@@HOBOTECH Generark having computer chip issues right now. I've had a solar generator on back order since the first of November. So their 'ships in 2 to 3 days' isn't accurate. They told me it will be January before they send it. Obviously, I wanted a back up available before then, but it is what it is.

I have an acopower 50 l fridge. I am not sure when I bought it. Maybe two years ago. It has the 173 removable battery. I bought it for two reasons. First it was the only freezer/fridge with an actual compressor on wheels so it was easily transportable. Second, I live in Texas and have a 1.5 hour drive to a large town where I do my grocery shopping. Mind you this is Texas in the summer. 100°+ days, who know how hot my car interior is. Before I got this fridge I had to go early and speed shop and get home before the ice in the cooler melted. I did not dare buy meat or anything frozen. Now, I can take my time, buy ice cream or anything frozen and not have to worry. There was a learning curve about which part of the fridge stays coldest as your test suggests, but once I figured that out no problems at all. This acopower absolutely changed everything for me here in Texas. I use it when I have parties outside to keep beverages and food cold. I supplement my two other refrigerators when I have larger events coming up and need more fridge space. If and when it dies I will not hesitate to buy another.

I've owned the original ACOPower LiONCooler for about 9 months. I'm always boondocking, usually in Arizona or New Mexico in the high desert. Most of the time the outside temp is about 94+F. I run it all day on solar while also charging the older cube-shaped battery. It would from 5 pm until 6 am the next morning on ECO. That's pretty impressive since my RV retains the daytime heat. There were a few mornings when I wasn't sure it was going to make it until 6 am and plugged it into my LiFEPo4 battery just to be sure. One of the best investments I've made for my RV boondocking. My RV fridge simply can not keep the food cool enough on 94+ days.

I have the X50A Pro model from their last indigogo campaign. It does cool down fast, yes, but that doesn’t seem to translate well to keeping things cold or rather cooling them down. Here is my experience so far. - empty, the freeze setting only gets to 7°F, not the -4°F I set it to - added a case of water bottles (28), lowest temp on display 14°F but usually shows around 23°F. It’s still set at -4°F …no improvement 24 hours later - some bottles freeze (mostly), others don’t. Best result is frozen slushy. - Ambient temperature is 72°F, indoors. Using AC outlet for power. Unit in MAX mode entire time. I want to use it mostly as a freezer for extended hot weather camping. If it has a hard time freezing water bottles, that doesn’t give me confidence it will freeze fresh meat from the supermarket at a reasonable rate. Adding a fan for interior air circulation might help speed up the cooling process and make it more uniform. So I will try that out in a few days. I’m also wondering if placing the cooler in a insulated box with openings for the compressor fan will increase efficiency and freezing performance. So far I can say, it’s a great fridge. The freezer I can only recommend for previously frozen items for 3-5 day trips. Don’t expect to make ice cubes. Anyone have performance improvement tips? Real life experience with freezing food?
@Carlos-jh5tb
@Carlos-jh5tb 4 ай бұрын
I’ve never used it to freeze food. I have an actual freezer for that in the form of an iceco.the iceco doesn’t work without a mess of cables and batteries. So they suck ass for actual camping. (You look like a nerd bringing a cooler with extension cords and battery packs camping) But I’ve taken frozen food with it and it kept it frozen. I’ve also pre frozen water bottles to stabilize the temp across every area and extend the batteries. If you want to actually freeze stuff iceco makes better options.

Thanks Hobotech. Their first LIONCooler was actually their second generation solar powered, lithium battery-operated 12 volt compressor fridge/freezer. I have their first generation model and it's still running great! It looks about the same as the current model but the battery is a lot smaller and is not removable. I bought it in early 2019 along with their folding 120 watt solar panel and a 400wh power station. I just wanted to share this so folks know these products hold up really well and last!
@Carlos-jh5tb
@Carlos-jh5tb 4 ай бұрын
I was able to extend a single battery to 3 days by being strategic. I packed it with food and drinks but made sure the meat was frozen still. The meat slowly thawed safely like it would in a fridge but it kept my beer very cold. The fridge had to work very little. It also helped that I plugged it into my vehicle while driving to my campsite. So when arriving it was at 100% still. If you used ice in a cooler you would lose ice just in transit. On other trips in hot climates I was able to extend a single battery for even longer with a solar panel. A single 100w panel maintained the battery for 5 days. And I never needed the spare.
@lazyplumber1616

I believe the bottom is not as cold as the sides is because the Freon tubing does not run in the bottom only the sides. I would recommend putting something to keep meat off the bottom so it does not get to warm

I have the smaller model and oh boy does it work like a champ. We drove from Michigan to Texas to see my Grandma. The only downside was we didn't have a lot of storage space so we threw the foods that we really need to keep cool. We didn't have any problems but I wish we would have had wheels. Cause getting it in and out of the hotel was a hassle.

