I think it is better to have someone starting out giving their opinion than me doing so. It is easy to forget what we felt or thought we had to have when we started painting minis. 😀

Have to admit, after just over 50 years in the mini painting hobby, I've gone back to buying artist acrylic paints/inks, as they are MUCH cheaper than model paints, and mixing them together always results in something fun and exciting :-) I make my own washes/glazes, "contrast" paints and more, just mixing ink/paint with artists matte medium & flow enabler, saving me a fortune in paint sets, which means I have more money to spend on buying minis. Today I learned my beautiful/awesome girlfriend has bought me a resin printer for an early birthday treat, so hopefully soon I'll be making minis for myself too, saving even more money along the way :-D I LOVE how your wife has reviewed each set here, with no bias whatsoever, which is exactly what many new mini painters as well as experienced ones needed. There are just too many "patreon" inspired reviews of products online now, with bias proving so de-motivating for people who have to buy these sets afterwards, while channel hosts get them sent free just to boost the brand name and their viewing figures. Totally behind what your wonderful wife has done here, and would love to see her do more of her honest reviews of figures/paints in future :-D

Imma show her this and hopefully convince her to get to do more honest reviews. She doesn't have the baggage nor biases I do have, and she knows exactly what she likes and what she doesn't. Thanks for sharing your experience! I have been trying all kinds of stuff over the years, always focusing on the cheap, hoping to strike gold and share it with the community, but 10 dollar paints are 10 dollar paints and they still give you some trouble when painting. I have another video of when I got stuck on quarintine and survived with very cheap paints, not sure if you saw that one too...?

@@rushthewash I only recently found your channel, so am having the time of my life watching your videos :-) I'd LOVE to see more of your wife's reviews, as she is truly unbiased, doesn't pull her punches, and doesn't stick to what she's received as a "gift" from Patreons/Sponsors. So please give her more air time, as she's a breath of fresh air after so many de-motivational videos I've sat through lately :-) I've a nice deal going with my local art supply shop now, as I'm a regular customer, spend a LOT of money when I go there, and so they give me a nice discount for doing so :-D I like both Liquitex and Daler-Rowney acrylic paints/inks, as they come in nice tubes/bottles, and have some beautiful colours, and the tiny amounts I need mean they'll last me for probably the rest of my life now, which is more than I can say for many of the expensive model paints I've bought over the years. Please keep up all the good work on your channel, and let your awesome wife have a go at some more reviews :-D

Good job María! Miguel, very cool idea for a video. It is interesting to see a review from a noob. I actually just purchased a starter set from army painter for my 12yo nephew. It comes with primer, 15 paints, 2 washes, 2 metallic paints, a brush, and a few minis. It is around 50€. We will see how it goes.

Army Painter is quite decent and has a very good quality/price ratio, probably one of the best out there. Glad you are getting people in the hobby! Gran trabajo!

When I found Jose Davids explanation video for the AK starter set by accident on KZbin I was super surprised that I never heard of this set. The colors are gorgeous and I learned a lot from his video. Since I only have the pastels and fluos from AK I am really thinking about trying either Joses Starter Set or even his Signature Set since I like his style and choice of colors a lot.

AK Interactive are some of the best paints I have ever used. Honestly, if I had had access to their range as a kid, I would probably have chosen them before any other brands.

@@rushthewash I started with Vallejo Game Color and got into the new range. The range is definitely smaller, but quality is extremely close. Its a shame that it has this bubble issue

@@rushthewash Their new range is qualitywise on par with AK 3rd Gen and Pro Acryl. The consistency is creamy, coverage and saturation are great and it has a matte finish. The issue I and many others have is that the paint builds bubbles when thinned with water or thinning medium. Normally you wouldnt mind, but the bubbles are still visible after drying, building texture. It can be avoided by working slowly, but having your mini ruined by this is a literal nightmare

Oh, wow. I had similar issues with applying artistic varnis with a brush, and I don't wish upon anyone except my worst enemies!

You need to mix flow improver into those tubed acrylic paints; but honestly, you'd have better luck with oil paints

@@rushthewash They're great for painting horses. You'll have some brush strokes, so you need to brush different areas in different directions based on which way the hair lays on a horse on different body parts
