And it's this year I have begun hearing about more shops in Lithuania starting to replace old Nissan Leaf Batteries with larger capacity ones. I wouldn't be surprised if the ability and popularity to do so comes thanks to your (and others from the forum) open sourcing efforts. Awesome work.

While these cellswaps might be tempting, only go for >50kWh ones. The smaller ones are not safe, they overload the cheap chinese cells capabilities. I will make a dedicated video on why these cell-upgrades are problematic later.

Seeing content like this gives me hope for my ability to continue driving an EV, since anything better than a leaf costs far more than I can reasonably afford. Between CATL batteries, the CCS adaptation projects, and work on hacking the BMS, I'm getting reviewed hope that maybe I should continue driving a leaf, getting progressively more hacked to suit my needs. I desperately need a car that can travel minimum 120 miles without paying what a new car would cost

@@gutserker too bad what Dala abandoned a CCS upgrade for a leaf after adapters got released. I do battery upgrades in Los Angeles and can get you 200+ miles battery if it's in your budget. Leaf is an awesome car with not so great battery packs.

A further adaptation to CCS is a waste of time! There are other charge plugs that take over the world and should be adapted. In North America everybody is switching to NACS. In Asia, South America and Africa the chinese GB/T plug is expanding rapidly.

Only a small percentage will be available for the secondhand market, however there will be an increasing amount of perfectly fine 24 and 30 kWh Nissans that need a mid life upgrade I think.. How cool would it be to buy an upgrade kit to twice the capacity?

I did that by working with EEPROM. Only ze0 can reset bars, evenything else will reset and functionality and regen, but not bars. I also have some experience with custom flashed LBCs for different capacity, different discharge curves and even added functionality, such as heating the battery pack.

I have not had a chance to get an OBD adapter yet but I will order one tonight. I have about 6 bars and I get a maximum of 36 miles shown but I have never tried to get that. Starts flashing at 6 miles remaining. EV warning light stays on but it drives really nice. Fun car. I can not wait for summer time. If I could add some range and drive it from one town to another instead of just this city that would be amazing.

I've heard that Nissan will be going broke within a year and a Japanese company could be talking them over or investing in them. I sure hope that Nissan survives, they are a good company but have not recuperated in the last few years. Thank Dala for keeping the hardware working! 👍💪✌️

I think Nissan is at least telling the truth about their situation. All the Japanese manufacturers are in trouble due to poor performance in China. Just look at Subaru sales in China. On 30,000 sold in the 1st half. Suzuki already gave up.

To get into China was only possible with tight contracts, maybe tesla has the best deal since the state, afaik, is not involved. Guess he has persuasive techniques... The German had harder times I believe, VW in particular seems to be hurting badly. Was giving Bugatti away to Rimac a sign? But doing business in China isn't easy today, the have overtaken many segments already.

Nissan at least tried to make an almost full EV platform around the same time as Tesla. Most legacy car makers still don't have actual dedicated EV platforms. And even the ones who do, it is only the car which is dedicated, but the factories are not, hence you end up with cars that are still a mix. No wonder...

Плюс добавление штатной функции подогрева, хорошо когда этим всем управляет оригинальное устройство а не кучка ардуиноподобных залепух. И мне даже из Москвы отправлять не хочется блок, плюс интерес есть разобраться или посмотреть как кто то разберется и повторить.

@@Maximspec Да, тут я согласен. Я сам вообще в Лос Анжелес. Если до войны ещё что-то более менее работало, то сейчас вообще сложно что-то привезти увезти в РФ. Если бы Николай шил бы дистанционно я бы чаще рассматривал его варианты, т.к. мне о нём по сути думать не нужно, оплатил и получил. Мосты Романа очень гибкие и могут делать то, что не может делать никакая прошивка. У меня, например на зе1 стоит батка от азео и работает как штатная вообще без каких либо проблем. Опять же, допки с доп LBC на прошивке не работают так хорошо, как на трёх канальном мосту. Прошивка может быть опцией в некоторых случаях, но я её в серьёз не рассматриваю. Цена имхо слишком высокая в том числе. За те же деньги я лучше предпочту отдельное устройство с отличным функционалом и оставить весь софт во всех блоках оригинальный. Прошивка Николая навсегда оставит блок только с его по. Откатить обратно можно, но это опять же нужно слать, ждать и слать обратно. Проще блок целиком заменить и не парить себе голову.

