Something about Swelter, the mod's theme focuses on the 2 rebel factions ideologies and morales of The Main Rebelion" and The Anarchist Where the Anarchist are you know, more Anarchists and refusing to fight in bigger batles against the combine, their goal is more humanitarian, making the outside areas more liveabale for future generations, like how we saw that baby in that container that was born during the combine reign (and the supresion field) And the Main Rebelion are fighting for the humanity as a whole, going toe to toe with the combine and going in big battles, but they are willing to sabotage and kill their fellow humans to complete their goals. Also one corection about the endings, both endings dont really afect the main story that much, since the endings are about more or less rebels on the Main rebelion's side, so both endings can fit into the canon of HL2.

That’s why Snowdrop Escape disappointed me a lot and why Swelter is really goddamn great, it had this super interesting storyline where sole former Russian soldiers don’t particularly like the Rebels or the Combine, so they use both as pawns to their schemes, but the execution of snowdrop escape was so underwhelming (5 puzzles every nanosecond), but on the other hand Swelter is just a blast to play throughout with a great storyline with great themes and ideologies

Cool thing is about Entropy Zero 1/2, is it is getting a sequel aka Entropy Zero 3, last update about it was 4-5 months ago and it was a soundtrack with the description having a clear reference to bad cop and wilson. We will likely get Entropy Zero 3 in 2026 or 2027, and possibly a trailer in 2025. You can find the sound track on the breadman youtube channel alongside their other videos and projects.

I remember in the dev commentary of Portal that there were bugs when players were pushed into a portal on the ceiling. They could either rework the map so it wasn't needed, or they could fix it. They decided to fix it because they knew modders might make maps with it. Truly the goats.

Might be my nostalgia and bias, but I'd put Nightmare House 2 higher. Aside the usual jumpscare once a while (tbf it was just a norm of horror back in those days), all other scripted scares were really well crafted. I don't think I ever played horror that utilized so many different tricks to mess with you. Although without an interesting story or some deep gameplay, it turns into a "spooky attraction ride" where you expect new scare after another as you progress, and so on until the final act. But that might be a cup of tea for some that only want pure horror experience to test your mental endurance, since that's where most of mod's focus and effort went to.

Nightmare House 2 is tropey and annoying nowadays because back when it came out, what it did was INNOVATIVE. It was one of the games that created/popularized most of the tropes used in nowadays horror games, so a modern gamer playing it would be bored out of their skull since they've seen everything before in other games.

FYI The good ending of cry of fear is_ The multiplayer ending when time traveling, interdimensional police officers stop the car crash that paralyzed simon (Driven by the protagonist of Afraid of Monsters). completely agree with the Too many Crate, people giving it too much credit for it worth, i went onto mod db and people basically praises up and down with this mod, but when i played it, it feel like the mod was made by a 9 years old just know how to use Hammer editor and think it's smart and funny also funfact : as a cry of fear fan this fact will make it 10x better : the story of cry of fear is the real simon writting a book to stop himself from commit suicide, in all the ending, you either go up against book simon and the real simon, the monster in the game is stopping book simon from killing the real simon, or better put it this way : the monster is actually trying to stop simon from commiting self delete

@@ChesterManfred yeah, in the game, book simon is the negative emotion of the real one, if you start looking the main protagonist as a villian ( book simon ) the game starting to make much much more sense i mean like, the first thing book simon do when he see the real simon is killing him right, like yo, chill out why don't the 2 of them talk first and then punching each other Sophie jump off the building is a double edge knife : - she don't like simon as a person as he is right now, in fact in the cops ending they end up together because simon is a changed man OR - in simon perspective sophie rejection is like a death sentence to both of them ( yes simon is somewhat of an incel ) in the 2nd ending simon killed her to keep her for himself, which is the exact thing that the book trying to depict thats why cof is so special, because you actually playing as a sympathetic villian

A few honorable mentions: - DayHard: This one is strangely alot of fun, even though it being completely ridiculous I remember it very fondly (although I had to google to find its name), also it was suprisingly well made :P - Mistake of Pythagoras: Dunno if I ever finished this but I remember it being completely wacky and weird, but also well done? Do I remember correctly? - Smod: Not quite the same category, but this overhaul was SO MUCH FUN. I spent HOURS playing through HL2 and different maps with slow motion and all the awesome weaponry, it really made it so much fun playing through HL2 again with this - Sven Co Op : Never really played it, but again it basically adds co op to the base game, so I guess more of an overhaul and not exactly fitting for this list I also remember HL: Alyx having several really good mods / maps. One I liked alot was one taking place in a bar where you have to shoot your way through and rescue someone - "Contracts" or something?

Downfall was originally planned to be a trilogy and the second chapter was in developement for a while (there's even screenshots of it). But the dev got a job at Ubisoft and he abandoned the modding scene, though he commented that he might do something with Source 2 one day. A shame because the level of mapping in Downfall is nothing less than genious.

I think the idea was you playing a random guy during the first portal storms that rock Earth after the Resonance Cascade?

While I would agree that Nightmare House 2 is not exactly super scary or anything, I think it's atmosphere is very well done. Idk, maybe it's just cause I don't do well with horror games in general, but for me the atmosphere still left me feeling unsettled much of the time and somewhat on edge.

I always had a bad habit of spoiling games through KZbin or any other media for myself. For Entropy Zero: 2 I did my best to hold off my urge, and damm. It was definitely worth it. In fact, it was so good that I called my megabase on my friend's Minecraft server: Arbeit Complex. ( Arbeit - The name Aperture used to cover their real name/location.)

In the final fight of Entropy Zero 2 you can turn any container into vorts 100%. They will shoot you, the adviser, as well as your other self on the ground, sending him floating higher and higher upwards😂 Also bms smg is really accurate❤️

There were two good mods for HL1: 1) Paranoia - about russian operative from "Alpha", who fights (chechen?) terrorists in the beginning, but then we going underground, into some secret soviet research base with monsters, zombies, e.t.c.. 2) Invasion - it's French mod (as I remember character's voices). It has new UI (dialogue options?.. can't recall very well), they even gave you a lighter instead of standart flashlight. Some changes in damage system... hard to recall as I played it as a child.

Entropy Zero is canon for me. Like it's truly so good and fits into the lore. It's like HL:Alyx in that it's a prelude to Half Life 3. Can't wait for Entropy Zero 3.

This is probably the best half life mod tierlist. I am truly baffled that entropy zero two is even free! Its a complete full game with a workshop for basically infinite content! Its basically the half life 3 I've always wanted! I hope they make a third entropy zero. They better not pull the same trick on us like valve did...
