Watching you perform live at your young age brings back a flood of wonderful memories. I've been a performing musician for 44 years. I currently play in two 3 piece classic rock cover bands. I've also put together a 3 hour solo acoustic show I'll start booking very soon. Before these projects, I played for 12 years in a Bluegrass Gospel group. I learned how to sing harmony in that group and twice enjoyed the experience of recording a studio album. I also learned to carry and successfully operate my own sound system after beating the roads for 26 years in a Country Rock band where we had our own sound tech, then hired out sound and lights. In Bluegrass, we used a variation of the single mic approach used so effectively by so many great groups. Instead of 1 mic, I used 2 large diaphragm condenser mics. I employed a dedicated 31 band graphic EQ for each mic to "ring out" feedback frequencies from room to room. It was the ultimate performing experience as we moved closer to the mic for solos and vocals and backed off for accompaniment. And no monitors were needed because we were close enough to hear each other well plus we could hear sound from the front speakers too. I highly recommend that approach if you ever have the opportunity. You mentioned having sound problems and poor monitor sound at this show. Meaning no disrespect toward your sound provider, I noticed that your mic and others were poorly positioned to eliminate monitor feedback, limiting the volume level available to you. Also, your banjo mic was a Shure SM58 vocal mic. An excellent mic, but the Shure SM57, like the mandolin mic, is the better choice for an instrument mic. But you have to use what is available sometimes. There a number of good pickup systems currently available for banjo if you're ever interested in that approach. The ramblings of an old man from across the country likely seem ancient to you, but, believe me, the years of our lives pass quickly. Sometimes it seems like it was just yesterday when I was where you are now in my musical journey. You seem to be keenly interested in growing in your ability level and in learning your instrument. That is good. You also seem to be quite comfortable on the stage. I encourage you and wish you the best! I hope you achieve success as you define it.

It's great seeing a bunch of young people playing music together. I was in a band back in the 1970's. We played a different style but was always fun getting together and working out new tunes. Thanks for sharing.