Using this Fridge every day while out on the trails. So far I'm getting nearly a weeks worth of usage out of this firdge in winter clmate before having to charge the battery with how I use it in SoCal. Loaded up my Fridge and pre-chilled it through my outlet @ 15 degrees overnight. Afterwords loaded everything up and off I wen't for 2 weeks. I kept the temp at 35 Degrees. During the day it would rarely drop below 35 Degrees and kick on the cooler, at night I just shut the unit off and power it back on during the day. it took a week of this type of usage for the battery to drop below 20% before I solar charged it back up. Now of course I'm sure during Summer this will be different. But so far for my winter adventures this thing is more than awesome

I have the last model and it's great. I can bring it to the lake full of ice cream and run it off solar all day. It'll take up to 50V/A input so I hook it to 2x100W panels. If the sun goes behind a cloud the two panels are usually still able to produce enough to keep charging the battery.

I am very glad it freezes, because then you can freeze bottles of water to store energy as ice, (with food on top) which you can then put into your utility powered fridge to cut your electricity consumption if you have power to spare, otherwise they would keep things cold when the sun is not shining. No need for a battery!..

Not sure why my comment was removed. I guess it didn't fit the paid endorsement deal. It was a longish post that I won't repeat in it's entirety. Basically my post was if you can't get this Kickstarter deal wait for this new fridge to hit the supply chain and buy the previous model on discontinued close out. There isn't enough new and improved on this new model to warrant it's purchase over a good deal on the original which works perfectly.

I have never purchased a product, in such a matter,, backing support. I'm not understanding the rules. It states that they will not reimburse regardless of outcome. Does that mean I will lose my money if they don't reach the amount of buyers? Please explain, thank you

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in, but I can share my experience of participating in 2 previous kickstarters... in both cases, I received the product exactly as advertised (albeit significantly delayed from the estimated shipping date, but I did receive exactly what I paid for) and those products are now on the market at around the same price as I paid. The prices might have gone up when they first hit the market but have leveled out, presumably as production costs declined (mass production versus the prototypes). I haven't decided whether to back this fridge yet, because I already have an Iceco dual zone that I'm pretty happy with, but I'd feel comfortable joining this kickstarter and expecting the product to be delivered as advertised. The prices might indeed go up after it hits the market, but keep in mind there will be occasional sales/promotions and prices might fluctuate with supply & demand and manufacturing costs. My point here is that if you're uncomfortable backing the product early on, there might still be opportunities in the future to find a good deal on it. The point of becoming an early backer, in my opinion, is to actually help bring the product to market. With the other 2 kickstarters I joined, I'm not sure those products would even be available for purchase today if their kickstarters hadn't been successful.

First, you need to trust the company you are investing in. In this case, ACOPower which has been around quite a while and has been successful in selling solar fridges for years. They would lose their company if they decided to take your money and run! The disclaimer states you won't get your money back if the company decides to not produce the product after a successful funding (so you can't sue Kickstarter). This rarely happens but it does happen. In most of those cases you still get your money back if you file a claim with your credit card company. ACOPower has already got the funding for this so they will produce it. Otherwise, I wouldn't have a finished product in my hands.

How well is this 'fridge insulated? My old ARB would keep things frozen, rising only two degrees, while unplugged overnight in my car.

Does the battery click lock into place or is it just a slide in? I'm wondering if any movement would (ie. while driving) could displace the power contact points in the back.

i have a similar unit that isnt battery powered and it was from costco but the same external design. I think ill back this.I have the 50l and it is too big so ill get the 40l. we have the ARB 34l also and that is nice. The 50l is too big for all but a fullsize truck. we cant open the lid in our SUV. The battery and solar panel will be nice with the wheels for beech and baseball games and such

With limited space in the fridge, why would you store 2 loaves of bread in there? Bread is dry goods and would be better stored in a plastic tote, leaving room in the fridge for water or perishables. Nice unit having battery power! Thank you for this video of the ultimate solar powered fridge by ACOPower LiONCooler Pro 12v refrigerator freezer.

I think people are familiar with a loaf of bread as a volume illustrating how big it is inside, not a suggestion of what to refrigerate.
@HOBOTECH
@HOBOTECH 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I was just using that reference to suggest volume. However, when I boondock I sometimes do refrigerate my bread if I won't be going to the store for 2 weeks.

The kickstarter page says this 'fridge provides an ice-free, always dry, cooling experience. My dual zone ARB produced a fair amount of condensation. Did you notice much condensation when you did the 12-hr. freezing experiment? Would there be less condensation during freezing temperatures vs. refrigerator temperatures? I'm contemplating whether to grab this deal, live with only the freezer option, or buy a dual zone later and pay a lot more.

All 12v fridges condensate when the humidity and dewpoint is high. I have never seen this in Arizona but our humidity only goes over 50% during the warm summer monsoons.
