I grew up shopping used, and really enjoy the hunt for something good! I appreciate seeing how others approach the subject. I definitely start with fiber content and go from there.

Hi Mariola - another wonderfully crafted video and very inspiring. I am an avid second hand shopper and absolutely love uncovering gems! I often think during the day about the outfit I am wearing and count up the pieces that are second hand! Another item I love to buy is second hand bags - I actually have quite a lot but it is lovely to have a wide range to choose from depending on what I am doing for the day. It is a wonderful pastime because you are buying what is already made and adding a whole new life to it by styling it your way 😊

Great video, Mariola! I'm envious of those who have secondhand shops that carry good quality vintage clothes in their area. The ones near me all seem to carry fast fashion junk!

I love going to second hand shops. Growing up my mother would find some great items and would tailor them to fit us and also stitch and fix items to make them look new. I like taking an afternoon and just dedicate it to browsing my favorite shops.

Great video! Lots of my favorite things are from second hand stores. Some people have such a 💎 in their closets and once they do a declutter other people will get lucky! I’m actually currently bringing lots of clothes to a place near me and hoping to find some good items for me too! I had a baby and my style and size has changed so I need a new persona. Saying bye to some of amazing good quality is sad, but hope someone find them and give them love too!

Love secondhand, so nice that you put it together. Half of my wardrobe is secondhand. I own peeerfect Calvin Klein jeans and Longchamp crossbody bag, love them❤ I also try to buy sports clothes secondhand, it is made of polyester and I just can't buy new polyester. We also moved to Sweden a couple of years ago with only 2 suitcases and I bought a lot of home stuff secondhand, it is cheaper and I like old plates, they are so cute and every piece is unique. I am writing this from my secondhand couch😂

Vintage shopping in London is a dream. I live in Frankfurt, Germany, and we have some interesting vintage and charity shops too, but it is difficult to find something, either the shops are frumpy or very expensive. Thank you for your super interesting video. 🥰

I live right next door to the Goodwill store. I don't buy clothes for myself much, but I buy for my son a lot of amazing things, some of them designer brands, and some still with original tags. Also, most of my furniture came from there. I just recently bought a rich brown leather sofa in almost perfect condition, just needed a good cleaning and polishing. This video gave me some good ideas on how to shop for myself. I love thrift stores. ❤.

Really useful advice!. I have been shopping second hand for the last year and have been having so much fun! Have found some amazing pieces, tremendous values. The few mistakes I have made have not been costly (and as you pointed out, I have the option of re-selling them on consignment.) It allows for a little more experimentation, which is great, too.

I am a long-term secondhand shopper and a volunteer in a charity shop. I agree with all your advice! The only difference is that I live in Australia, a warm-weather climate, and so don’t have much luck finding secondhand coats. I wish menswear trousers fit my body shape. I see such great trousers!

I’m lucky to have recently found two pairs of men’s trousers that fit, men’s shirts are usually better quality also👍

I agree London is a really good place for pre-loved clothes and accessories. I don't know south of the river very well but in north London there are good charity shops in Belsize Park, Muswell Hill, Crouch End, St John's wood and Upper St Islington.

Such a good video. So many examples help a lot. An excellent reminder that I must LOVE the piece (and how it looks on me.) I now take photos of it on me before I purchase. It’s also good that you mentioned second hand to try a new color or style. I’ve saved money this way!

I bought a Margaret Howell wool and cotton trench coat from Vinted for £100. I’ve never seen one as beautiful in the shops and people always compliment me on it. I was so lucky to find it, even in the most beautiful, flattering taupe colour. It was destined to be mine and I will wear and love it forever! Another great, useful video - thank you, Mariola! xx

I live in Eden on the far south coast of NSW and I have found some fab pieces in the Anglicare here as well as the Salvos at Merimbula, whole outfits of gorgeous stuff. Keep trying, I’ve switched my wardrobe to 80/20 second hand/new and I’m so excited! Lol Have a good one! 🧚♀️❤️🐝🇦🇺

Thank you for a very thoughtful and detailed video. I wish there were more options to buy clothes second hand in my city. I am English and have always bought a lot of my clothes second hand in the UK, especially when I was at University. However I’ve lived in Barcelona for 12 years and it’s only very recently that this is becoming a thing here. The few second hand shops that I do know of, Humana and shops like that, are full of polyester fast fashion items mainly and I cannot find anything good quality. There is also nothing near where I live which makes it quite challenging as I have to be going across the city for a particular reason to shop there, but there is a real lack of these shops and they’re very disorganized and like a jumble sale! I miss charity shopping 😢❤️

My wardrobe now is at least 75% secondhand. As I find high quality pieces, it helps refine my new purchases, as well. Secondhand shopping can be so fun! Most of mine is online, but I have started visiting local shops more too. Sizing is sometimes difficult with in-person shopping. Curation something means limited sizing.

Mariola what size are the stradivarious jeans? I like the looser jean look, but tend to buy jeans mine too tight. I don't want to keep making that mistake so it's helpful to know the size you get as a guide. I live in a small town so we don't have many second-hand shops...you're very lucky. I've shopped second-hand a lot during my life and love it. Thank you.

hello my Dear, thank you for your comment. Shopping second hand is so much fun, but I know it’s hard in smaller cities or certain countries. We are very lucky in London, indeed😊 My jeans are a size 38 and as you can see they are very loose. I’m planning to take them to my tailor and ask for 2 pleats at the back (above pockets) just like she did in my off-white COS jeans and now they fit like a glove.

As always, a captivating and informative video. ❤️ The Stradivarius jeans look fabulous! I’m searching for this pair on Vinted. Could you please share the size you got, the material, and whether they have a back tag labeled D92? They look like the model: D92 STRAIGHT WIDE
@SlowDownInStyle2 ай бұрын
Hello My Dear, thank you so much for you sweet comment. Yes these are the D92, size 38. It’s a 100% cotton. I don’t have the label anymore, but I kinda remember it was straight wide😊

I love thrift shops and have founds some amazing clothes. I have given up thrifting up as I buy to much. It’s the thrill of the treasure hunt, the scarcity of the found object. Although I had fabulous finds, many many things have gone back to charity. This all worked out well, but now it’s time to stop! Sometimes I do go to real shops so I can choose exactly the colour and size I want. Generally I buy better quality in thrift shops though!

With the silk, be careful if vintage silk. I have a number of vintage / antique kimonos, and I tried to handwashing one in cold water and totally ruined it….. 😢😢 so be careful with old silk.

I used to buy second hand toys for my grandchildren at a charity shop in my town, but it closed. I found a charcoal grey wool and cashmere coat for my husband there. We only paid $15.00! There are no vintage clothes shops near me. I would have to travel into the city and I do not like going there due to parking.

You said the lining has to be for ex acetate, isnt it plastic / not breathable?.
@beverlynorris5573 ай бұрын
It is made from wood pulp.
@SlowDownInStyle3 ай бұрын
No no, acetate is a man made fabric, which means it comes from cellulose (wood pulp) and it’s chemically treated. It’s soft and breathable and is often used as a cheaper alternative to silk☺️
@yap48083 ай бұрын
@@SlowDownInStyle oohh ok.thanks. I always thought it was synthetic 😅.
@SlowDownInStyle3 ай бұрын
haha, no worries, it is a bit confusing, especially that different sources call it different things; some websites say its synthetic and some man-made or half synthetic. Its “breathability” is also in dispute, but I find more articles supporting my opinion that it is in fact a breathable material 😊
