see, the season 3s and 4s are more likely to have higher scores because those are more likely to be viewed by actual fans of the anime overall, as opposed to casual watchers just checking out the 1st season, thinking it was alright, and moving on

I mean you are mostly correct, but you have people whom rates an sequel 1 out 10 just to drag down the score because they hate the whole show without even having watched it (or partly). You also have anime that got unfairly rated early on due to fillers (which can be skipped today), drama at the time, etc. Because a show was around during the early construction of Mal it has built up so much votes its impossible to change the score in one way or another (no retrospective). You have also shows that have their adaption rated very high mainly because the manga is rated very high too despite the adaption has tons of issues, etc.

@@WieldMyWord If you read the little blurb on MAL where it tells you how they rank the shows, users who have not watched 1/5 of the show when it finishes airing will not have their score registered, new accounts younger than a certain time are also ignored, so it does remove a good amount of review bombs.

You are correct, but only under the assumption that sequels have the same or higher quality than its previous season I call it 'Sequel Inflation' Sometimes when a sequel clearly isnt as good as previous seasons though, thats when the rule doesnt apply
