I have a hard time saying no when I feel like I'll be disappointing people (particularly friends who ask for even unreasonable favors). But I'm realizing saying no and creating some healthier boundaries leaves me more balanced and less frazzled/overwhelmed. I also then say yes with joy when the time is right, instead of resenting them and myself for not saying no when I should've. Altogether, this is still a learning process, but saying "no" sometimes is actually making me a *better* friend.

The most tricky situation to say 'No' for me is when I don't want to go to religious meetings because I can't tell my parents as they will worry about me extremely to a point where their stress can cause physical illness to them. Also when I just feel like work load is just too much and my relaxing and entertainment period of the day is threatened. The area of my life which will improve dramatically if I say 'No' more often will be my spiritual and self independence as I will be able to do whatever spiritual practice I feel like without being obligated to do a certain one and without being always intimidated into believing a certain religion each sermon. That will also increase my self confidence to a great degree.

I've told my mom no to Dionne religious activities for the past 6 months. She had been paying hard for me lol but i just keep declining. She thought something was wrong with knee since I used to be super involved....

Funny enough, I usually find it hard to say no in situations I know I should, so I'm talking about when you know you shouldn't do something but still do it or the other way around. Lovely video, thank you, Marie!

I think in Mexico there's a strong culture that is so hard to say "No", if you say it, you're potentially closing yourself some doors in the future, they will not even ask you next time... but still most of people don't fully say "Yes" when asked and, even if later they do a poor job on the task or do nothing at all, is not so bad as if you have said "no" when you were asked. I guess what I'm trying to say here is that from my perspective is easier to say "Sorry, I let you down on that" to say "No, I'm not interested" right at the beginning.

I'm personally someone who needs to create boundaries, so it's more empowering for me to say NO than YES. So, I'd suggest, it's a personal decision based on our own personalities, and knowing one's self!

The most challenging situation, for me, is to say no to family and friends. I don´t want to desappoint or make them feel sad, so I prefer to say no to myself and my needs, than say no to the others. It´s not healthy I know, but I still can´t change it. Sometime I will get there.

Sometimes it's hard to say NO to some request (a job of which you won't be paid) that is in line with your passion and interest, but that you need to sacrifice your time and energy (thus abandoning your job for this opportunity). So when I have these requests, I just say YES in the name of charity and the fact that it might never happen/come again.

His boss also has quite an ego (not open to new suggestions)..I'll see if any of these suggestions will help him out. Thanks! 💗

Saying ‘no’ to my in-laws... personally I can do it with ease but my partner wants to be the one to communicate to his parents which makes getting my message to them too complicated & stressful because he is extremely afraid of hurting their feelings.

I said NO to a relationship with my cousin. I explained everything when she found out after I blocked her from my social media, it just to hurtful when she needed my attention she will immediately get it even when my mother was ill and needed care. I still spared her time on the day she called me. When I needed her to be there for me like my father funeral she didn't even had the command sense to meet me at the funeral cremation or called to said sorry she cannot make it because of work.

I always love Marie's insight and I don't think it's a woman's job to always be perfectly fashionable.. that said, since she has time to always have her hair curled/styled, I think she would look more chic with a long bob or another shorter haircut ... love the skirt though (I'd probably pair with a grey top or a neutral instead of another shade of purple but it's still pretty)

Aamir Afzal I'M SORRY that you live in a strict environment. Many people also say NO to me even if I have very valid reasons. BUT I REBELLED ANYWAY. Sometimes, all it takes is COURAGE even if your family hates you, as long as you do what you think in your heart and mind, is RIGHT FOR YOU.

Kris Liao Get a new job. Or say you have a new opportunity you are thinking about. Start negotiating with your boss about the benefits and consequences of not doing overtime. Be honest, though. If you have no job opportunities, don’t lie.

I wonder what you think of Sir Richard Branson...he has the theory or practice of yes...it's positive, gets things done, is motivating, and can be inspirational. I've heard Buffet's "no" theory before...but I feel SRB is just as successful, and I like YES! ....thoughts anyone?

I'm currently in a stage of learning and my class is also a team. This video really comes in handy, because we have the option of not being part of a certain activity, which I'm starting to really reconsider because there's a huge lack of communication and little groups going on their own instead of talking it out as a TEAM. The problem here is to say "No" and go through an essay and an exam instead of being part of the activity, especially when the activity is really important for the whole team. One of my classmates chose to not do it and now the teachers and some classmates see her in another light, but there's a really valid reason for her not to participate, which is the lack of communication between everyone and even the lack of time we all have to create the activity. I have no idea how to say "No" when everyone else might see me in a bad light. :(

Try saying no when you're a graphic designer like me, and your mother's friend keeps perstering me to make stuff for him. Because they both think I don't have my life together and I can apply services they deem good for me. They refuse to hear me. They refuse to respect my 'no's'. How the hell do I keep saying no to this?
