Real former Huey Pilot from the German Air Force here: this is exactly what u need. The neutral position of the cyclick is changing continously depending on several factors e.g. flight speed, wind direction and speed, power setting and so on... you can even say that from hover to 120 KIAS you go through a car's stick shift literally from 1st to 5th gear with the neutral position. 1st gear: accelerate from hover to a few knots, 2nd gear: pulling cyclic back after accelerating to a few knots and waiting for translational lift, 3rd gear: pushing the cyclic hard forward if u wont gain altitude while proceeding through translational lift phase and just accelerating, 4th gear: after passing this phase pulling back the stick to maintain attitude and altitude, 5th gear: again pushing forward until reaching 120 KIAS and setting the new neutral with force trim release push button. If you need the correct procedure for standard, low-level and maximum endurance autorotation, let me know. i will tell u. keep up the nice content and inform us about the force feed back stick. cheers

Hey! Thanks for writing this! Yes, please! If you describe the nuances of the auto rotations that would be epic - I'll make a video with those! I also have a question for you - with Force Trim switch ON, how much tendency does the stick have to "bounce" back to the middle position? Does it bounce/ move back all the way back to center or just partially? I understand there's still a bit of a light spring effect with Force Trim ON? DCS does model the Force Trim ON/OFF really well, so when you position the switch to OFF it takes away all tension and the stick moves about freely, so that's the way I have it tuned now. So with Force Trim ON, the stick does want to move back to center when you don't hold it, but not bang on center like a spring, maybe most of the way. Would that be correct? If you have any input that would be great! :)
@moloh2529
@moloh2529 5 ай бұрын
hey i appreciate the quick response... so in reality the spring package of the force trim is quite strong. it will pull the cyclic to its defined neutral pretty seriously depending how far away you moved the cyclick away from its neutral. for example if you just move 1-2 inches away from center the resistance for you is relatively low and if you take your hands off it will move smoothly to its neutral. but if you move lets say 6 inches away the resistance you have to overcome is progressively higher and also the return to its neutral after taking your hands off is no joke and could also bounce a little around the center. the high force of the spring package is the reason that we switched force trim off (in that case the cyclic has close to no resistance in all directions due to the powerful hydraulic support) while doing difficult maneuvers e.g. hoist operations, landing with one skid on the edge of a roof top or doing vertical landings partially HOGE in confined areas etc. cause your forearm muscles are exhausted very soon, you get stiff and tensed in your whole body and in consequence you lose your fine motor skills which can get all people involved in serious trouble if that makes sense for you. if you give me your ig i can contact you for more content. stay safe@@CommandT

I currently use a WinWing stick with the springs removed and dampers installed that allow me to let go of the stick anywhere and it stays there. But a good and reasonably priced force feedback stick would be an absolute game changer. I can't wait to hear more about this mystery product!
@Archinabald
@Archinabald 5 ай бұрын
Neat, can't wait to see what the stick is when its released. I have taken the springs out of my VKB stick and tightened down the dampers, and that gave me the best feel for helicopter flight. But It's a huge pain to disassemble the base to swap between planes and helos. A good force feedback stick seems like the holy grail for flight sims.
@CommandT
@CommandT 5 ай бұрын

@OrionRox

Can't wait to see the product! FYI, helicopters with a force trim system such as UH-1, AH-64D, Mi-8, ka-32, or Mi-24 behave differently. Moving the hand off the cyclic will cause the cyclic to bounce back to its center position, just like other normal aircraft would do, the further you move the cyclic away from the center, the more force and tension will be required, the cyclic is tensioned by spring that connected with magnetic. However, the difference is: the center position can be changed by pressing and releasing the force trim release button. If you are using the joystick without a spring and will not re-center on its own, what you are trying to do is basically mimic the behavior by pressing down the force trim release button continuously. Hence a force feedback joystick might solve this issue, you can move the cyclic freely without much effort by holding the force trim release button, once the desired flight state is achieved, releasing the force trim release button will make the cyclic to stay at the current position, if you trying to move the cyclic again without pressing the force trim release button, some force will be needed. A very good video should explain this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXylfX6gpJd4bbs

Hey, I’m well aware of this. I have this set up correctly now. I will demonstrate in my new video soon 👍 I have initially set the stick up as if Force Trim was off but now I realise that this is modelled well in DCS so I have it set up where the stick has a slight spring effect switch force trim ON, and loosens up like it should with Force Trim OFF. I’ll demonstrate on a new video soon 👍

So that’s where it really really shines!! No more of this “accelerated stalling by accident” nonsense. You feel a) the vibration through the stick as the airflow starts to break up over the wing and buffet, and b) the awesome natural airflow spring effects that make the stick very tight off centre at speed and it requires a lot of force to manipulate the flight controls with high deflects at high speeds… and on the ground the stick moves freely. It’s awesome. Really awesome

No the warthog has a very bad design its centered by pushing down on the whole gimbal witch makes for a very large transfer area of dead zone or zero tension so you get a large center bump, i flew with a 3d pro for years then a warthog with 50mm extension an f 18 grip an yes the warthog looked cool an felt good but it was by far worse to fly with an tried all the mods no spring upsidedown small spring white grease you name it. now i use a virpil warbird base 120mm extension an that same f 18 grip the biggest improvement to my flying came from decent pedals vkb m5 now im flying it, not reacting to it @@CommandT
