Red prairie dawn! This went a lot better than I thought it would! Listening back, I'm a lot more accurate/on key than I thought I was going to be especially with all those hammer-ons. Still a long way to go, of course, but not bad! Let me know what you think about switching the strings. On the one hand, I'm curious about how it would sound, but on the other hand, I'm pretty happy with how it sounds as-is.

DAMHIK...nylon strings dont work on fretless! Also, fretless is about feel and expression rather than note accuracy. You get peoples feet a-tappin and happiness happens. You are not a concert violinist giving an over rehearsed recital. You are Dr Phoebe giving out your daily dose of banjo, and you have 21.6k patients who are in thrall and travelling with you on this wonderful journey into the mediaverse. You ace it on banjo. You ace it on chickens. You ace it on nodding drinking birds. You ace it on hats. Most of all, you ace it on putting a smile on the face of everyone seeing your vids. Phoebe, you bring joy into people's lives...a rare and precious gift that we all appreciate.

NEVER give the audience the "oops, I messed up" look. Ever see a cat trip, slip or otherwise take a spill? They immediately give off that cool air of "Hey... I meant to do that !". The more you watch a blues man play guitar, the more you realize there's no such thing as a "bad note"... they're all just colorful musings that give the song character.

What a fun fretless Friday! Nylgut strings sound very special. They are best on very lightly built instruments. For a woodtop banjo having a fixed (ukulele type) bridge enhances the unique character of Nylgut. The nut also needs to be modified for Nylgut or Nylon strings as the gauges are very different.

Your slides are definitely getting more precise! I can almost hear your ear yelling at your fingers... "almost... almost.... STOP! " You are hitting your mark much, much more often, and at a much greater rate of speed, as well! You must be practicing in the dark! It sure helps with muscle memory :) I don't know that the nylon strings would work very well with the wooden top. Nylon on a gourd instrument with a skin top would sound really good. Congratulations on finishing Finals. My daughter finished hers this week :)

Congrats on getting past your finals. Your fretless technique is improving by leaps and bounds. I really enjoying watching you play, especially when I see your hands go into “auto pilot” mode and you start to look around, then focus again when the pattern changes. Always fun to spend a sunny afternoon with you in your lovely garden with your friends. Try all the different strings you want - they don’t last forever, anyway. Nice hat!

Absolutely try the Nylgut strings. I've used them on several of my older banjos and have never been disappointed. Love tuning in to your sweet little face. Tom in Idaho I'm getting a 100 year old plus 5 string from eBay this week -ish. Nylgut strings are going on it for sure. God bless, stay sweet! P.S. the Nylgut strings will be easier on the fingerboard also. Peace.😊

In the end, when I want to experiment with aone of my instruments and need to change some stuff on it in the course, I always wait for the moment when I think I've done enough with the old setting. You will feel the point when you really sense the inner move to remove the old strings and try something new. The idea might stick around for weeks until it finally hits you. I wish you continuous joy and fun playing!

The steel strings will be louder than Nylon, or nylgut, I suggest a different medium to lights or vice versa .steel strings it will keep the volume up on such a heavy head as the wooden one. As usual I loved ❤❤❤your choice of back drop the rock wall and the beautiful florals. Yes the chickens were content to stay in the back light for the most part making it was a well balanced ensemble. Awesome Fretless Friday I feel enlightened. Frail on.

I have an old "camp banjo" which is a fretless banjo with a wood top and I have (red) nylgut strings on it. I like the sound, it's less "punchy" than steel, but my biggest concern was this banjo doesn't have a truss rod and I was worried about warping the (80-ish) year old neck. It took a bit of playing to get used to the feel of the strings as well, especially the 5th string, it has more "bounce" than steel which actually makes clawhammer more fun for me. Keep up the good work, your fretless Fridays are a bright spot in the week!

Couldn’t hear a lawn mower ! Loves the hat ! As far as strings maybe you should try Nile gut and if you aren’t completely sold then go back ! The nut and saddle slots might need to be a tiny bit wider for the Nile gut and if so bring it to me at the Folk Music Center, yes the old bearded luthier , bring the strings too because we’re out of the nylgut most of the time !!❤
