I just got through the part where you had to redo the Crystal. I’m so glad you did not give up but I understand that pain. I was 3D modeling faces for a 3D character, 12 hours of my best work, and somehow I didn’t save a new file once that entire time, just kept saving the same file, then Maya crashed and corrupted the file. You’ll never forget this moment but thank you so much for not giving up. You’re an incredible artist.

I did this exact thing with oil spoil foils in a diorama. The moment the sealant touched the foiled areas it got crunchy. So when you said you sealed it i audibly gasped. To say you fixed the oops is an understatement. We would have no idea it ever happened if you hadnt showed us! Your perseverance is insane ma'am. Exquisite work as always ❤️

If I recall correctly nail foils (or their glue) can be finicky and need a special topcoat. Water based if I remember correctly. Strange that your test worked perfect and the intended subject reacted. Loved the thinking outside the box!

the sealant eating the holo foils was so painful 🥲 But i guess that is part of pioneering new techniques. Honestly it is absolutely wild to me how you keep track of every different piece and where they connect to what and which color each part is supposed to be. Your mind map of a kit while youre working on it must be absolutely insane. So worth it, it turned out amazing in the end. also you are i think the only 3D Modeler I watch so I didn't realize it is a male-dominated hobby. I sat down with my lunch and pulled up youtube, intending to watch 15 minutes of something and go back to my game. Hey just watched the transfer foil part of the video. As a crafty and nail girly I can give you a tip to use a sticky uv resin or base coat. The foil will stick to it and you can go over it with another coat of resin or a top coat. Love your videos and hopefully this can help in the future!

Girl, you never fail to amaze me with these works. The amount of love and care and personality you gave each and every piece: Foils! Glitter! Holo paint! Sparkle paint! The gradient on the clear pieces in the back! It turned out stunning. I will say, I'm glad I passed on this Wanzi piece myself. I wanted it SO BAD, but I'm very much a novice at kits, and I think this kit would have had me in a meltdown if it had you frustrated. Your face when you see the base light up! Precious! GreenStuffWorld has some Holographic Paint, but it is not clear form what I can see, I wonder if it could be used if thinned? Also, can confirm that UV resin does not eat nail foil (at least not mine). Did that for a while to pretty up some charms. Works best on flat surfaces as well. I put a thin layer of resin onto the charm, lay the foil on top and slightly rub everything even, so that no air bubbles are under the foil. after a little curing you can peel off the foil and seal again with UV resin. I stopped doing that to my charms because it was annoying, but I think for small parts on kits it's still a nice way.

Leona you knocked it out of the stratosphere with this one!!! the opening bit? fantastic, absolutely had me chuckling. As a fellow holo disciple, I half guessed it was nail foils, hehe. I wanted to weep for you when the sealant had a bad reaction. I've experienced the same issue with sealant crackling one color of paint but not the other in the same brand, sealed at the same time in the same conditions. Sometimes it just happens and you're totally allowed to rage and cry about it the whole time you're picking up the pieces and fixing it. I love that you aim to constantly improve and achieve the greatest results possible no matter how painful it is. It makes me itch to pick up my own supplies and make something beautiful too!

I know that aerosol sprays contain other ingredients that evaporate quickly and leave behind just the sealer. If you used a spray, perhaps the reason the test worked is size. It was a quick spray and therefore had less ingredients that could mix, it and when you used the full size one it would have more time and amounts to mix together. Now obviously that uses only works if you used a spray sealer. I imagine that a brushed on one, like a brush on varnish or even clear top coat intended for nails might have worked. Just some thoughts for if you wanna try this again and maybe do some tests to come up with a works every time version.
