Sada and Turo (the real ones) are definitely the villains of Scarlet and Violet, they made the Time Machine which caused more Paradox Pokémon to flood into area zero, they programmed the Paradise protection protocol which straight up tried to murder us, and it’s definitely more the real professors speaking through the AI when you have that first round battle when the master ball drops into the AI’s hand. Among the things that makes the twist work so well, is that they fit well with one of the themes of Scarlet and Violet, which is Passion. Think about it, the goal of the treasure hunt is about finding your passion. Most of the gym leaders have some sort of artistic passion. But with it comes the cautionary tale… take it too far and passion becomes obsession… and the professor took it too far From their significant other leaving them, to the creation of the AI, to the key being inside the scarlet/violet book, to not caring about the harm the Paradoxes will do to Paldea itself, the various security measures taken to ensure the Time Machine stays running as intended, even attempting to kill the player and their friends to get them out of the way. It’s like the professor says at the start of the battle… “At… at last… At last my dream is within reach… and you’re not getting in the way!!” Passion becomes Obsession, and Obsession becomes your sole focus, consequences be damned, as long as the goal is reached.

One thing I like about Team Aqua and Team Magma is how they have the same idea but different cultural context. Archie is in charge of a group of pirates who revere Kyogre as the lord of the sea bring more water for their crew to explore, while Maxie is a charge of a cult who worship Groundon as this entity meant to bring more land
