Like no need to to do the smart stack, when you can just add the specific widgets and then drag and stack. You just need another page to drag across and then back to sort properly. But this is made for novices, so I see why he did that. But honestly I was like whyyyyyy.

Tried to follow all your steps to customize my phone but literally you need a whole week and degree to know all this theme installing. 😅 I wish iPhone would do us favor to make all our iPhones setup a lot quicker and easier just like android. Your customisation is cool and all but it's pretty ridiculously expensive. You need to buy the icon pack, you need to buy the wallpapers, you need to buy Clear Spaces, Widgy needs a one off in-app purchase, Iconboard needs an in-app purchase. I'm halfway through the video and this set up is costing upwards of $40 and I'm only halfway through the video. And it's not immediately clear how much you're going to need to spend. For example you won't realise you need to pay $10 in the Iconboard app to be able to set up the custom icons until after you've already paid $10 for the icon pack. Very cool but it would be good if at the beginning of the video you laid out what apps and files would be needed and how much each costs

Hey Sam! In focus settings you can add a filter to set appearance to dark mode whenever that focus is turned on. You won't have to create automations for dark and light mode separately. The focus will do it for you.

Excellent video Sam. Thanks for not skipping the multiple small steps. However, for me, this is way too much of a hassle still in iOS on my 12 Pro. This video helped me decide to switch to Android hahaha. Not only for customization but for multiple other personal reasons. I enjoy tweaking things every couple of weeks. On Android this process takes me maybe 10-13 minutes if I'm really messing around.

For anyone wondering, some of the apps require in-app purchases. Widgy for example, only lets you use one medium widgy and the second one needs the one time in-app purchase of ($5). Same with clear spaces, which isn't absurdly pricey ($2), it still requires to be purchased. Which for most people might not be a lot of money, but for the people who can't afford to spend money on apps no matter how little the price, I would like to see a completely free version of this customization guide.

This is a very well done video. I began the journey of IOS customization, and began to get frustrated when I compare just how easy all of this is on android. That said, I admit I have an iphone only due to the fact that my wife and kids all have iphones, and it makes many things easier. I also have to admit that my somewhat old iphone xs works tremendously well. Cameras are excellent, OS is super speedy, and expecting to get iOS 17. Still miss my old android, and the way I could easily make it mine. I admire your creativity in getting all this accomplished on iOS.

Same here and the same situation with the family. Just got my first ever iPhone (14 pro max) and it's a steep learning curve from what I'm used too on my previous Android phones. I'm now realizing that there's more steps to do to get to where you want to go on an ios then it is on Android. I'll get used to it the more I get familiar with it but I do miss the way Android works as a whole.

If you follow your steps exactly but the dock doesn’t get hidden make sure the “reduce transparency” switch is flipped off in “accessibility” -> “display and text size”

Clean setup and awesome video like always 💪🏻 Quick tip: When creating a custom Focus on iOS 16, if you scroll down you have the option to automatically enable Dark Mode when that Focus is enabled. This means you don't have to create an Automation based on the Focus mode because it automatically enables/disables Dark Mode when the Focus is enabled/disabled

@@sambeckman if you tie dark mode with a specific Focus, when that Focus is disabled it "takes dark mode with it" let's say. It disables it automatically.

@@angelm1081 After you create a Focus, scroll all the way down where it says Focus Filters > Add Filter, and tap on the one that says Appearance. You can then choose Light or Dark and every time you enable that focus, the Appearance will change accordingly. If you have one Focus that enables Dark mode, when you disable that Focus, it will also disable Dark mode

Even if I'm a customization freak, there's no way in this world i will ever replicate this... Even if i had an iphone I'd keep it stock, these phones aren't meant to be customized, it's just a pain in the butt, completely tedious process whereas on Android you can do this in 2 clicks

You can add custom icons, with shortcuts, still see notification bubbles, have the phone change from light to dark, all within 2 clicks? Guess I missed the Android software that can do that. I do wish Apple would unlock and allow users to do all of this without the tedious nonsense. The main reason I won’t personally do this is because while the new icons looks amazing, they’re just images so you won’t see which apps have notification bubbles on them.

Having moved from Android to iOS I know how much better iOS is now having used it but I really missed all the customisation. This fixed that missing functionality I really loved though! Well I spent the cash, followed this very detailed video and ended up scrapping it as the dark mode icons kept saving with grey backgrounds on. Some worked ok and others would not save right at all so stood out from the dark wallpaper. I have no idea why. Am loading them in from the files but they just won’t work. An expensive failure overall. Thx for the info. At least I’ve supported you a little bit by buying those packs 😂 🤦🏻‍♂️

Hi, very informative but dude slow the heck down. You speed through this so fast it is difficult to follow and you pick things to add that actually need to be downloaded from the App Store first. This is all manageable by rewinding constantly to rewatch what has been said previously and I eventually found the blurb highlighting things I needed to download first. Please take this as feedback, the information was invaluable 👍👍👍.

Such a shame in 2022 this is what it takes to customise the iPhones homescreen when on android it takes a couple of minutes to do similar. Just do not understand why Apple don’t implement a theming system for icons and UI. Let people express themselves with how their phones look ffs! 😂 the mind boggles. EDIT: I have rewatched and redid my custom settings following your instructions and it is exactly how it should be following your guide. I spent more time on this than some schoolwork for college in the past. LOL Apple def makes it difficult to customize their software probably because they are protecting their brand but this is truly Ingenious. I cannot fathom doing this on my own. I even reset my phone and still it’s stays on it normal mode the entire time. I really don’t want to switch to dark mode automatically. This there anything else I can do that will help?

Your black is more black than mine. I’m using the same wallpaper and it’s grey ish. When I make the folder with apps you click black but black doesn’t blend on mine. Why is yours more black ?

Also quick note…to disable shortcut notifications, when you go to screen time , see all activity and if you can’t select notifications for shortcut…you can just simply push the blue arrows back and forth to the previous day and back and you should be able to click into shortcut notifications right away!

Biggest mistake attempting to follow this insanely complicated, convoluted and expensive process. Before you even attempt this, you need to download about 7 things, not all of which are free. Close to $20 bucks. You'll go through about 500 steps before you hit another wall and have to fork out $7.99 in the Widget app so you can have a second Medium Widgy Slot, something he casually forgets to mention. Another 300 steps and you get to the next hurdle, editing the shortcuts widget so you can manually change focus modes. You go through a bunch of steps before realising it doesn't work because you have to manually create the automation, which is not demonstrated in this video. You have to go to another video, sift through a million steps to find the part you need. If you manage to do that.. you then come back to this video & attempt the process. It didn't even end up working for me, the new shortcut I created didn't come up when I tried to edit the shortcut-widget. NEXT!! You get to setting up the icon packs BANG! Hit with another pay wall in the Iconboard Pro app. To do anything in this app you'll need to pay $10.99 before you can customise anything. This is where I stopped. The amount of time I wasted on this is ridiculous. Don't bother.@Sam Beckman
