people says futures/fusion fcs finboxes should be installed prior to glassing, however I see you doing it after, and then adding patches. I would say I prefer the way you do it, I am trying to learn, just reshaped an old wavestorm into a nice 5'4 moontail fish and I am trying to learn glassing techniques. Would you recommend installing finboxes after the glassing and adding another fiberglass patch or just do it before glassing? I feel is easier to not mess up by using the router after the bottom is glassed lol

I like to do it post glass when I do colour in my resin. It just makes it look cleaner. But you are correct in that it’s safer when glassed. Less chance of accidentally dinging your foam

I really like that kind of board design. Why are the fins so big? They might limit the speed potential by causing a bit too much drag?
@Shrednaught Жыл бұрын
It’s a mini Simmons. The whole design is based around a planing hull. The tail is so wide that without the amount of fin area I doubt it would hold and be super skatey. The tail block is wider than most boards are at their centre point 🤣

That's not a mini Simmons. That is a mini Joe Quigg. Simmons never made a board like that at any length, until he started copying Joe Quigg's boards to the T in 1950. Simmons was a sham, a kook, who yelled at everybody and pushed girls and kids off of their Joe Quigg boards, and told them to go in, because they weren't on an 11ft board that weighed over a hundred pounds.

Obviously you have skills ,but the CnC fins were the kicker …… Also I cut my templates out with a jig or hand saw then clean it up with the planer but the router if you don’t have to float and blend curves is the ticket ….. lastly stringer less boards are sweet . @Shrednaught2 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. Yeh in the right conditions it’s unbelievable. I had the eps hot wired with custom rocker in. You can get almost any block eps supplier to do this for you. The double stringer was more of a challenge for myself. It wasn’t really necessary for this board but I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out. The theory with the beveled bottom was all about making a wide board turn. It raises the rail rocker. The mini is pretty flat and straight so I was just trying to help initiate turns. 🤘

It will be functional yes. But I do advise to take the little bit of extra time to sand and finish properly. If you have gone through all the trouble to make a board you might as well finish it.🤙🤙
