I’ve tried this, it’s difficult to get a fire going in the drum as there’s no air coming in from the bottom. Now every few months I empty 5l of brick acid to the drum and top up with water. Leave over night and it’s like new 👍

A smashed double glazed window unit and 5L brick acid. Mines a petrol, tape a bin lid over the hole to stop it splashing then shove off down the pub. It stops when it runs out. Also, I tip the contents into the barrow and it cleans that a bit as well. Then the lot goes into a bucket until next time.

What about getting it really hot and then chucking a bucket of cold water over it so it shrinks the metal quickly? I know that it could possibly make the metal crack but maybe worth ago if you don't mind risking it. Enjoy your holiday 👍

Next time I’ll do a another version but there were many neighbours about watching me and the smoke so kepted it down a bit 👍🏴

I think the reason it doesn't work is that concrete has almost the same thermal expansion coefficient as steel. This is the reason steel is used in concrete to reinforce as it expands at a very similar rate. Maybe rapid cooling of just the drum might work. Interesting video though and pizza oven looks great.

Rapid cooling weakens things, making a very hot fire and then dashing water on it quickly makes it contract then the mortar should come off easier

That sounds like the next route to go down thx 👍🏴

@@tidybrickslandscaping I know this because my wife made me make her a pasta bake in the oven and when the glass tray was taken out and emptied of its content I ran it under cold water to clean it, well It shattered into many peices and I was in the doghouse for months!!

You were on the right track, get fire going but you need blower to get him proper hot with drum ON ITS SIDE then when very hot pour 20 cold water on outside of drum quickly, this rapidly shrinks the drum and that, is what cracks the cement off.

Sounds like the way I wanted to do it but I was getting complaints from the neighbours with the smoke so I ended it quicker than what I wanted 👍🏴

Just put water and 40 mm to dust in and leave it a while mixing, tbf if you did thT after heating the drum ibet it would work great!

It will pop it but it may take a while … cement concrete will explode if overheated that’s why we have fire brick and cement ,, fun video 👍🏽

I think adding water when hot would cause differential expansion between the metal and the cement, so may work better than waiting for it to cool down. I have also tried a couple of broken granite sets for abrasion which has worked for me, as do bits of indian sandstone which has a similar scouring effect and has the advantage because it is thin of cleaning under the mixing fins, rather than tumbling as bricks tend to. I have not tried brick acid but cement is calcium carbonate so should dissolve the cement, bubbling off CO2 The glass idea is also good as the glass is harder than cement, plus the sharp angular edges would scour the drum. Porcelain tiles (broken) are hard thin and angular so would work well, athough I have not tried it.

Thank you for your input Alistair yes there’s many ways to clean mixer drums I’m just trying to think of a way of doing it which isn’t too noisy will try other methods some good ideas from you much appreciated 👍🏴

before I finish watching I am going to guess it doesn't help that much. Concrete is used in small home furnaces and seldom cracks even at very high smelting heat. Now lets see how the video goes 😁 Next test, set it up put a load of iron balls in it and turn it on. bet that grinds it all off :D
