To anyone saying "Georgia is just christian dagestan/Arabia", honestly, thanks for undermining 3000+ years of history and culture, these videos you see here will not even give you 1% of understanding of Georgian culture, its unique and has nothing similar on the planet. To really understand it you have to either be Georgian or live for many years here and have a lot of connection between all generations and kinds of Georgians.

I had the most amazing time in Georgia 7 years ago, was lucky to meet the right people who were insanely hospitable, you can definently date there. Everyone seem very cold, no smiles like you said but once you get to know them they are super friendly

Well, that's because Georgians don't like to fake their emotions. If you feel neutral to somebody you don't yet not, then you don't fake your smile and draing enerrgies by faking and just express what you feel. Unlike in the West, when everybody seems extremely friendly with their fake smiles but when between two "best friends" one of them needs something from the other they instantly disappear. Or, friends of one night, when someone fakes to being your new friend and next morning "I don't remembe you" hahahah that is the truth my friend. Maybe a Georgian doesn't always smile, but when he/she smiles at you consider him as your new LONG TERM REAL TOP BEST FRIEND, unlike in Europe/the west, where you're my best friend the same moment i meet you by me fake smiles (and your fake smiles also, cuz here everyone faking) and tomorrow when you call me i dont even know who tf you are, or when you ask me for help i dont remember you.. yeah, I incline towards the Georgian "no smile" nature rather than fakes. by your comment I am sure you will understand me. in reality everyone understand this, but somehow westerner societies are funcutoning on fakery, you know this. EMPTY SMILES. OH no, thank you, better dont smile at me rather than fake smile at me.

I know two people who went to Georgia and were treated incredibly well. The reason was because they were a "guest" of someone during the course of their entire stay. One person went there with a Georgian life-long friend. So, I think you have to have an "in." But the shopkeepers and sellers were not overly friendly. So, I think your experience is par for the course. Also, I would think that the tensions are high right now due to the influx of people from russia which among other things raised the cost of living for the locals. P.S. This was an eye-opening video because it seems like when it comes to Georgia, YMMV.

There's no tension. Those russians in Georgia have run from Russia because they are against the war and Putin. They found Georgia as shelter. Lots of them actually volunteer in organisations that help Ukrainian refugees. As a russian myself I know what I'm talking about. I came to Georgia right after the war started, the small hotel I lived for 5+ months was full of Ukrainians, Russians, Belarusians and we all got along well. Of course it was very important to reveal your position on this war and wether you support it or not, but after making this clear there were no problems. We became good friends ever since. It's not the passport that makes you a good or bad person, but your deeds and attitude towards other people.

@@user-lx3dn9bt9e You want a political response? OK. I believe the Georgians can decide for themselves whether or not there is tension with the "good Russians" and they can voice own point of view. Georgia is a sovereign country which has been continuously occupied by russia for 15 years. Why were the good russian quiet during all of this time? By the way, has Navalny ever apologized for calling them rodents or nah? We also know that many who fled are not against the war. They were perfectly ok with the war In February, March, April, May, June, July, August, most of September so long as someone else was doing the killings. They fled only after the partial mobilization was announced and had the means to save their butt (but who will "save" your country if you all flee en masse? ) and there are many stories of these men removing the "Z" swastika from their cars on the border. And through a very trusted friend, I know how these fleeing Russians acted in Georgia in the fall. Today, I also came across a "for rent" ads for properties owned by Russians in Georgia who exclude Georgians from consideration. But coming from russia, I am sure you are familiar with these ads. And if it was not clear before, I am a Ukrainian-American, who is following the war incredibly closely; so, I am not your target audience. I know too much.

Georgia is very hospitable country but when you speak Russian there, when you expect to be hugged & welcomed, don’t forget two wars in two decades the country suffered, thanks to Russia. Every person processes trauma differently and lot of people in Georgia are scarred. Especially the youth - most of them witnessed the war in 2008 & recent events in Ukraine show there is no end to this, so they are re-victimized. I would not judge the speed by which each person processes trauma. There is lot of healing that various generations have to go though in Georgia, thanks to Russia.

That's is correct. I know of someone Ukrainian who recently went to Georgia for a vacation. They are native Russian speakers and they are very pro-Ukraine. To distinguish themselves from the russians due the language they would be using, they were wearing the colors of the Ukrainian flag - blue and yellow as a bracelet. I think that (as well as going there with a Georgian) allowed them to have a pretty positive travel experience. I noticed that Marina's subscriber, Tornike, a Georgian, was wearing the ribbons of Ukraine as well. I do think that the influx of russians has re-traumatized the locals.