Wow! I have a surplus 30kWh battery (via a crashed Leaf, where I wanted the motor stack). The battery shows 75% SOH, so I assumed I would be selling as ‘powerwall’ rather than for a vehicle. But sounds as though a vehicle is now an option. Is there a way to guesstimate what proportion of capacity is recovered based on the reported SOH? Is it a fixed proportion, or not linear? I was already watching the forum, so great to see this presented in video form. Great work!

If the software is glitched, you most likely would be at 30-40% SOH. Ao most likely your battery is OK, just degraded. Sorry!

This might also be needed sooner, rather than later, i read online that Nissan was in financial distress and about to go bankrupt. This would be bad for Nissan owners. Have been looking for the longest time for a Nissan, they are generally cheaper than other EV's on the used car sales market, due to Nissan's silly "worst of both worlds" approach to charging 1 phase charging = 3.6KW max here, even though we have 3 phases, and ChaDeMo that has been dead or dying for years If the price of the Chademo to CCS2 adaptor came down in price and someone made a "faceplace" so that it could be incorporated into the existing spot where Chademo and Type2 lives today, it might be worth buying and retrofitting it into a "cheap" leaf.

Great news! With higher capacity batteries now available for older Leaf vehicles, can they be available for Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) or Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) for power to the home?

The V2G/L/H charger is a much harder piece of the puzzle, as opposed to vehicle regulation, you need to have a charger that is compatible with local electrical code.

@@jerther_ it depends on many factors. If you wanna buy a leaf, you need to fully charge it and drive it until turtle appears and then quick charge it till full without any heat/AC running to know a true capacity.

I'm not sure the 30 kWh BMS campaign has the correct settings either. My battery is showing signs of extreme degradation, 32 Hx, but still has 68% SoH (9 bars) and therefore was never covered under a warranty replacement. I think the 'true' SoH mapping is somewhere in between. I did notice that Hx is completely linear to SoH, something no one else has mentioned elsewhere.

Great work as usual; but although I was looking at an old Leaf 2-3 years ago, I decided it was to low for my damaged back, and went with the higher seating position of the early Kia Soul EV; do you know of anyone doing similar work on those old EVs?? My battery is still in great health, but it would be nice to have more range - and the Mk2 Soul EV battery is a completely different format; so that option is out.

Same in the UK, as I understand it, only around 1,000 of the Mk1 Soul EV were sold in the UK, although I am not sure if that was the combined 27 and 30KWh versions, or just the very first 27KWh version. Interestingly, like the Leaf, the 2nd - larger battery option has proven to suffer far more issues and degradation, than the smaller original.

So, I have a 2017 30KwH leaf with around 20% degradation. How can I check if the Bms has been updated or is affected by the miscalculation glitch? Nissan told me that they aren’t going to update the bms because the update procedure may brick it and, if that happens, the replacement cost will be on my pocket. Do the app perform a check on the Bms or it simply reset the data? Thanks to Dala and everyone who knows the answer!

You can see if you have the affected software version with Leafspy Pro, scan ECU versions. 4A was updated to 4C, 6A to 6B. If it's on the original A firmware it loses track of the actual capacity

This is yet another evidence of how electric car manufacturers deceive their customers. After a few years of use, they intentionally reduce the usable capacity of the battery. This drastically decreases the range, pushing owners to buy a new electric car. In many cases, however, these owners choose not to buy another electric car because they feel cheated. And despite the 8-year warranty on the battery, when the owner complains that the car can only travel half the distance on the same charge, their warranty claim is rejected by the dealers (and the manufacturer). This happens because they perform a test that shows the battery is still at 93-95% capacity, which they argue is not grounds for a warranty replacement. As a result, the customer is left with an unusable electric car that they can only sell or trade in for a new one if they are lucky. Let’s not forget what Apple did with the battery software on iPhones! It wasn’t until someone won a lawsuit that Apple was forced to end the lies about battery capacity. Or let’s recall the lies manufacturers told about diesel car emissions.
