Also I love your videos, great quality, concise, and detailed insight without spiraling into pretentiousness! Well articulated, too

Great vid. I watched Nope twice when it came out and I remember how unique the UFO was in the film and the camera work compliments that uniqueness very well. The scene with the monkey at the beginning of the film was very disturbing despite the royalty free monkey sound effects.

A theme of the movie I found really interesting was how it plays on generational succession and "new blood" arriving in Hollywood. OJ suddenly finds himself replacing his father and becoming the "man" of the operation, despite clearly struggling with it since he sells some of the horses to Ricky and isn't as confident as the legendary Otis Haywood Sr (Keith David). Em is also proud to use her heritage for her benefit but is clearly focused on being fully capable and realized outside of stunt casting (sings/dances/acting/etc). Ricky Park is coasting off of his minor stardom from Gordy's Home and attempting to paint himself outside of his big start, despite the horrific experience and trauma he got from it. He even keeps his old costar in the crowd for seemingly every show, just showing that he cant escape his past. And Michael Wincott is clearly burned out and bored with his craft before OJ approaches him, showing that the current state of his work isnt fulfilling or innovative so by the time he finally sees something truly unique and special, he is willing to die to properly film it. There is so much about film and the production of film in this movie about flying saucers in the hills outside of California, it really is thematically cohesive in a way that Get Out and Us are simply not.

This is a mad good level of analysis. I do agree with you, on the surface the film is quite simple seeming plot wise but thematically there is so much to dig into and so people can come up with all kinds of different theories or pick up on tons of little details.

Did you notice during the Star Lasso Experience abduction scene when Jupe is looking directly up at Jean Jacket as the audience is being 'beamed' up that you can see a little kid in the stands behind him being dragged across the ground towards Jupe and is zipped right up? It's kinda hard to see, much like the Gordy's Home audience hiding in the stands on that soundstage set. It took me over 20 watches to notice that. I can't recall if anyone mentioned it before in a KZbin video, or if I caught that myself...? One thing that makes me wonder about Jean Jacket is that it hides in clouds, space, where it is implied to be from, can actually be defined in a different manner. Clouds are sometimes mentioned when heaven is, as is space. The final shape of Jean Jacket has reminded a lot of folks of a Biblical angel. I'm thinking that perhaps JJ isn't an alien, but an angel...?

Watching the Star Lasso Experience audience being pulled into the digestive tract has a detail that implies that JJ doesn't have an EMP blast or anything like that. When the audience is being shown trapped in the belly of the flying saucer beast, the walls of its flesh are pulsing with light. I think JJ eats electricity.