Russians are traumatized with all the events terribly as well. It is hard to compare different type of trauma, yes, but in the end everyone is just a person that deserves compassion on a personal level. Connect, feel each other. Circle of violence will stop one day if we stop turning the wheel.

You made a good point at "missing thank yous at stores", I as a Georgian was also surprised at that when I went there, but you have to think these poor people are paid somewhere like 300CAD a month in best cases and life is as expensive as it is in Canada, so, you can understand people are not in their greatest shape to say thank you to every customer they serve. If you ask me, there is no excuse for a good "good bye, thank you", but that's me, who have never experienced a life where I lacked of money for food or basic things in life,... but hey, try to put in their shoes then maybe you realize it. Try imagining working 12hrs a day for 10CAD a day when a kg of tomatoes costs 3CAD+ and try to imagine yourself smiling at everyone. Yeah, they dont do it because we Georgians don't like to be fakes, we don't like faking our feelings, which other people do daily, no, that certainly is not in our culture, to fake, and to fake smiles... In Spain where I live it's a daily affair, to fake your feelings and to fake how much you love everyone, but then become a total asshole from 0-100 in a second as soon as you are "required" to express your real feelings, then you show your true face and "believe me", it's waaay worse than a Georgian not telling you thank you at store, it feels much painful to think someone likes you and is friendly and then instantly see a change in his face when you approach a little deeper, then he might call to police haahahah yeah, I prefer honesty to a faked smiles, and Georgians hate faking smiles. Here in Spain for example, you will hear "thank you and hello and goodbye" with a great smile on their faces, but then they will not invide you even to a damn can of coke, not to mention something more "serious" than that, even they don't share nothing to their best friends, and i can tell you that by seeing it with my eyes over a span of 20 years. I have seen how best friends loaned 20 cents for a coke and return it in 1 week and the other expand her hand to get it and accept it, that is impossible to see in Georgia. In Europe you can walk 50km and not get a damn cigarette, meanwhile in Georgia you will come back home with a full pack of cigs by just walking your small street. In Georgia a complete stranger will invite you to a dinner that costs 1 month of salary in Georgia, meanwhile that is unbelievable and impossible to even imagine in Europe or America. Yes, you get many great faces by europeans but then as soon as you get into serious talk and you try to connect as a human then everybody becomes a stranger, and i mean it, a complete stranger. all the smiles fade quickly hahaha so yeah, the smiles you expect from the people are just that, fake smiles, nothing else. I prefer a poor Georgian who doesn't tell me thank you but gives me whole his heart when I get to know him, which doesnt happen in Europe. The type of connection you can develop with a Georgian, the human soul connection you establish, the soulmateness you can achieve very easily with lots of Georgians is amazing and surprising. I have lived in Spain for 20 years and I still cannot say that I have a friend in here. I have many acquintances but not frriends. It's not because of my lack of integration, they are exactly same fakes with their owns, with their own family, with their own so called friends, so I cannot be surprised about me not having them as friends. Meanwhile by just living for 1 year in Georgia I met few people who still text me and ask me how I am and who I can ask for whatever I need, be it money or whatever, meanwhile in Spain asking for money or for accomodation to you "friend" is equal to you getting disappointed instantly because thats to ask too much in here. So yeah, there is a saying in Georgia that says "a good narrator needs also a good listener", what this means? it means for you to understnd the Georgian secret gem, the blessing, you have to know these things. If you come from a place where everything is fake smiles and fake relationships and individualistic crap, and whole your life you only saw these then maybe comprehending the Georgian nature, the Georgian soul will be quite quite difficult to you, even if a Georgian completely opens his heart and treats you as his brother honestly, because you will not understand it, you will not be able to taste it. I know many cases where me personally or other Georgians have treated and integrated Europeans as if they were their family, they treated them as nobody in their lives treated them in their home countries and still even dont say a thank you, and besides thank you (who really dont care about it) you can clearly see on their faces and their eyes they didn't catch your vibes and your true feelings, your honest love... they couldnt catch it because they dont know the taste. So hey, those who understand it understand it. Those who don't have the JIGAR to understand it, wont understand it, what can be done, nothin...

The problem is simply that westerners don't understand our mentality. That's why there's always so much misinterpretation of things. Georgia is a country that builds on complexes and in the extreme direction (honor, shame, misfortune, tragedy, motherly love, family cohesion, marriage)

There are many similarities with my country Egypt. My sister visited Georgia sometime ago and wanted to start a business. She told me that this is the only country where you can find a good wife. That’s according to our culture, as we also in Egypt do not have the concept of dating. In addition, the Christians of Egypt are also Eastern Orthodox like Georgians. I have been living in North America for years and thinking to visit Georgia as a Nomad and open a research Center. I don’t see the behaviour of the Georgians abnormal, it’s an eastern conservative environment.

