I really think it's a matter of perspective and what you are looking for in the series, this sentiment is really clear with the divide between how people feel about skypeia (personally I love this arc). Plus there is a big difference in perspective with how certain people consume one piece, whether it be anime, or manga, filler, no filler etc... I agree with Garnt, not on his rankings I would swap a lot of stuff, but i agree with the idea that there is no bad arc in one piece and the lowest quality arc is mediocre at worst. Generally speaking, I feel that people perceive some arcs as bad because they are comparing them to some of the best arcs that not just the series but the genre has to offer. The more mediocre arcs of one piece all have purpose in some way in them and add to the greater plot of the series, even with what you consider shit there is so much that is good about those arcs. I won't go listing them off because this reply is getting longer than intended, but unlike those who over hype you are several downplaying the good in those arcs. Hence why I say the worst one piece arcs are mediocre at worst. Like seriously compare arcs/ stories from novels, other manga and comics and when you compare these arcs to truly shit/bad stories I think you'd be pleasantly surprised by the arcs you consider shit.

I think Usopp vs Perona in Thriller Bark is a vastly underrated battle in One Piece history. It is such a great duel. It does a good job of elevating this arc.

okay, saying Zou has no big moments deserves a massive callout, because it had a strong moment that was the first time One Piece has left me literally speechless since Ace and Whitebeard died. You see Jack attack the Minks because he suspects they are hiding a Samurai, You see him fighting them relentlessly for days, then using poisoned gas, torturing the weakened Minks, cutting their limbs off, basically commiting genocide on them, while asking where the samurai is hiding. Yet all they say is there is no samurai hiding here, and he can torture and ask them all he wants but they can't give him what they don't have. To the point where I was like "come on Jack you fucking asshole, it is obvious that there is no samurai on this island!" - and then it is revealed that they were in fact hiding a samurai all the time. Just seing how far these people would go to protect a single friend was extremely powerful.

I still dont know how ppl were that surprised by the Raizo is alive moment. Like, yeah it was cool, but for me was pretty expected. Idk, during the arc there was never a moment where i was doubting much if Raizo was in Zou or not. It was weird for me that Oda would give it so much importance to say at the end "Raizo is not really here Lol"

Personally loved Dressrosa cause it was so long, Doffy is one of the best villains in the series, the fights are so damn fun, Fujitora is introduced to add humanity to the admirals, Sabo get reintroduced and it establishes Luffy as a major player in the world with the Grand Fleet and taking down arguably the strongest warlord crew. Reverie enjoyment varies depending on when you read it. As someone who caught up to the manga around the beginning of the raid on Big Mom, those weeks of Reverie felt like you were edging from chapter 903 and only bust a nut at the end of chapter 909 with Zoro heralding in the beginning of Wano I was my first weekly post arc wrap up and damn did it leave an impression. S tier, third fav arc just for experience and enjoyment

Dressrosa, Zou, and Whole Cake are incredible arcs with amazing moments which suffer from abysmal pacing, at least in the anime. They get to the point of being almost unbearable at times, so Garnt's view is really fair there

Started one piece like 3-4 months ago and I’m on episode 1001 and I can say that I love one piece with everything. I gonna take a little break because I don’t wanna catch up just yet. All I can say is that I’m so happy I decided to watch one piece have 2 years of talking shit and putting it off because it’s “too long” I was feeling burnt out from anime even if they were good. I felt like something was missing and decided eh might as well give one piece a shot and it was honestly what I was looking for. It filled the void that needed to filled. It feels like the time when I watched Naruto for the first time 2 years ago and how after I finished it I felt empty and sad. One piece is my favorite anime now and luffy is one of my favorite mc’s if not my favorite. ONE PIECE TRULY IS A MASTERPIECE THANK YOU ODA!!!

