I’ve never commented on a KZbin video before, but I just had to say that you by far have the best music production tutorials on the internet and you are deserving of far more recognition. You’re genuinely helpful and have gotten me closer to my goals. Super cool how how freely you’re sharing your knowledge and experience. Sending friends to your videos and music.

your vids are insane man ive said it before, by far the most concise, in depth and helpful i've found online. When you offer mixing and mastering services would you include a video of your approach to the process/would you do it live on discord or something?

No sorry I wouldn’t do a video on it that would take too much time and distract me from actually mixing. But I could give feedback on how to make your mix better after

That was exceptional. Thank you for this video. Very methodical and pretty straightforward. Do you do any mid/side EQing? If so any tips on when you would implement it? Also how long would you say it takes you, personally, to mix down a track after the overall structure and composition is finished? Just curious. Thanks again!!

Hey Big Z, Something I've been wondering when it comes to mixing. Do you use Eqing on any of your tracks? I do in my productions, however I can't seem to figure out how to get down a proper spread of my instruments. It almost seems though as if the processing in the instruments is not at it's best quality. I see you do use Fab Filter, which is something I also have. Which instruments and or layers do you normally apply equing to? Your main melodies? Your percussion I.E. claps, snares, hi hats? Your baselines? And how do you (if at all) spread them throughout the sound spectrum?

your mix sounds better bro,,, great tutorial!!! But I tell you when the kick is all the way turned down everything else sounds nice and smooth so they are not too muddy and overpowering.... such as chords .. Would love to see a tutorial on that! thank you
@brassiesounds88092 ай бұрын
I thought I would share a great tip with everybody! What I have recently been doing is going through the whole frequency spectrum and doing at least 3 different tracks (saving a project for each version). Then what I’ll do is compare the 3 different versions and see which one sounds the best. Hope this helps a lot of people!

YO BIG Z; I'm curious about Magic AB, but it is no longer available at samplemagic's site. All the info pages are up for it, but there are no download links. etc. I guess they discontinued it? I searched for half an hour and couldn't find it anywhere. Is there a new similar product?? Keep up the great work, love your calm demeanor. I get so agitated when I produce music (computer interface is agitating to me, ie keyboard/trackpad). ...

I know a lot of EDM producers will actually cut off the higher end (>7khz) to make room for all the white noise type elements. Learned this from a Jauz tutorial

Hey everyone, just thought I would share my mixing technique. First of all have about 3 reference tracks in mind, then go through the frequency spectrum on each track and reduce the eq to 25% on all eqs. Only eq the kick solo and have another eq for the other sounds. I found this technique really polishes up my mixes. Hopefully this helps you because I know mixing can be a pain

Hi Big Z, I was wondering, does the fact that the reference track has already been mastered cause any issues? Wouldn't comparing loudness of an unmastered track to a mastered one not be a good comparison?
@Raelon4 жыл бұрын
For the same reason at the start of the video, he made sure that the loudness of both the tracks, his track and the reference track, is same. 2:42

@jamiebrown61945 жыл бұрын
Superb tutorial! Thanks Big Z. Quick question.. do you have your master plugins turned on when doing this?
@BigZMusic5 жыл бұрын
I usually just have a little bit of compression on while I mix
@jamiebrown61945 жыл бұрын
@@BigZMusicSo you're getting the volumes the same knowing you'll bring the overall level down to say -4db of headroom and let the master limiter bring it back up again?

Can u do a video about Rms and use of rms
@Rolanoid5 жыл бұрын
On my studio monitors your track sounded better than the reference even before you started mixing.
@LUCKYKATmeowsic3 жыл бұрын
I'm a little confused. I always heard to set the faders at 0 and then use a Utility plugin to make the volume changes. If you change the fader for that section of the song, you might be clipping more for another section. Or did I misunderstand it? Also, why replicate someone else's sound instead of striving to create your own sound? Nice tip about the frequency referencing btw.
@trashbag15984 жыл бұрын
your track is fire did you release it?
@joaquinreed3 жыл бұрын
@Big Z, Since they discontinued sample magic AB - do you use an alternative plug-in?
@caseypoon80385 жыл бұрын
do you already have some sort of master chain (limiter/compressors?) before you start this process? I think the reference track is already mastered so how do you compare the volume levels with an unmastered track?
@ravirana20014 жыл бұрын
I guess by lowering the volume of masterd track. Not sure .

Nice tip for mixing! But I’ve a question: why does the track is around 20 of Rms, isn’t too low? I know that the overall of rms in edm in general is -6/-5 rms