I Also Wonder how the fact you Are Russian affected your journey And friendliness of the people. Well, I didn't go around saying I was Russian in stores and as you can probably tell, I speak fluent English (I have lived in Canada since age of 12). I actually thought the older generation was really warm and friendly; it is the younger generation seemed a lot more closed off. Obviously I met so many wonderful young Georgian people, like the people I interview, but service industry and overall vibe wasn't super friendly at times. But you are right - I didn't go to the countryside. I wish I had!

@@DatingBeyondBorders I know what you mean, especially the service. But yes, its different world outside of Tbilisi (And Batumi). People Are smiling And Really make you feel welcomed. We had great experiences during hitchhiking. Not just that people were stopping quite soon, they would invate us for supra, offering drinks, food, cigaretts (once or twice we were offered weed too,lol), even to sleep over. Always making sure we Are OK And giving us numbers in case we would need help. I Always Felt relaxed cuz I knew ppl Will not let you Down. Armenia Is all above, but 2x stronger + it applies to Jerevan too - highly recommended. And their food, coffee And Tea Are the best I ever had. But Georgia has better wine. Iran was even better in hospitality, even through somethimes it Felt little bit more like a politeness or show off While in Armenia it seemed more from the hearth. Sorry for long answer lol, I got into it 😅😅 But someone might be interested And I feel the duty to promote these wonderful Ppl!

​@@DatingBeyondBorders The effect of the civil war, harsh economic crisis and collapse of the entire system in the 1990s Georgia is still somehow there in this modern day and age because it wasn't such a long time ago. So, Georgia as a country is still living through the years of PTSD in a way, and there are many many many people whose lives were changed, effected and thrown into totally different kind of reality after the fall of the USSR, and it was basically a "cultural revolution" which ignited some kind of nihilism in society. So, just to do a little psychological analysis here... those Georgian salespeople (Older ones - who, most of them may actually be high-class professionals like doctors or lecturers or whatever... but after collapse of the USSR they had to face the harsh reality which turned their lives upside-down forever --- and Younger ones who can't find better job even after graduating and getting a degree and have to still live with their parents because they can't afford the rent) may not give you "smiles", "thank yous" and "welcomes" at stores and radiate the most positive vibes, but it's not because they dislike you or something... It's just how it is. I know it's common customer service etiquette, but still... (Also, the snippet you showed at last, after mentioning people weren't smiley at the store, looked like an old "bazaar" market or something - people are gonna be way different in big modern supermarkets and stores) Ironically, so many Russians say how depressive Russia (except Moscow) is and how much more fun Georgia is and how smiley Georgian people are. So strange. I guess everything is conditional.

One cool thing about Georgia I noticed, is that it shows the somewhat unique culutres of the Caucasus are not a product of Islam. A Islamic Georgia would be very similar to somewhere like Dagestan and a Christian Dagestan would be like Gerogia. Very interesting

Only if you speak Russian. I speak Georgian to everybody here, and everybody looks *thrilled* and is always super friendly to me. I'm invited to social gatherings multiple times a week, and my GF's friends of all sexes and ages are super friendly and enthusiastic. But I like Georgia the place, I like Georgians the people, and I like Georgian culture. It's as far removed from my PNW/Scandinavian culture as it gets, and finally being in a country surrounded by friendly extroverts is great. You get what you give, in a new place

I enjoyed Georgia - but found the people rude and unpleasant- and constantly trying to rip you off… with the few exceptions of super nice people , but it wasn’t normal - just my opinion

People are becoming less openly hospitable especially in the cities with so many foreigners coming and also modern culture infiltrating a bit. Also, it's not as common to use please and thank you often, like in the US and Canada, but they put a lot of respect and politeness opportunities in other parts of the language. For ex. თქვენ is the form of you that you would use with someone older than you or of higher statues/someone to show respect to, etc.

Partially he is right. Because of communist past in USSR that mindset of expecting government or someone to look after you and your family without hard work actually exists in Georgia but generalizing that is as stupid as saying that all white people are racist or something like that. Most Georgian men are working as hard as possible to feed their families.

After watching both parts I'll say, notice how the best people were the older generations. They were more romantic, more hospitable, more happy, more fun and more moral Georgia being influenced by western liberalism has decayed their culutre to a noticeable degree. Anything touched by liberalism loses its uniqueness and its charm and just becomes flattened and lifeless