I actually had to stop the anime and just read the rest of skypiea because of how boring it was to watch. Not sure but isn’t the Katakuri fight episodes long. I disagree and I have read that arc all at once. Side characters are mostly uninteristing (and there are too many), I don't like Sabo's return and it's just the typical template for an One Piece arc. Pacing also isn't really good, even in the manga. Despite the pell moment and the plot armor Luffy got in Alabasta, I thought Alabasta was just a better paced version of Dressrosa with a superior core, Vivi (Vivi > Rebecca).

Skypea was a bit of a slow and drag arc. That being said, the anime significantly worsen it. Like in the manga it was slow but not offensively slow. The anime's pacing for Skypea was down right bad. From my own personal experience, the anime do tainted my experience with Skypea. After reading the manga, it significantly improve my opinion about it. That said, I still prefer Jaya over Skypea but not by much.

It all went downhill during Punk Hazard. It got really bad in Dressrosa i had to drop anime altogether. But you can still enjoy a more filtered version with One Pace instead.

I'm actually quite happy I watched One Piece dubbed - because the German dub is freaking amazing. Also I was 9 years old, little me was a fan from hour 1 as far as German tv showcase goes. I was so hype for this story from the first episode on, and it only got better from there. One can argue that the anime has it's stretches, but seing the peak moments animated makes it worth the grind for me.

the sole reason I decide to pickup One Piece last year was to watch Alabasta Arc as a whole. It starts to get interesting from there onwards. Then Water 7, Enies Lobby, Impel Down, Marine Ford and Dressrosa these arcs is what makes me keep going. Had to stop at the end of Dressrosa before Zou since binging it takes alot of time. I watched a filler-less version of Skypeia and it improves immensely. My favorite arc overall. It has a sense of adventure that the other arcs don't, and it's way less formulaic. Eneru's charisma and arrogance makes him one of the most entertaining villains. Rather than cool fights, most of the cool moments come from characters desperately trying to survive or give the others fighting chance. The flashback gives depth to the world and works as a compelling standalone story in its own right.

One year later, I've been re-reading One Piece after watching the awesome Netflix adaptation. Wano is the only arc to make me feel like it's done irreperable harm to the series. The Strawhats hypocritically participate in slavery (Otama) without the fact even being addressed, and Luffy's classic rubber fruit gets retconned in favor of chosen-one god-powers. These kinds of extreme pain-points, for me, can't be balanced by any number of hype moments. I think Wano is the #1 worst arc in One Piece. I unironically even prefer Long Ring -- at least the idea of the island-hopping nomads was interesting, the changing water levels were a fun setup for Aqua Laguna, and Kuzan got his intro. Its worst sin was Foxy being annoying.

They made stand alone movies of just those 2 arcs. 31:50 The epilogues are some of the best parts for me. And how they wrapped up all the loose ends from water 7/enies lobby make is my favorite arc. 59:30 Agreed that one piece gets good from baratie. I think its because it was the first internal conflict with nami leaving, and leads into arlong arc. 1:16:30 Thriller bark was tough. It felt like it dragged, but there was a bunch of top tier moments. I think it was just because of how great enies lobby was that the immediate arc after just felt weaker. 1:27:00 You didnt even mention the part with the sanji look alike (duval). But yeah pre-time-skip sabaody was stacked. 1:30:00 agreed with your impel down rating. it's hurt by being just before the crazy marineford arc (like how thriller bark got overshadowed by enies lobby). 1:44:00 same comment, just overshadowed by marineford. 1:56:40 the only big disagreement I have. there was a huge moment here that leads into the wano arc where they reveal the samurai. Still think it falls into high B tier though since it was mostly a setup arc 2:05:00 reverie was too short for me. it was mostly an info dump/post-arc with not much happening. just a lot of foreshadowing 2:06:00 your wano rating might be recency bias, but i feel like i need to reread it when it actually finishes. It feels like it's starting to drag, but it might just be because of the pace of the manga is getting released. I can't give my fair rating until it finished, but right now i put it at low S-high A

Another reason is in many fight luffy has his comeback and it kinda make sense somehow, but the fight against kaido was too much plot armor for me. I just want this arc to end already.

