Mind Mapping is an incredibly powerful skill for studying, note taking, and learning because it forces us to generate connections and relate ideas together. However, many students struggle to use it because of how difficult it is to do it effectively. We were in the same boat. And after lots of trial and error, studying and learning through many subjects like medicine, STEM, productivity, and even business, we've come up with a checklist of items to make mind mapping a super effective and easy-to-use tool. Making mind maps has easily become our favorite learning strategy to study for exams or for boards. Here's our ultimate mind map tutorial to take better notes.

My trick to mind mapping is to simplify as much as possible. Replace words with images, and turn related key terms into mnemonics. Essentially make it as visual as possible and remove as many words as possible. Also, it doesn't have to be done in one session. Each time I come back to a mind map, I simply it further until I cannot. The key here is simplicity and clarity. Ultimately, our minds think visually first, so the ideal mind map should primarily consist of images.

@@ChintuRai-fk8rr Then it would be a bad mind map. The key word is "possible", meaning you don't have to get rid of all the words/ make them into visuals. You could use the camel example in the video where it was a picture combined with some labels. That way you can visual terms and still understand the images when looking back at it.
@kite-dv8me
@kite-dv8me Ай бұрын
@@ChintuRai-fk8rryou can use autocad (an engineering program) to draw mind maps. you can include details with very very small font size (a whole page can be written as big as a single word). then whenever you want to see details you can just zoon in and see the details clearly. the program allows you to add shapes figures and 3d shapes if you want and it has some other features.

Jen’s mom Beth here; Thank you, this helps. I’m retired yet always reading. I have adhd, narcolepsy, synesthesia + so your mind map at 8:55 is my brain before, during, and after - all while taking neat notes and writing in the margins. I also put “items in rooms”, make up “stories for lists”, and have a photographic memory. I get sensory overloaded and easily distracted. I like to doodle yet it never crossed my mind to do a Mind Map this way. Continued success. You have a new subscriber.

I am greatly enjoying your channel and have learned SOOO much from you guys! I recommend you to everyone! I wish you guys would make a video about strategies for studying problem-based subjects (math, physics and chemistry) in addition to all your content-based (biology, geology, language, history, social sciences) strategies. The problem-based subjects is where I am currently struggling. Thanks for all that you do!!!

perfect mind map, simple to do but with alot information. On your notes you don't need to rewrite what is in the books but using main topics and keys to link them, just like you did with the kidney picture and their diseases through the path, but ofc u must hard study the subject. I don't know if there's a "universal" map for everyone but i personally like yours, with drawing, this way make super easy to understand and visualize

For anyone interested, check out memory markers and the loci method. It's incredibly similar to using drawings as a main source of information sorting, but instead of actually drawing it, you visualize it. Over time, visualizing it ends up being faster than drawing a moon faced camel, and can even be more expressive if you're not a picasso! Regardless, the use of visuals is key! Our brain stores info visual info better than linguistics. Great video!

In the beginning I was struggling to understand chemistry but after doing some research (watching KZbin videos, including this channel) I've been doing mind mapping and holy crud it makes a difference. I finally understand the concepts more compared to when I first started doing the notes. I still need a bit of practice with how much time I spend and not writing definitions but I really do feel I can go on trhough the rest of the semester of my chemistry, especially since I need a full term classes for my scholarship. It was also hard for me since I was online and not in person. I would really like tothank ya'll for your content, which has helped me a lot. The only thing is how to teach myself the problems 🤔.

This was awesome. I tried using mind maps to study last semester and it was really effective but not time efficient at all to create or review, so as I got into heavier material I stopped. I think I was held back by thinking it had to look like a traditional mind map with one word in the middle connected to other words connected to more words. This method seems much easier/freeing to create and review I’m excited to practice it this summer to where I can really take advantage of it next semester

First Cornell note taking to get the key information while hearing. Then, that evening (spaced repetition) pull out the key concepts (and preferably share them with someone,) A week later (spaced repetition) imagine and draw out a simple mind, as you describe. A month later recreate the map and important facts and terms (recall and spaced repetition) and check. Thanks, I think that helped me understand how to put mind maps in an efficient learning structure.

Excellent video! I'm always happy to find instructive and effective explanations like this (and the editing is awesome)! One thing I do have a problem with is applying this to, say, PhD research within the humanities. Currently, I'm trying to broaden my understanding of aestheticism within literary theory. I really struggle to turn that information into mind maps. I'm not sure if this is because I'm trying to do too much at once (using key terms and outlining seems effective!) or what, but any sort of guidance would be so helpful!

@@soumilgupta4655 yes and archer newton, their videos are good but theyre a little too vague, idk if it's on purpose to make the viewer buy their course in order to know the details

Exactly, I did not fully understand what's meant by relationships so I found this video very helpful. But still the vision is not very clear , could anyone help me to find where they learnt from or it's also paid 🤔

I am actually in their course, and while yes it may partially be because they want you to buy the course, I would say it’s also because proper mind mapping technique is WAY more nuanced than what is taught here, though it is a good start.

Nicely done. A very good video demonstrating a method of applying mind mapping. Good topic used as an example to visualize the learning. Thanks.

Wow I really love this ideas. I have trouble sticking to the big picture, usually I get caught up with all the little details. I will give it a try over the weekend and see if my notetaking and revision will improve. Thanks for the great tutorial!
