Install and Review. In this Video I install a massive upgrade to Mike Glover's ( Founder of Fieldcraft Survival ) Yamaha T7. The Tractive Rear shock and Front Fork Cartridges are game changer for this motorcycle. This is the suspension it should have had from the factory.

That was the HARD way to install rear shock :) Installing from top is a piece of cake. Just remove rear mud flap, unbolt both top and bottom shock bolts and you are done.

I put the same suspension on mine but lowered it 20mm, so all the advatanges without increasing height or changing geometry. Handles like an off road monster. Tractive/Rally Raid are kickass and I agree. This should have been the stock suspension.

Taking the rear shock out is even easier than shown. Just did it today. No need to remove the linkage bolt. Just the two shock bolts and take out from the top. Quite some videos out there. So other than expected, not saying it doesn’t work, rather saying could have been even easier 🤟🏼 keep the great content coming!

I've only done front and rear springs on my t7 so far but the front fork internals didn't look too hard compared to reading the instructions on how to do it. I've done the tractive suspension upgrade on my old cb500x and wasn't too bad of an installation either. This was a good guide though for anyone mechanically inclined!

I found 10 compression clicks too harsh for my ride, bike did not soak up fast bumps, felt unbalanced so I opened compression on both ends and closed reobound a bit. I have also x-teme PRO +25mm travel setup.

Hey, great video, thanks! Do you know what the total ground clearance increase is with this setup?

It is a little bit of a trip seeing those fork internals. I'm used to the KYB SSS fork. What difference can you tell of having compression on one side and rebound on the other? Did you have any deflection on either wheel when going over sudden rocks?

What bark guards are those? They seem to clear that motology bracket well.

What spring rates do you use? And is it harsh at small bumps like typical mx stacked shocks/cartriges ?

Sent this to my nephew. He owns a T7. Kyle I think you posted something about this a while back. Did your wife have a BMW f 800 GS? If so, didn’t you lower it with the touratech kit? Did you have to change out the bottom linkage on the rear shock and what did it do to the geometry of the side stand? Sorry to change the subject.

No, I didn’t lower that bike. I kept it stock height

Hi, what Off-Road/Road percentage did you choose when setting up the suspensions?
@backcountryadvmoto
@backcountryadvmoto 7 ай бұрын
This bike spends most of the time off-road so I chose 60% off road 40% on road. You really just need to be honest with yourself and put down whatever you think you will actually be riding. They tune the suspension to exactly what you will be doing with it👍🏻

@@backcountryadvmoto nice to have two bikes 👍🏻 I can’t part with my gs but I’m seriously looking at a t 7 for its lightness and simplicity on local wintery rides here in the uk. I hope one day I can get over there and do some bdr

@@ownyourworld I agree, the GSA is so nice. But now and then a lighter bike would be nice in some of the gnarly stuff. I’ve considered getting a Husqvarna 701

You forgot to remove the label on the cartridges before you installed them.. It will come off and tear apart into small fractures getting into your valves screwing up your suspension. Just so you know..
@backcountryadvmoto
@backcountryadvmoto 6 ай бұрын
Thanks, but being a closed cartridge, it is completely sealed. There is no way that it could get into the cartridge even if it were to come off. The oil that is poured into the fork doesn’t even get in to the cartridge or valving.

@@danstevens2204 it’s a pro and a con to close cartridges. The nice thing is they are sealed and do not need as much maintenance. The bad news is when they do need maintenance. It’s usually something you can’t do yourself because a lot of times they are gas filled and unless you have the proper tools to do that, most people have to take them in to a suspension shop

@@backcountryadvmoto Ooh wait, I missed that part🙈 Mine were open cartridges, and I ran into that problem so that's why. Although it might still be a good thing to take them off, even with closed cartridges..
@backcountryadvmoto
@backcountryadvmoto 6 ай бұрын
@Gwiedert I agree, it could cause problems in an open cartridge,. It didn't even occur to me that they might come off. In this case it should be fine, but better safe than sorry. Thanks for noticing that and bringing it up.
