Also I want to point out, another common reason why your model all black is because it might be in another langue MMD can't recognize. I had this issue when I was trying to use Dan Heng and he was in Chinese. So changing the name helped.

Your tutorial is very good. Was able to follow everything you said. Only problem I'm having is for some reason My characters eyebrows/eyelashes Glow when the character is blinking/angry or closing eyes? And when I zoom in there are black boxes all over the character and at a certain spot of the slider it turns all green. How would I fix this? I know by mistake when i followed your video i put a setting that i seen you do. And am unable to reset it. it was for the glow for the headband. But my character doesn't have that feature. I believe the effect was called material albedo fx. I looked for it but could not find it. Pls help lol it looks really bad.

If that's the case, it means MMD can't read where your ray.x folder is located. Put your ray-mmd on your desktop or downloads folder, restart your pc, open your MMD and try again from the start

Yeah its okay not to change the model skin and also you can experiment what materials you want to use. I just demonstrate how to use the materials so beginner's have idea how to use them. This is what I often use but I change material textures depending on the model or the stage the model is paired with.

My recommendation is to play around with the settings! Of the ray controller to see what fits best with your stage also to of the shadow of the model is to dark I recommend to get rid of main.fx on the model (not the stage)

I've been using MMD for about 5 years now and I was using Ray cast at one-point last year to finally give my projects that extra wow effect with it but then I stopped making animations for a few months and when I came back, I forgot how to use it. This tutorial was very easy to follow. I've actually downloaded it to one of my SD cards, so I always have it if something happens to it on youtube. I was wondering if you could do a more recent tutorial for the semi-standard bone plugin. I used to have that working but now I always get a weird error message whenever I try to add the missing bones and re-installing it from scratch might help. There used to be a video for that on youtube that I followed but they deleted it.

There could be a lot of reasons: 1. Your model's texture is corrupted when you extracted it using a file extractor that doesn't support other languages like japanese or chinese. Try to use a file extractor that supports those languages or install japanese/chinese language packs in your windows OS. 2. Sometimes you just need to change the name of your model from chinese to english. 3. Your screen resolution setting in MMD might be small or in vertical resolution. Change the screen size to 1920x1080 and try again. 4. Sometimes ray-mmd just don't work properly especially when the order of loading of assets isn't right. Start from scratch again. 5. Change the location of your ray-mmd to the same folder of your mmd or in desktop. 6. It could also be that ray-mmd isn't compatible with your pc. Change the version of your ray-mmd to a lower version like 1.5.1. 7. Sometimes, your model has issues. Use the same model and stage and finish the whole tutorial before experimenting using other models. 8. You can also just turn off then turn on(restart) your pc

Followed every step in this vid how do I remove the gray face? I followed every step the body has the right skin color but the face has that grayish color it's like the one on your vid at 9:11 but mine is darker. I just want the skin tone on the face the same as the model's body.

If that's the case, use the same material that you used in the body which is in the Human Folder. You can experiment using different materials in the skin folder until you find what you really like to use. Same with other parts, its a good way to be familiarized by playing around what's inside the Materials Folder

hmmm usually the face is much brighter than the body. What happens if you just put material_2.0.fx?

I see maybe its the model itself. What I can suggest is you need to modify the texture to fit that model. instead of assigning material_2.0.fx, Go to Materials -> Editor -> Skin -> material_skin__1.fx. Then, go to model manipulation and load Materials -> Editor -> Skin -> material_skin_1.pmx which is where you can alter the values. After loading, material_skin_1.pmx, adjust the values in the face manipulation until the face lightens up. I usually smoothen the skin or put emissive property a little to make it the face brighter(like for example adding Emisive Red, Blue and Green to 0.2)

For the MMD version, you need to use the latest version just to be sure it can work well with Ray-MMD since 1.5.2 is it's latest version. If you don't want to setup raymmd again after this, you can just save an MMD file with Ray-MMD already setup then later when you want to use Ray-MMD, you just open that save file that you made. That's what I do. I have a template so I don't have to setup Ray-MMD every time and I'll just load a different model and stage

Hi, I saw your video yesterday and I found it very nice, but I'm having a problem opening the ray.x file because I get an error ''Failed to load effect file: MMD/ray_mmd_1.5.2/ray.fx''. This usually happens when MMD can't find the path/location of the ray-mmd folder. Close MMD, put the ray-mmd folder in a different folder like Desktop or Downloads folder then try again. Do this until you find a folder location that does not get this error.

Its going to be bright at first when you applied skylighting. You need to adjust it by using the ray_controller. Also, did you use the same model and stage while doing the tutorial?

Do i need extra light sources under roof? I tried making the skin brighter, like no-roof, but it doesn't work and if the model has dark skin the skin controller only makes it darker and the other controlers only make it paler. I aplied materials and played with skin and ray controller and skybox controller 😭

You use the Editor folder in the material map tab and change the values until the skin brightens. There's a comment in this video having the same problem about a genshin impact model getting more darker.

No but you don't have to do this every time if you save a file with Ray-MMD already setup using this tutorial. Next time you need to use Ray-MMD, you'll just open that file and just load the model and stage since you already setup raymmd. It's like having a ready template that you can use again and again

When you see model turning white, it usually means that the model can't read its own texture and is usually not related to ray-mmd. This usually happens when you downloaded a model which is in a different language(Chinese or Japanese) then when you extract the file, the file extractor(for example winrar) corrupts the naming of the texture so the model can't recognize the texture anymore. You can try to use a different file extractor that supports that language or you can install in your pc/laptop that language so you can extract it. For example, others use a different file extractor and it works but as for me, I still use winrar but I have japanese language installed on my pc. Hope that helps

Afaik Its use for post processing so when you export your video, it eliminates some noise that can make the video blur. I tried using it and I see no big difference with the quality of the video I exported. There are two ways to apply it. One is by loading a .x file and another one is changing the config of raymmd

Its been a long time I forgot how I solved the password. As far as I can remember, there is a document inside the model's folder when you download it and I know a little Japanese so I read the part where the password was stated so I used that as a password to extract the zip file. You can use google translate and paste the words there if you don't know how to read Japanese

the file extractor you are using does not support japanese and corrupted the file names that's why the texture aren't showing because it can't identify which texture it needs anymore. To solve this, you either install japanese language to your pc's system locale then download the model again, or use a different file extractor that supports japanese like b a n d i z i p

Depends on the skybox you are using. You can decide what goes first for Sky Hemisphere skyox but for Time of day and Time of Night Skyboxes, its best to load your model and stage last to avoid problems.

Its the file extractor that you are using. Some file extractor when it extracts zip files that is in Japanese, changes its name and that cause the textutre's name assigned to the model to have a different name so your model turned white because it doesn't recognized the texture since its name was changed. Try to use a different extractor. This is a problem that was solved by one of my subscribers in the comments section. Can't do that. I have to respect the creators request that you can't use it if you can't crack the password. I've scanned it before and there's no file deletion after that. If it deletes then you can just redownload it. You can ask the creator of the model on twitter if you need clarification.

You can do it with just using raymmd. You just have to play with the ray_controller until you get the desired result. For example, you don't need to load HgSSAO for ambient occlusion, there's a slider in ray controller for that

Its etiher: 1. Your model's textures are corrupted because the file extractor that you used don't support Japanese language. Use a different file extractor or install Japanese to your pc 2.
