When I returned to Louisville in 2010, the owner of a small liquor store told me that "brown spirits are dead. Gin,too. All anybody wants are vodka and tequila." Then the Bourbon boom hit. For the last couple weeks, all the news in Kentucky has been about how the Bourbon industry is collapsing. And there is persuasive evidence of that. Glad you're around for new ideas!
@Orr_sКүн бұрын
Literally all i drink for hard liquor has always been whiskey of various types idk why. Idk how it happened but i dont care for anything else at all much, i cant stand Tequila and its a trendy thing now i feel like. It tastes horrible except for some high end Repisado’s or Enejo’s. Started with Jack, went to Jameson, then Crown Royale. Now im into all sorts of diff Rye’s and Scotch and whatever im in the mood for. Old fashions are my fave or a nice highland Dalmore scotch neat. And im not that old, 33 currently. So its just a timeless sort of thing
@nickkatherina18 сағат бұрын
@@Orr_sI used to be only into tiki and fruity flavored drinks.. I never wanted to get into whiskey. I got into finance, and the more I got into the industry I noticed most of my colleagues and a lot of my clients are whiskey people.. clearly I didn’t see the allure, so I decided to try and help get myself into it by trying it over and over. Now it is practically all I drink. I’m a bourbon guy usually, but have love for mostly all whiskeys.

The story I heard about Wisconsin Old-Fashioned (brandy) was that it was a result of all the Badgers who visited the Chicago World’s Fair 1893 and tasted the American Brandy exhibit’s featured drink, an Old-Fashioned using American Brandy, as a way to promote their product. It was a hit with the crowd from WI who already had a familiarity with Brandy and took the idea home. Not sure how much truth there is to the story, but good one to tell when visiting a supper club for fish fry with visiting friends who come for a stay at our cabin up by Rhinelander.
@mightytom17 сағат бұрын
That’s pretty close to the story I heard, which included the notion that they weren’t making brandy old fashioneds at the start of the fair, but switched to Korbel when they ran out of whiskey.

Years ago, when I was bartending, I put a drink on my list, made in a similar way to the Sazerac. It's called a Dirty Sanchez. Use 1.5oz of Reposado tequila, 1/4 oz of chocolate liqueur, 1/4 oz of Agave syrup, 4 dashes of orange bitters. Stir with ice and strain into a chilled lowball that has been washed with Cointreau Mescal would give a smokier flavour and could also be made with a regal stir using orange peel.

My bartender mentor (RIP) taught me anything can be made into an old fashioned and it's nice to see this brought to life here. My Oaxacan OF I make with a split base of tequila and mezcal because I like more smoke. But I also use a split base of aztec chocolate bitters and angostura. Haven't made a gin OF yet but I have four types of Oregon made Old Tom gins so I'm excited to try that. Thanks for the video and legitimizing the various types of bitters and liquor for the OF.
