Just got fitted for the Widex SmartRic. I'm still struggling with domes and tulips seem to work and stay in. They are not ideal and I might need customs. But music, guitar playing, is incredible. Noise reduction and day to day use is not really on a par with my old Philips 9030's yet. I'm fit with the Widex rationale and getting the Widex tweaked in a few days to improve normal sounds. I think there's just too much gain compared to the Philips for my damaged hearing. Road noise from my car just generates very loud "bacon frying" sounds I can't bear at this point. But I can attest to the beauty of what they do for live music. Puresound is very prone to feedback and not really necessary for music to be great, right out of the box even in the Universal program. I have to believe it's something in the hardware, receivers or ?????, that accounts for this and short delays, even in the Universal program can't hurt!

Glad to hear you’re getting on well with the music. Regarding the rest… Widex hearing aids aren’t as plug and play for the audiologist as some other hearing aids - they need coupling properly, where other hearing aids may give the impression they are fitted well by not whistling, whereas they are actually suppressing some of the important sounds. Dependent on your loss, custom domes often work well - but they will need real ear measurements doing - often auds will do a sensogram but gold standard is REM and is a much more precise measure of validating the correct gain. Pure sound will feedback if loss is not mild and there is an open fit - it turns off a lot of the processing features to reduce processing time, leaving a very natural sound, fantastic where it works but it’s not for everyone.

@@altohear Thanks. Prior to this I read everything I could about music and HA and had to resort to DIY for my Philips 9030. As good as I could get them, all features turned off, the Widex instantly blows them away with noise and feedback still on just using the universal program. I went from vented sleeves that would not stay in to tulips but I suspect a custom might be what I need with enough venting to avoid occlusal effects. My audi does REM but has not updated my Widex for the tulips which will happen Tuesday and I'll discuss my concerns. They are so good for live guitar playing I will not be giving them up. Right now I can get by turning the volume down to about 3 in the app and even adding some EQ. The road noise is all in the middle freq band as is a lot of speech, lol. Take care and thanks again.
