I was the Leaf sales person for a major dealer when the car was first released in Australia. I remain a huge fan of the Leaf and congratulate you on resolving it's only design fault, which is the lack of thermal management. I hope your vision is well rewarded in the years ahead.

I’m pretty sure you’re in the NW USA? There are a bunch of shops there. Maybe you need to all get together and buy a whole container of packs to lower the shipping costs. You probably can get a container a week and keep up with demand.

@@nissanleafbattery Close. BC, Canada. A shipping container full of battery’s would definitely help reduce shipping cost. We know a few of the shops just south of us. The problem is definitely supply. We get emails almost daily asking about battery replacement.

I've wondered it it wouldn't be easier to drill two holes in the top of the battery compartment, fill the entire compartment with high voltage dielectric coolant, then use the holes (via hoses), to pump the coolant in and out of the compartment the heat exchangers up front. Tap into the existing coolant loop (the one used for the 3-phase inverter and charger), drain the existing coolant from the existing coolant loop and re-fill the entire system with the dielectric coolant.

As a Yank I’m not sure if “GoodOnYa!” is an appropriate expression to extend to Kiwis or if calling you Kiwis is offensive, but GoodOnYa Kiwis! I mean this in the most earnest way possible because this is what the world needs now. I’ve been impressed by your engineering skill in developing the products that have been on offer through EVs Enhanced before now and thought you were easily capable of achieving something like this. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and have been interested to see the startup Ample come in this year with a battery swap solution for Leaf Fleet owners. Your solution will hopefully save many more of the 160,000 Leafs sold in the US from winding up on the scrap heap prematurely. Used models here are selling for approximately double what they were in late 2019 despite having very limited range.

Cost-competitive with...no batteries at all? Sounds like a non-starter to me, amigo. There's a guy on "Faceplant" market trying to sell a salvaged 62kWh battery for US$20K, which is only $7K less than I paid for my 2011 Leaf-SL with CHAdeMO *new.* At 68% SOH, I'm looking for new battery options since Nissan just told me they won't sell me a replacement. But I still have a reliable 60-mile range, which works just fine, thank you.

My biggest concern has been that the car would outlast the battery and in 5-6 years time the battery might degrade to the point I'd have to start being careful with my regular trips, which would be a pain. Its very exciting to hear the announcement for an aftermarket battery given they are not readily available now, it addresses basically the only downside to the leaf from my perspective.

This is Awesome news! I've been waiting for this! Active Thermal as well as LFP - basically all my LEAF prayers answered. So does the "16-blade" moniker infer that you are using BYD Blade batteries? Or is that a coincidence? What's the estimated range/charge capacity of the Green pack? Or is that still being worked out? And Red pack for dual-motors? Are you installing an additional motor with that pack? Would be hilarious to see a LEAF pull up at a drag meet and silence all the sniggering spectators >_< Also, a much larger pack like this would mean that the 3.6kW charger no longer cuts the mustard. Would you also upgrade the onboard charger to 7kW or 11kW? Maybe even 22kW like the Zoe? The alternative I suppose is to install a bi-directional Chademo home charger but those are still not approved yet in Australia and are super pricey - almost half the cost of what I paid for my LEAF. Now the big question. Will this be available in Australia? If I have to, I'll buy a 2nd hand LEAF in NZ, get this done and ship it over the ditch but would be great if you can get partners over here who can perform the upgrade.
@malcolmstreet1

Excellent point about the onboard charger, although I think (I'm pretty new to BEVs) this only applies to JDM ones - the Oz/UK ones are c. 6.6 IIRC. Re. the red pack, dunno how you'd fit a second motor under the bonnet. Are they planning some sort of powered rear axle?

Our 2013 Leaf, bought in 2015, has been excellent for around town. A higher range would extend its utility to around the region. In 8 years all that has been done is: charge it, fill tires with air, and replace windshield wiper blades. Since we have owned it it has only been charged at home on 120v 15 amp circuit with the EVSE provided originally by Nissan. It still has 11 out of 12 bars on the battery state of health display. I live in the Seattle area. There is a shop on Bainbridge Island, EV Works, that specializes in upgrading or replacing Leaf batteries with used batteries. Depending on cost, of course, I would be interested in a new upgraded battery pack. I suspect supply of batteries is a huge constraint to EV Works' business. I look forward to you releasing your new product.

Hello. Thank you all for the feedback in the comments below. This is very motivating for our team who are working hard on this project. There are lots of questions in here as well as on other platforms all over the web. Rather than replying to all of these questions here and creating a long chain of Q&A for those who are interested to pick through, we have picked out a bunch of common questions and answered these in another video that can be found at kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHytaKd7rNhoo9E for those who are interested.

Would it be possible to swap the 40kwh with one of yours? I have read the 62kwh leaf has stiffer suspension and has a slightly higher rideheight. Also would it be possible to add CCS? Because sadly I see chademo chargers slowly disappearing here in north-west Europe. 22kw ac charging would also be good enough for me when I go on longer journeys. You guys are true heroes. While my soh is still fine it's good to know people are working to keep our beloved leafs on the road.

@@rdeb1210 many people have installed 62’s in all older LEAFs. There are many videos here on KZbin.

Magnifica iniciativa.

looks like a great plan. I love my LEAF, and while my 40 KWH battery is still in excellent health, I like knowing that there may be an LFP option in the future. What is the capacity of the Green variant?

Another video, link found in their description, indicated 40 kWH.

Absolutely brilliant. Had my Leaf almost 4 years and hope to keep it for ever. Now perhaps I can. Eagerly awaiting pricing and other details.

Note that the env200 pack is a slightly different shape, but no reason it couldn't be done. Might not have the economy of scale though.

There are over 150,000 leaf owners in the US that would welcome more range, faster charging and more power. Please make the US market happen sooner than later.

Good work, gentlemen. Our Leaf was a leap of faith 13 years ago, but it’s still going strong! Nissan R&D should be lauded for producing an affordable EV.

Agreed. We have a lot of respect for Nissan's engineers. Just not so much for some of the decisions made by their management.

Amazing! Awesome news - I would say, the most important EV news of the year! I don't think you mentioned the capacity of the green variant in the video. What are you aiming for? Can't wait until the EU launch...
