I'm absolutely drawn to this watch, thank you for the review! I would love to compare it to my C Ward C60 sapphire black, which has incredibly finishing in the same price point. Gorgeous video as always. Really enjoying your non-Seiko content (despite being a huge Seiko fan myself)!

I acquired a new watch recently and the final choices were this Serica or the new C60 Trident. I went with the Trident. Despite both companies being relatively new, Chris Ward has had time to iterate and squash bugs. Despite that, I still love the design of this Serica. I’m curious what will the perception of this watch be in 10 year’s time. I’m loving the “vintage” aesthetic that’s so hot right now, but I wonder if will date this period in watch design.

Oh, that issue about the crown where sometimes it doesn't pop out and doesn't hack. I have that issue on my 4512, but I am not annoyed by it.
@alanw47442 жыл бұрын
I have both the 5303 and 4512 cali. The hand-wound 4512 has a very satisfying winding feel, also has a clutch so you can't overwind it. The only problem is I don't know if it is fully wound after 15 or 50 winds :) I did a very unscientific study and wound it 10 times, lasted about 12 hours, so I don't think it's one of those movements that needs a ton of winds.
@TheGrenadier972 жыл бұрын
I was wondering if there was such a thing as a mesh bracelet with end links, and then i noticed this. Pretty good-looking. I also like the bezel a lot.
@vitero57453 жыл бұрын
You should definitely get a 4512. Take it from someone using it literally every day for 2 months, the screw down crown is even a positive every time i wind it, somehow part of the ritual too. And any cross thread is included in the warranty. I'm even thinking of buying another one just like it, just to have replacement parts for the future. Also, +1 sec a day.

Nice watch. The dial looks great (from a distance) I spotted something on the second hand... And as you mentioned the finishing of the hands, the issue with the movement and the difficulties with the clasp, I don't think it's the best midrange diver. My Yema Superman is not perfect, but keeps way better time. Never had issues with the watch or customer service. And the finishing, accuracy and power reserve of the Longines Hydro is hard to beat for the price. But it's all about personal taste at the end of the day.

Totally agree. I have a 90 series ETA & it is awesome. I have a Sellita SW 200-1….3.5 seconds a day fast…my most accurate mechanical watch. I HATE what Swatch has done to ETA. I am though a convert to Sellita. Soprod, PT 5000, there’s a ton of cheaper stuff. I have recently heard the Oris Caliber 400 is having trouble. In house movements are not always best. There is a reason ETA is cloned everywhere. I want hi beat. Later for Power-Matic 80……no regulator…..big $$$ grab. Wait till you have to ship the thing to the Swiss……
@EscapementWatch3 жыл бұрын
when I say ETA I mean Sellita as well. They are the exact same to me, as sellita used to be an ETA parts producer for them back in the day. pt5000 is interesting I only heard one bad review of it.

Love this watch, I’m currently on the waiting list, of my memory serves me right both the black and white dials we’re being offered at the same price, $1075€ $1219 USD now the black dial is being offer at $1290€ $1463 USD a significant increase , really bummed about that but I’m probably gonna still pull the trigger once I get the notice of availability, I purchased their commando ref 4512 and I’m happy with that purchase, no issues with the crown, my only gripe is that it’s a screw down crown, it’s just not proper on a mechanical watch, the fact that I will constantly have to pull the crown out every other day (assuming I wear it daily) makes me nervous that at some point it will come loose or break, if it was automatic then this would not be an issue for me, mechanical watches should not have screw down crowns in my view, I own a Hamilton mechanical and that doesn’t have a screw down crown, it functions beautifully but in the end I guess it’s all subjective, I still love my little Serica…
@EscapementWatch3 жыл бұрын
Yes I commented to Krono Kraze yesterday on this video, that I might wait for a 3rd gen 4512 for a non-screw down crown. I can see that becoming annoying over time. Plus the khaki field is just so iconic and hard to beat!!! Check the site again after removing cookies. I saw different prices and the white dial was priced higher then the black. Then it went back to the same price the next day, so it could be a glitch on the site.
@raymondfoo90453 жыл бұрын
I wonder about that issue too, about the screw down crown worn out from daily winding. I raised the question to Jerome and he assure me that would not be an issue. He compared it to those vintage Rolex watches that is similar in nature (mechanical with screw down crown) but still works like charm to this day.
@frankdux56933 жыл бұрын
Congrats if you pull the trigger. It's a beautiful piece. I'm quite drawn to it myself. I'm assuming you have a collection like most people will on here, so very much doubt it'll get worn to the degree that the threads will become worn out. And even if they do? Just dont get it wet once that happens. I know it's a dive watch and defeats the point, but I have professional dive watches capable of going ridiculous depths and never touched water. But it'll likely take so many years for that to happen within a collection rotation it'll be vintage by then so wouldn't want it in water anyway.

I have to say this is a really good looking watch, but one that seems like one should wait til they iron out the kinks to buy. I love that bracelet. Definitely makes it stand out. The bezel is very cool as well. The editing did feel a little stop and go like a few guys mentioned in the comments, but I don't think you need to re-do it at all. I think the work to be done here is by Serica, not you.

Once you take a good look at the shapes of the 12 o'clock indices you can't unsee it. I have no idea how a good designer does that...unless it's intentional.
@EscapementWatch2 жыл бұрын
I don't really see it. They put the extra circles at the 12 so you can differentiate orientation at night. The design theme on this dial is lollipop indices and batons so it makes sense. Now if we look at the Omega moonwatch that 12 indice, you cannot unsee. For the serica I don't get that vibe.
@jarrahfitzgerald27522 жыл бұрын
@@EscapementWatch it may just be me but it looks like male anatomy and I can't unsee it as that whenever I look at the watch. The rest of the design is great though.
@EscapementWatch2 жыл бұрын
hahah I see a man with two arms and body. The bezel lume pip as his head. and the 2 lolipops as arms and baton as hands. I can't unsee the man standing there. But for the Omega legendary moon watch its more male anatomy as the circles are tiny an closer to the main baton on the Omegas.