Wano is a top 3 arc to me because not only is Gigguk right in that it's great as a self-contained arc, it's also like Marineford a culmination arc of almost the entire Post-Timeskip era of One Piece at the same time (Punk Hazard - Wano is literally one continuous story arc). People have Wano-fatigue right now because it's long but my god is it masterfully crafted.

I just started watching One Piece recently. I just finished the Alabasta arc and I liked it overall, but there was some stuff that really bothered me. 1.) All the death fake outs they had really made the arc less impactful. Koza (who’s a regular guy) gets shot, they act like he’s super badly hurt, then he leads a whole rebellion. Next, when he’s trying to stop the rebellion he gets shot like 6 more times! It’s all super dramatic and yet he’s fine. Bird fella get shot out the sky, then takes that bomb at point blank range. They tried to make it emotional and then HE’S PERFECTLY FINE. It makes the whole bomb feel useless! That shit couldn’t kill a guy at point blank range, so they were really never in that much danger lmao. 2.) I liked Vivi at first, but she annoyed me towards the end of the arc. There was a point where she tripped, fell, and started crying like 30 different times in 1 episode. 3.) All the underling bad guys were way too goofy to care about or take seriously! You got flamboyant ballerina, fat mentally challenged man with a baseball bat, ugly mole, explosive booger man, etc. They are all pretty trash. Luckily, the main cast in OP is pretty solid. As far as new characters Crocodile pretty much carried the arc on his back.

Your new to one piece but overtime you will get used to it’s goofy ness, it’s apart of one piece. A lot of the villains crews are goofy so get used to it and embrace it, it won’t have tons of edgy cool dudes. And yes oda tends to not kill any characters unless very important to the story, which gets annoying at times.

You also gotta realize the average human in OP is not like the average human in real life. Usopp is able to take a 10 ton bat to the face and able to still move. Also the goofyness is what make the serious parts hit 4x harder as the contrast gives a more sense of urgency. Also you are watching the anime so expect there to have pacing issues as the problems you came across is not big in the manga.

The show also heavily implies he’s dead. Nami’s mom got folded tf up by Arlong’s glock. The problem is even worse with the bird guy. They talked about how the bomb was going to kill everybody including them if they didn’t find it probably 800 times while looking for it. Then Falco from Star Fox takes a MW2 nuke straight to the chin and is still living his best life. That’s just bad writing imo. What was the point of the bomb in the first place? Why even look for it? Koza’s ass probably could’ve tanked it even after getting mag dumped like 50 Cent. 🤣

I agree with Garnt's take on Impel Down, it's a great arc but I too would have placed it at A tier, same reason. The only changes I would make on this list are Punk Hazard ( A ), Skypiea (A), Dressrosa (S), Whole Cake (A) and Sabaody (A). This is just my opinion.

Coming from an anime only perspective, the drawn out nature of arcs actually really kills them for me, and all the time skip anime arcs have let me down more than they've hyped me up and given me feels. I rank all of them lower than what you gave them because the long long ass fights and long time it takes for plot to move forward makes them unbearable, and since the early arcs aren't like this? they end up winning by default in my mind. I really need to read the whole manga and I bet I'll change my mind about all of them. The only exception to this is any episode directed by Megumi Ishitani

I started the OP anime in 2019 and have been slowly making my way through. Just starting Fishman island, Marineford was good but a bit slow to begin with, Buggy with his crew of pirates and Bon Clay were so much fun. Have been told the pacing gets even slower but I'll just keep binging an arc or two every year (english dub is still on Dressrosa so may even catch up), but looking forward to the New World. Skypeia and Enies Lobby are my favourite arcs so far.

I agree with garnt, oda is really good using his mistake for plot which is great I think oda make shanks threatened the sea king to make him badass as a character, but readers keep asking him how is that even possible... and then he created conqueror haki instead

Eh, the mistake is about his hand, not the threatening the sea king part. As Shanks is introduced as a badass who doesn't care about weak enemy right before that scene. And not long after that Oda reveals that Shanks was Mihawk spar partner.
