In this video I take the beautiful Taog's Hangar Aérospatiale SA315B Lama for my first flight and start the process of getting to know it and how to fly it. We do this in the beautiful scenic Lofoten Archipelago in Norway. A great helicopter, fantastic scenery. What a pleasure!

Great case of confirmation bias here! Note I completely miss the popped breakers for pos lights and gyro because I didn’t think any would be out because it was brand new. I’m looking…..but not seeing….and as I was looking out rather than instrument flying I didn’t notice gyro out. Thanks to @stuthemoose for flagging up!

Yes. North Norway is beautiful. I like to fly a lot there in the sim. Great video.

Wondaful heli, been flying this one non stop since release. Cant get enough of the sounds! If you noticed, you had no position lights because you didn't push in the breaker in. Same with the Gyro breaker and the Landing lights breaker (the only way to turn on/off the landing light) All three are always popped out by default on loading in.

Ah thanks, and there was me following the checklist thinking I was doing the right thing! Looking back at the video I can see them out but at the time when I checked circuit breakers I didn’t see them, I guess because I am so used to not seeing circuit breakers popped out that I wasn’t looking properly. Lesson learned!

It is. Best to pre trim a bit of cyclic to the right and a touch aft ( two clicks and one click respectively for me ) before take-off. Trimming this thing is essential for flying and especially, hovering.
@Dreamsofwings
@Dreamsofwings 8 ай бұрын
@@QBziZ ah didn't realise it had cyclic trim. Will have to check that out. I also find I tend to have to put some right cyclic in so left trim might make mine worse?
@QBziZ
@QBziZ 8 ай бұрын
@@Dreamsofwings Not IRL but in the sim fortunately yes. Getting a steady hover without an almost neutral trim is a fool’s errand. You can’t really feel that neutral position with a spring centered joystick.

Just to be clear, you need to map it in the controls options, there is no Hype-like custom stuff.

Just when we learned to fly 1.0, Taog uploaded 1.1 😂. Well, now it's a lot easier to fly and leaing into the bubble with head tracking to see where you place the sling cargo is something I couldn't do with any other helicopter before 💪🏼❤️‍🔥 (But to be honest, none of my other choppers had bubble doors and sling cargo😅) It's also fun flying it into the mountains and then rip it around trees like on a race course 😁 Great video 👌🏼

@@Dreamsofwings yeah Taog did a good job on that, you really feel the weight and of cause have to watch out to not get it to swing on the sling 😁 Flying the palette is anyhow a bit easier than flying the fully filled bambi bucket 📦🪣🤔

Smitten by the Lama - I know the feeling lol. Just picked it up on Friday. Re: the terrain distractions at 21:08, it's one of the things that distracts me too on any helo flight. It's very immersive to start doing approach planning and landings on those high-altitude ridges and next to mountain lakes, especially with real weather. You should give those a try when you have time, excellent fun and builds great skills too. Thumbs up on Lofoten. The recent Nordics update is impressive.

I think those depression in the sides of mountains are called corries, usually have a wee loch in them. Then again it might not be, been a long time since I did any geography/geology.

Yes that’s the Scottish name for them, in Wales it’s a Cwm. It’s the bowl from which a glacier forms and then spills over the side. I think Cirque is the other name. Been a long time for me too!

@@Dreamsofwings Handy to know these things. Yep, I'm Scottish. About to say 'are you sure that's a word Cwm' Then realised I can't pronounce most Scottish Gaelic. But thanks education system for teaching me French because that's been really useful 🤨 😁.

Nice video thanks for showing us what it can do. I found it impossible to fly using pedals and a joystick with the collective linked to the throttle. I manage to make it work with the H145. What controls do you use or would recommend ?
@Dreamsofwings
@Dreamsofwings 8 ай бұрын
Many thanks! I've not got an optimal set up for rotary. In an ideal world I'd have one of those fancy Puma setups lol. I have an old Warthog stick in a Virpil warBRD base, Thrustmaster TPR pedals and using a lever on my Bravo for collective. Very tempted to get another stick and base and take the springs out just for helo's.

@Dreamsofwings
@Dreamsofwings 8 ай бұрын
Depends on if the helicopter has trimmer and most of the time with the kind of flying I am doing I am not really touching beep trim unless its a long straight and level leg. I’m not even sure if this little Lama has cyclic trim lol
