I remember relaying Mother 3 a few years ago and accidentally doing this because I mashed through some dialog and completely forgot where the chimera lab was, so after much wandering around I found Saturn village and Duster. I soon realized that I had done things out of order so I intentionally went through and did everything I could before the chimera lab and getting Kumatora. That playthrough was a lot of fun

I ended up doing this by accident and locked myself into the volcano route very under leveled and was really close to quitting. I remembered grinding for like 2-3 hours at the start of the volcano, really glad I never gave up though since it’s still my favorite rpg

What's kinda funny is that not only did I know about this, but every time I play mother 3, I try to play chapter 7 a bit differently each time to see what's different and to see if I can make it harder. Great video by the way. More people need to know that you can do this.

Have done this already after finishing the game once, people normally don't get Duster early in Chapter 7 because fighting the Pigmask Major in Saturn Valley is a real pain in the ass to do with only 2 party members. Same with Tanetane Island, the difficulty skyrockets if you choose to go out of order.

I remember recruiting Duster in chapter 7 first during my recent playthrough of Mother 3. I never knew this was hardly documented.

I feel like my first playthrough I did something similar to this. I had Duster and Kumatora on the mountain and figured that was just the way I was meant to play the game. My next couple playthroughs I did in a different order to challenge myself with the mountain boss as a Lucas and Boney only fight. Its cool that this is finally documented though. I'm glad its not just a quirk that went overlooked by people like me.

I remember that I did this once in my 3rd playthrough and I think that you can go save kumatora after saving Duster. You just have to move the rocks in the volcano and then you can go to the chimera lab.

I am genuinely surprised this wasn't well known! Thank you for making this video so the non-linear aspect of Chapter 7 can be more known, it's a really neat aspect of the game (Especially with some things when it comes to Tanetane Island, but doing it with less team members sounds like torture)

On my 2nd or 3rd playthrough I think I freed duster after getting Kumatora and then went to the mole cricket maze with a full party. I never did the Lucas & Boney island adventure though

Great that more people know about this!, and how are these details not in the Wikipedia??? As my favorite character I always save duster first even if I have to walk all the way up to Mr Saturn Valley and use the Mr Saturn table later, (Or the opposite of that), Duster the goat can save your party in a lot of moments (also, super bombs are peak with him equipping them), and I say it for real, my man is just the main support of the team in most parts of the game, dealing big damage and having more Hp than any other character, AND- HE HAS A BROKEN LEG- HOW BADASS IS THAT!?- YOU MAKE MORE DAMAGE AND FIGHT WITH YOUR LEGS EVEN IF ONE OF THEM IT'S DAMAGED- OMG- HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE THIS MAN? 🐐🙏🔥💜

There's a few videos about the freedom of choice in chapter 7 though. Thane Gaming has one dedicated to going to Tanetane Island first.

I do believe I've seen a video talking about what happens if you go to Tanetane Island first, or if you go there without Kumatora and/or Duster. This facet of the openness might have been mentioned in the video, but my guess as to why there aren't videos talking about it much is because of how minor it is. I love that the game lets you do it and accounts for it in all the cutscenes, though.

I actually did a semi Duster% route in my first blind playthrough bacuse i found the saturn table and just vibed with it!! i died to the volcano section so i moved to the chimera lab lmao! I love this game so much :)

I wanted to say that I _did_ know about all of this stuff and talked about at least some of it in my LP of the game, but I only knew it because I read it somewhere. ...I don't actually remember where, but the info must have been out there somewhere, though it's surprising to me that it wasn't on the wiki of all places.

MonkeyNess did mention this freedom of chapter 7 in his Mother 3 Bonus Video, at around 17:10-ish, he mentions Boney's dialogue in Tanetane Island that is originally meant to be for Kumatora, including GGfan beating The Barrier Trio with just Lucas and Boney. He doesn't mention stuff about Duster tho

I learned that you can do the needles out of order while trying to complete the battle memory. So turns out if you do them out of order you never fight the squeekz. So I kinda ruined that play through
