp back on the motor side of the Cricut (left side) but it seems to do fine without it. I'm using my Cricut again with ease for the first time in a long time and it's working beautifully. Could not have done it without this video. I watched several before attempting this project and this was the most helpful. Thanks so much! I am hoping in later models, Cricut gets off their proprietary bandwagon and designs a machine with an easy-to-pop-out roller bar so that the rubber rollers can be replaced with ease. It is absolutely ridiculous that the machine has to be disassembled to this level to replace a part that wears over time. It is also absolutely ridiculous that they would expect consumers to contribute to landfills when they trash their Cricuts over such a simple thing. Or that they should be expected to spend $400+ to replace a machine that needs a $10 part.

Excellent tutorial!!! Aside from the top - which seems a big different - how similar are the remaining steps for the Cricut Explore Air 2? Have to do a roller replacement... Thanks!

I've never had the rollers fail on the Explorer Air 2. We had 2 of them and it was never an issue. I would imagine they're pretty similar, but I don't know for sure

This was very helpful, thank you. The only thing I messed up was putting the cover back on. While trying to align it properly I forgot to mind the wires on the power side and nearly (thank god just nearly) messed them up.

After hours of working on this, I successfully replaced the rollers and the Cricut works like it always did. Now just need to calibrate. It took a very long time. More time putting it back together (left circlip was challenging along with the hard rollers I bought, not to mention the hidden screws at the top of the machine) but with tenacity and patience, I did it. Oh, and I prayed first too. 😊 If you bought the hard rollers, you will have to boil those directly in the microwave for 5 to 10 minutes. Also, I saw in one of the posts that the left circlip was not needed, but my personality would not allow me to move on without that. I ended up taking the circlip and spring back off the right side and did the left side first. That helped as I could push the roller bar to the left more to push it out more on the left, along with walking away for a bit. Although challenging and not for the faint of heart, it can be done. I am not ready to fork out money right now for a new machine. But when I am it will most likely be Siser Romeo or Juliet. Good luck!

This video is the best I've seen here on YT but it would be a great idea to add a little comment about the left circlip not being needed as I had to search comments for your response to someone else. That was time consuming as you have many comments thanking you. I, in turn, thank you.

Thank you so much for this guide!!! So so helpful!! But damn what a process! I feel like I could sue Cricut for emotional damages, and I’m pretty sure my kids learned a few new curse words- I think I even invented some! lol you weren’t kidding about those springs flying QUICK, and what was with all the wet glue?! All that being said, my cricut is working again and I’m very grateful for this video 🤗 Oh! Just wanted to share this in case it helps anyone else, the door panel on mine was also glued to the actual door itself on both ends. That was the part keeping it really stuck for my machine. I took a scraper and lodged it in between then gently tapped it with a hammer towards the edge, like a chisel. Did that on both sides and it popped right off!

Amazing tutorial!!! Just fixed my wife's unit in 1-1/2 hours (needed better prying tool). I'm a nearly 20-year veteran of repairing and programming surface mount machines (fixing/training robots that make circuit boards), and this video has better directions than I get from the training classes from the manufacturers for my robots!😅😂

I followed the instructions, was able to change the rubber, following also the pinned comment (filing a little of the hole). However, got a new problem, I must have done something wrong during the disassembly. My cricut won’t load my mat, it just keeps on blinking white and doesn’t respond when I click the load button. 😢 I contacted Cricut and they said it might be a button problem and they can’t replace the machine as it is out of warranty. Anyone encountered the same issue or know how to resolve this?

I wish I would have watched your video first. I watched another video and now that I’ve put it back together it pulls the mat in fine but as soon as it’s about to cut, the thing that cuts goes all the way over to the right as if it’s stuck there and my light starts flashing purple. There’s a message on my computer that says critical error-45, 85 and nothing works

Hoping someone has a suggestion. Everything is perfect...except the bar with new rollers will not roll. My husband and I have figured out that if we detach the two tension springs and hold them taught but not under tension it will work. If we push mat in super hard under tension it will intermittently work. I did use the harder plastic rollers (heated to 170). Has anyone had this happen? Should I get the other rollers....or ??? Thanks in advance.

I think that was also a common problem with Cricuts. My wife had one like that and Cricut replaced it. It wasn't the rollers, it was some gear related problem. They actually did a software bricking of her existing one and sent her a new one, so it must be pretty common.
@TheTubejunky

I would guess like a CNC machine the GEARS need to be REALIGNED EXACTLY how they were REMOVED when removing that motor. I marked mine prior. As there is a "HOME" function in CNC machines and most likely in the programing with these geared motors. Take for example the OPTICAL ENCODER (clear plastic wheel on the motor) that is used to indicate to the microprocessor WHERE the motor is when running. So It would NATURALLY need to know it's ORIGINAL starting position so as to not "OVER RUN" it's limits and break the machine.

Did step by step exact 2x. When complete, when lower rollers roll to feed the new top rollers and bar that was removed doesnt roll.

Gears misaligned? IS the shaft bearing down on the smaller gear on the motor side? Those clips are there for a reason and that's one of them. unless you bought the cheap 3d printed "replacements" that are hard plastic and don't come in contact wit the knurled drive spindles/wheels on both sides of the hidden shaft. (The ones the rubber should be in contact with)

Thank you so much, this video was fantastic! So glad I didn't have to buy a new Cricut!! I was following along with this in addition to another PDF guide I found so I could have both the static and in-motion instructions. One thing I noticed from the PDF guide was they specified where to put the spring back that goes above the motor. I went back on yours and it does look like you removed it from a different spot (on the same bracket as the motor) from where you put it back (the hook above the bracket). Not sure if it matters just a heads up! Edit: My husband is 100% sure he removed it from the hook and looking at other videos some are on the hook, and some start on the bracket. So maybe it just depends on the model?

Hmm. I'll have to go back and look at some footage. I did 3 that day and although they were all "Makers," there were subtle differences between them. There's also a slight chance that shot was from a different machine. There were one or 2 where I got my head in the way, so I used the footage from an earlier machine. Either way, people should put it back from where they got it :)
