Robert does a great job of shutting his mouth and letting his guest talk, most interviewers keep interrupting the guest too often, "Oh yes, but do you mean..." as if they want to show they are equally informed or smart as the guest... Robert is good at listening and like he actually is open to learning from the guest and the possibility he might be wrong, he listens as if he is interested and not just waiting for his turn to talk and show how equal smart he is. Thanks Robert.

1) Are we saying that the 70s inflation was not foreseen, despite census information in the previous decades? 2) The thesis that the world is finite could have eerie parallels with the flaw in Marx's thesis on production, which was invalidated by improved tech. 3) What stops the creator of the Decentraland-style metaverses from adding more 'land' and deflating prices to attract new investors into the space? 4) What stops monopolies being formed if we all shift to Bitcoin? Sure, that will be more meritocratic but ultimately it will leave people poor again. Amazing discussion. Very thought provoking, taken with a pinch of salt considering the number of forecasts being made within the thesis.

4. Could a Bitcoin centric world be the basis of a fully free, open market of human action, that results in better out comes for humanity? The thought experiments suggest yes but as this interview highlights brilliantly, we can never fully know the "unintended consequences" There will always be winners, losers but it's clear we need an agreed truth through which our personal, social and global responsibility is better aligned with our physical reality. It seems we're in the experimental stage of moving towards this concept.

I'm steeped in this and you blew me away. I wish I could just spend a whole day working through the framework with you. We don't know where this goes but there are key landmarks in the journey that should shape our behavior as investors. The one that rules them all is the evolution of exponential self improving AI - the analogy would be like a wolf adopting a human and then expecting stay the alpha. As the human grows that relationship inevitably shifts, we can hope to influence it but in the end humanity will thrive or die at the will of ESIAI. You lay a gap of 15-20 years. Remember this is exponential technology - I think the gap is more like 10. We should do everything we can to hasten it because you are spot on about the turmoil in the interim. The other immutable feature of this terrain is that in turmoil, with power accruing to the individual, societies will be increasingly forced into repression and police states. The nation state will not wither away peacefully. At this point they are mostly unaware that the threat to their integrity comes from within but when they figure it out they will attempt to dominate and control the transition. China, with the suppression of the internet has proven that whoever owns the base reality owns all the layers beneath it. Crypto will serve at the pleasure of the state. Facebook, Google, Amazon and whats next will serve at the pleasure of the State and so will every metaverse we escape to. The great danger of every fourth turning is it's predilection to engage in total war rather than change. Humanity is a great adapter after the fact but they are shit at changing to adapt to what's next. Russia and China have already seen the conflict and are preparing, the West is stuck scrambling to stop the old world from collapsing in on itself. Power will accrue to the innovators, whatever nation state they belong to, and no other nation state will tolerate losing control of their ability to create wealth. Yet I am still hopeful - because the pace of exponential change is unstoppable and the nation state and authoritarianism are the slow moving dinosaurs of the past. They will yield and fall because they cannot survive in this new paradigm. The opportunities to individuals that can ride this change are beyond our imagination. Bitcoin will suffice as a hedge for now but it will be sacrificed to the central banks - it has to be. Riding the waves of disruption, as ARKK attempts to do, is smart as well. Owning a house in the Cayman Islands, away from the fallout, may be the best investment you ever made. Thank you Robert for what may become the defining interview of this Age. Thank you Raoul for your insight, commitment and unparalleled vision. Whatever meta-state you choose to belong to I will be right behind.

The Treaty of Versailles (signed in 1919) and the 1921 London Schedule of Payments required Germany to pay 132 billion gold marks (US$33 billion [all values are contemporary, unless otherwise stated]) in reparations to cover civilian damage caused during the war. The German mark (About this soundpronunciation (help·info) sign: ℳ) was the currency of the German Empire, which spanned from 1871 to 1918. The Mark was on the gold standard from 1871-1914, but like most nations during World War I, the German Empire removed the gold backing in August 1914, and gold and silver coins ceased to circulate.

But he misses the solution, which is the unwinding of real estate prices and raising the risk free saving rate. It has nothing to do with Bitcoin. In addition, we have now ruined the work ethic of the next generation. We created a generation of uneducated gamblers without the proven American Ethic (that worked). On top of that taxes need to be raised - not lowered, to pay for obligations.
